As a North Ayrshire man I'm claiming hill of Stake as it's the boundary point between the counties. 😉
Landed up to my hip in a bog coming back down to the abandoned mine.

lol, I wonder if anyone may dispute that claim 😂 Yup, bogs galore!! Hope you had a good hike aside from that 😃

Misty law is a local mountain biking route i do. Usually go up the same way as you did, but then return down the path that branches off just before misty law itself, following the Maich water.
Keep considering trying to get across to Hill of Stake and the mine track the same way as you, but been putting it off. Doesnt look that bad to Hill of Stake in this video. Beyond that maybe more "interesting". Need to give it a go.
Views up there on a clear day are great, and always feels far more remote than you are.

The reports all talk about how boggy it can be - it was mostly fine when I did it, but there’s certainly points after Misty Law that were “moist”! It’ll very much depend on how dry it’s been.
And yeah, there’s basically no path to speak of between Stake and the mine, with a bunch of peat hags to negotiate on the way. I imagine it’d be pretty tough to cycle that! If you leave it for a dry summer spell it might be manageable…
I wish you good luck if you attempt it! 😃

Did you take your bike that way yet Xaltae? I’m coming from Greenock side so was going to try get to hill of stake from the mine on my bike.

@@JMac- Not done it with the bike yet. I have walked from near hill of stake to the mine with my dog, but it was years ago in misty wet weather. Was pretty boggy then.
I suspect there will be quite a bit of pushing/carrying involved between the mine and Hill of stake, but at least in dry weather it might not be toooo boggy.

@@Xaltae no worries, thanks for the info mate. Was planning to head up on monday. I’m used to carrying and pushing my bike, hopefully not too boggy so my feet are atleast dry for a change 😂

Great video! I attempted this with a friend a week before the initial lock down and terrible weather rolled in so we had to turn back just before the summit as we had the dog and up to our shins in water 😂. Definitely going to try this again when able to!

Thanks! It’s definitely worth it in good weather, although I think there’s always going to be some bogs. Think I got mostly lucky.

Good walk there Douglas. I have been surprised over the last few months just exactly what is on my doorstep. Its sometimes easier to get that feeling of remoteness than I had thought. Cheers for sharing. Paul.

Thanks Paul! Yeah, it’s amazing what you can find when you just look for it. What have you managed to find local to you?

@@HighlandHikersDouglas, the campsie's are just within striking distance for us so it's been Cort ma law, Earl's seat, dumgoyne, lecket hill and all the bogs you could ever ask for! Some days I have seen no one, other days it's been rammed busy! Looking forward to May, a month off work and hopefully some new places to explore. Cheers. Paul

A month off work sounds awesome! It recently occurred to us Alistair could head to the Campsies, so might see a video from there in the not too distant future 😃

Nice one Douglas, that's a fair trek for this time of year! Hill of Stake is my local Marilyn but only climbed it for the first time in 2019 from the opposite direction. Went up to the VC this time last year in a bid to climb all of Inverclyde's TUmps but still never got round to climbing Misty Law or seeing the mine.

Thanks Ian! My legs were definitely feeling it by the end - it’s been a good while since I’ve done a decent hike like that. It’s funny, a couple years ago I’d never have considered doing this walk, since it’s not a Munro. But I really enjoyed it and seeing the mine was cool! How are you getting on with the TUmps?

@@HighlandHikers Same here! I've only really been into hillwalking since 2016 when I discovered Walkhighlands so got introduced to all the weird lists all at once. Inverclyde TUmps recompleted after a recent wee addition of 'The Heddles' near Cornalees. Cant wait to see the trips you both get up to in a couple of months :)
