  • Researching my mother’s family tree I discovered I was descended from an Orr who farmed Risk Farm on the shore of Lochwinnoch. The Orrs were ‘Bonnet Lairds’, farmers that owned their land, and they had been Covanantors and thus for a period were persecuted for their religious beliefs. It is said that more Covenantors were persecuted than Jacobites in Scotland.. A part of Scotland’s dark history that isn't romantically told. When waiting in Stirling Castle to be tried the Orrs managed to get word out they were going to be transported abroad so monies were sent for their travels. This money was stolen by the soldier guards.
