That was fun. I love the Will Rogers sayings, he was quite a man and his humor hit the nail on the head.
Yes it did and funny how his saying still ring true. Thank you for watching!
Thanks Rhett. That was really different & interesting. 😃🐘💝🎄.
It certainly is different. Thank you for watching Yvonne.

Good one Rhett!
I have lived here my entire life, and never heard of this place. Too cool,
Todd
It's always interesting to see who has heard of it. I think overall not too many have. Thank you for watching.
Good to have a sense of humor. This looks like a cool little place to visit.
It is a neat little stop and I loved the humor. Thank you for watching Carol!
That is pretty neat!! I always took that town for granite.
Haha! That's a good one Santee!
This was fun on a cool dreary day. Thanks

Good afternoon Carole! I'm having a great afternoon and I hope you are as well. Thank you for watching!
That was different really enjoyed it though. To have humor in your life 2 I'm glad you showed us this video it gives the lighter side of life
Yes it does and we all need a laugh every so often right? Thank you for watching Marlene!
Ha!!! That was very different. Funny
Yes it is. I really don't know of another like it but I'm sure there is somewhere. Thank you for watching Paul.
Yes crazy and loved the jokes. I feel those people wanted to celebrate their lives not mourne their deaths. Great video thanks.
Thank you for watching Sally! It's great to see them remembered.
Thank you for sharing
Very interesting.
I wanted to Thank you for your service
You're welcome and I appreciate you watching and commenting.
I have known Bill Willis family most of my life. My mother grew up with Bill. His company has done lot of the OK Historicial Markers all over the state. Also do one for the Olympic Festival. My sister worked for the festival and our family was at that dedication. Long maternal family history in Greer Co OK. Thank you for showing this satire type cemetery. Lot of interesting cemeteries in this county. Willis family is great. Hope you went over and visited with them. They have a store in Warr Acres (okc) and one in Stillwater. My dad was from Claremore and actually knew Wiley Post and Will Rogers. They flew into Claremore and my grandfather would host him for a meal then he would drive them up to the Rogers property in Oolagah. Dad was about 9 when they died.
I'll have a couple cemetery visits from the area but I would love to go back down there and see more. I did not know the history of the Willis family down there or throughout the state. That is really neat to hear of your family connection with Post and Rogers. Thank you for watching and sharing a little more!
There's a lot of wisdom in this cemetery, especially the Wil Rodgers sayings. I wonder if they harvested the granite that you pointed out for headstones. Thanks for such a whimsical tour. 💕🙂
Yes all of this Granite came from this area and these mountains are a big supplier of those markers. Thank you for watching Marcie!
Too Funny! Loved it!
Thank you for watching my friend!
You're wearing my team's hat! Let's go Sharks!!!!! This is a nice, bright, delightful and entertaining video. Good job and WTG. Thanks for your effort. Peace. Subscribed!
I love the Sharks and I sure would love to see them win the Cup some day. Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel!
Nice! Thanks for sharing! Quite amusing😋
You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you got watching Brenda!
Very humorous indeed! I liked the Will Roger's sentiments!
He had a lot of great sayings! Thank you for watching Janet!
Now that is something different. I haven’t seen that before. I have to wonder if those were reject stones that they re-implemented. At Troost’s Monument company, I saw lots of really nice stones that he said we’re rejects, and one would never know there’s anything wrong with them, the tiniest chip on there somewhere.
Entertaining!!
They very well could have been stone rejects or misprints that were then made into something else. I would bet the guy that started it had too much extra money. Either way it's entertaining. One thing about this area of the state is that practically everyone has this red granite on their graves. It's a lot cheaper when it doesn't have to be shipped. Thank you for watching Ron!
Yes, this was a lot of fun😂
My family's originally from Mangum and we had relatives that lived in Granite. I haven't been to Granite since 1966. Last time I was in Mangum was. 1987. We plan to head back that way in another year or so. Looking forward to it.
Great video
Thank you for watching Debra.
You gotta love Will Rogers, sharp and witty, and very true, even to this day. He was very good at making people laugh at themselves, and he didn't spare anyone from his sharpness.
He really was a witty and entertaining man. It's no wonder everyone liked him. Thank you for watching!
Those are funny & crazy !
Yes they are. Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory fascinating
that was a funny video awesome the saying on the stones really make you laugh
I thought so too. There may be another little attraction like this somewhere but this is the only one I know about. Thank you for watching!
You have a good eye, Rhetty. When I was there I didn't notice the names on the granite mural. Too bad the gate is now locked. Nice to see it again, a few years later.
I couldn't remember how it was in your video but I remember that gate being open and also all of the markers standing up. Maybe someone was knocking them down and that is why they had to lock it. Thank you for watching my friend!
@@RhettyforHistory Yes, it was definitely open and I think you’re right. I think they were all standing up and it seems like there were more of them toward the back of the cemetery. Probably vandals and thieves. ☹️
I can't remember if it was full but that is sad if someone stole some or broke them. If that was the case I would be worried if u was that monument company next door.
Good stuff… Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome and thank you for watching Ron!
Just found this vlog. So interesting. Looks like I should make a trip out to Oklahoma at some point. I have family in the northern part of Texas not to far from Oklahoma. Love the channel Rhett.
There is a lot to see in both Oklahoma and Texas! Thank you for watching!
Neat video. Have not been in that area since the summer of 69. They were filming the movie "Tell them Willie Boy is here" when I was there. The actors were staying at the lodge. That area was Comanche country known as the Big Pasture. The Waggoners and the Burnetts of the four sixes and the Triangle ranch leased over 600 thousand acres from Quanah Parker and the agency. That is how Quanah got the Star House that sits at Cache. It was a copy of the CO's house at Ft. Sill. He told the agent that was what he wanted for his part of the lease.
I did not know they filmed that movie in the Granite area? The lodge that they would have stayed in burned down. Cache is about an hour from Granite.
Rhett, I enjoyed your video to this cemetery in Granite, Oklahoma. Enjoyed the funny epitahs on the gravesites. Also, enjoyed seeing the granite display photo of the late entertainer, Will Rogers, and the scenic mountains in the background. Take care 🐎
It really is a neat little stop on some Oklahoma Back Roads. Thank you for watching Brenda!
The mural was so unique. I wonder how much all the granite would have cost. And the tombstone sayings were funny and different. I wonder why they had 2 of the same one. Thanks for the tour.
I'm not sure why they had two of the same headstones. I wonder if one was in another cemetery somewhere. I suppose the Granite was just the cost of the machines and tools as well as time. I would bet that monument company next door is who was responsible for the mural. All that Granite is basically in their back yard. Granite markers are really common in this area and I suppose it's cheaper since it doesn't have to be shipped or have some sort of middle man. I'm going to show some cemeteries in the area and you'll notice how there is a lot of this red Granite in them. Thank you for watching!
I love those lol Thanks for sharing Rhet! Btw....your beard looks so soft! :)
Thank you for watching Kim. I put conditioner in it to make it a little softer.
These are good!
Thanks from blistering Minnesota. I enjoy your videos. Guessing the mural is 20 feet if the sections are around 18”. Peace to all during the Christmas season. ☮️
The way you are describing Minnesota right now sounds really bad. How cold is it and how much snow?
Great little cemetery. Good to add a little humor to it all. Thanks Rhetty.
Yes it is Harry. Thank you for watching!
Good sayings on many, someone had a wit, Granite has to be a “solid” place to be! Thanks for posting this video!
Haha! I see what you did there! Thank you for watching Bryan!
Awesome video! 🌹
Thank you for watching Bonnie!
@@RhettyforHistory You're welcome!
Hello to your family! 🌹🌹🌹
Safe travels!
merry Christmas and a happy New Year
Thank you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well!
Hey Rhett, great cemetery. I loved Will Rogers and his sayings.
Again. Great work.
Thank you.
You're welcome. Will was certainly a witty and entertaining guy. Thank you for watching!
HEY Rhetty. Looks like the wind was blowing so hard it blew the color out of your beard. LOL 😂😆
Haha! Yes it did many months ago! Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory thank you for such great videos.
You are most welcome.
You do a really good job thank you keep up your good job I live in Oklahoma City Oklahoma I just want to tell you I have a long beard and long hair I will let you go and just have a Merry Christmas bye-bye
Thank you for watching and I appreciate the kind words. I have a bunch more to cover in Oklahoma and Oklahoma City so it should be of interest to you.
Are the sections of granite around 18” each on the will Rodgers mural? Just guessing maybe 20 feet high? Thanks for the tour on this blistering Minnesota morning. I enjoy your videos ☮️ especially during this Christmas season
I'm not really sure but they look to be more than 18 inches. It really is pretty good size and I haven't seen anything like it before. Hope you are staying warm where you are. Thank you for watching!
Just throw another log on the fire.
This was great fun! That Will Rogers portrait is just amazing. Merry Christmas!
Yes it is. Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas Tricia!
The epitaphs made me giggle :)
They are quite entertaining. Thank you for watching Janet!
Mister Will Rogers was a great American of the Great Plains. R.I.P., good sir
That granite memorial is amazing. Thought it was just painted plywood until the close up revealed it to be sculpted, polished granite.
I'm assuming the Will Rogers was done by the monument company next door but I really do not know. It would be great if they had something out there explaining more about it. It's really impressive work. Thank you for watching my friend.
This was very interesting loved it soon I will be doing a unusual grave on something famous but can’t give to much a way
I can completely understand that Rob. I appreciate you watching. I've been thinking about you with the news of Traveling Buddy passing. That was really sad news.
@@RhettyforHistory yes he was my best friend we will be doing a memorial for him online Amy from whatthe?paranormal is putting together
I'll try to tune in when it happens. I know you two did a lot together. Adventures and reunions etc.
@@RhettyforHistory you and I go to meet up someday that would be epic
Yeah I really need to make my way up there and do some filming!
Will Rogers was well known for his Humor 💕
Yes he was and he was quite good at it. Thank you for watching Josele!
Another great video thank you the cemetery i spoke to you qbout is called livingston con poor farm cemetery is on find a grave

Thank you for watching Wesley! Now where did you say this cemetery was again?
@@RhettyforHistory the cemetery is in rural Livingston county in Illinois
Call me stupid but i seen this place before?? not sure how Loved the video Rhetty thankyou very much
I'm sure you may have seen other youtubers cover it. The only one I know has is Visiting Gravesites With Steve. He has family in a cemetery nearby and was passing through. I think that was at least two years ago. Could that be where you saw it?
Not sure as to long ago
I wasn't sure if you were subscribed to his channel?
My favorite Will Rogers' quote" Congress deadlocked unable to act....Now ain't that a bless?"
That is a good one! He was certainly witty!
@@RhettyforHistory Yep and very true in many cases
Yes it is!
@@RhettyforHistory Yep life doesn't change that much as people don't really change
Yeah I know we have heard about the press or this and that has changed but it's really always been similar if not the same.
Got a holler out of the government one. We just had one formed and well... what fact shall I start with? LOL
No kidding! There is a lot to choose from. Thank you for watching!
Guessing the Will Rodgers mural is 20 feet 18” sections.
They really need a sign explaining more about the mural.
Back in the day if a young man did something stupid and you could be salvaged you got the opportunity to 'join' and do a 'vacation' tour of South Vietnam. However, otherwise, if you were under 18 you went to Helena. If you were over 18 you went to Granite. Two of my friends were salvageable but did not survive the opportunity. The thought of Granite brought more fear than the 'vacation.'
Are you talking about the Granite correctional facility? I know my Dad said he served with guys who were in prison and given the opportunity to serve. He said you never left anything unguarded or they would take it. Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory Yes, say a guy was caught with a car that was not his, and he was 18, he was sent to Granite Prison. If he was 17 he was sent to Helena Reform School. However, if the guy was generally OK they got the opportunity to join the military. I knew several guys that had the opportunity to take the military option and did. One dude was so bad he was kicked out of the military and has added to his criminal record as last I heard.
Oh I see. I haven't heard of the reform school until now. Thank you for the additional explanation.
I love cookies!
Thanks for watching Scooby!
Rhetty you are really amazing on how you cover Oklahoma
History by the way Augusta Gus Bobbitt was buried in Rosedale Cemetery in Ada Ok he was assassinated by Killer Jim Miller
I will be covering his grave at some point. I have a couple in Ada that I want to do. Thank you for watching and I appreciate the kind words!
@@RhettyforHistory you are welcome my friend keep me posted on Oklahoma history you do it really well
I'm mixing it up with a little from all over but there are new videos each week.
You were not far from Rainey Mountain Cemetery. Big Tree is buried there. The story of him and Satank and Satanka and the church there is interesting.
I was down in this area mainly for a story that will probably be out on Monday. Thank you for watching James!
Im writing these things down and am gonna share them with my friends.
Hi Rhett, that mural was amazing and the quotes were quite funny 😁
Is the Will Rogers museum close by to there?
I really enjoyed this, thank you. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
That museum is up in Claremore and is about 4 hours away. It is more in the NE part of the state. His influence was all over though especially in the U.S. I always figured Wiley Post's influence was bigger world wide. Thank you for watching Jodie!
@@RhettyforHistory I would definitely like to see the museum, I think that would be very interesting.
I knew who Will Rogers was, way before I knew who Wiley Post was. I am shocked though about how old Will would be now, I didn’t realise he was born and died that long ago.
Another interesting one, I truly enjoy your videos, also I wander if they put the pumpkins out for the deer
I think you are probably right on the pumpkins. There is a lot of wildlife in the area. Thank you for watching!
There realy was an athlete name Joe Jackson. He was known as Shoeless Joe Jackson because he played professional baseball shoeless. He played for the Chicago White Sox.
I wasn't sure if they were referencing him or not. Thank you for watching!
Shoeless Joe Jackson was one of America’s greatest athletes and base ball players. If you get a chance read Eight Men Out. 😊 He wore his shoes. The reporters claimed he ran so fast his shoes were left behind. It was just to sell papers.
There is a lot of granite west of Austin, Texas. In fact the Texas Capitol building is make of it. No funny cemetery though. There is a state park, "Enchanted Rock State Park" near hear with a very large rock made of granite. You can climb on top of it. Not recommended in summer though!
Yeah I can picture it being to hot to touch in the summer. What is the large rock though? Just something to climb on or something written in it? Thank you for watching Patty!
@@RhettyforHistory The granite rock is very large. Many people can and do climb on it every year. There is room on top for as many as want to climb it. It is huge.
That must be really huge. Sounds interesting!
Atheist headstone " All dressed up and no where to go." I did see a fancy one of a young man who died, Headstone read " Never too old to rock and roll but always too young to die."
That's where the mirror comes in! Haha!
You should do vids on astonauts from Oklahoma !
My headstone would say: Not dead...just moved away to live with Jesus.💕😇
Kinda wander what it would have like if Will Roger's had lived longer. Of course we could say that about alot of those who died early.
He was very popular at the time and especially so in America. I am sure he would have kept going and remained popular. As far as Wiley Post, I am not sure. He was the bigger loss in the world at the time but many have forgotten his achievements. Thank you for watching Sherry!
🎅👍🎄🎁
Thank you for watching!
Rhetty, I noticed no one asked so I will. How's Ranger? I have adopted him as my internet dog as I do not have a dog.
He's doing great! Just as fiesty as ever. We had new internet installed. Supposed to be better with fiber wire. Didn't take him long and he ripped out of the wall and chewed it up outside. So they had to come back out and install it again but reinforce it! Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory, Fast internet, what is that? The best internet here is 3rd world at first world prices.
I bet so. They are basically installing this and slowly forcing people off of the old kind. So we thought we would jump the gun. We forgot to consult with Ranger because he did not approve!
@@RhettyforHistory, We're running 5G fiber and still lucky if we get 20Mbps most of the time.
Those are mountains? 😂
SW Oklahoma mountains that is. They are certainly not as tall as what is in the SE and nowhere near Colorado. Thank you for watching Sally!
Abe Martin, not Abe Lincoln, just saying
Thanks for the correction
