The air starter really seems like it belongs, fits the theme of this truck very well and is period correct as far as I know. You have built one hell of a cool truck,I never seen one like it in person.
@peterincgy its a rat rod style truck. That's why he hasn't touched the paint. I think it looks awesome! Some people nowadays are just clear coating over the rust and leaving it. I dont know how it came about but its the new "thing" for these old trucks. Pneumatic start ftw buck!

Sure! It is an air starter. The starter looks like a mini turbine engine. When you hit hit the button, air from the air tanks flows through the valve into the little turbine and turns the shaft that turns the gear that engages with the flywheel and turns the motor over. It works just like a normal starter except it's air powered instead of electric. Air starters used to be very popular in the 70's and 80's on diesel trucks because they were very powerful and turned the motor over very quickly.
@Buckbz I love this truck especially the motor. Just a few questions for you: What Brand/Model Turbo is that? Where did you get the injectors? How is the governer modified? About how much does all this cost? I'm intrested in building a High-Performance 53 series and I think you seem to know what's what. Thanks, Ben
You might want to move that air filter, it looks like its sucking hot air off the exhaust manifolds, and it is costing you hp and raiseing your egts...
I Have a few thing to ask you 1 how much boost , 2 r u running a bypass blower housing , 3 what size and trim r u running on the turbo ? , I might put two turbos on my 8v71 and kind of need a place to start
I am restoring a 49 international KB 7. I want to put a cummins 6BT in it. What is your air filter set up? I was told that I could not put a filter directly on the turbo...obviously that is incorrect. Thanks Rick
