I rooted against Lennox Lewis every time he fought because I couldn’t stand him. By the time his career ended I became a huge fan out of respect for his toughness and how smart he was in the ring. Salute Lennox !!!
Lennox was a great fighter. He avenged both losses and knew when to step down. He left the ring with all the belts, has all his mental faculties intact, managed his money well and kept his family together. For a professional fighter it doesn't get any better than that. Too bad many other great champions have not done the same. Such an excellent example of cerebral boxing by Lennox... He fought his fight... He wasn't trying to knock him out just land nice clean punches. The force a big man can hit with when simply concentrating on speed and accuracy is enough in its self... Both good examples of their craft and style. Lewis, using his jab, reach and range to keep the short stocky puncher at bay. His stick and move approach, outscoring his opponent. Tua using head movement, effective slipping and hitting the body of the bigger guy, attempting to slow him down and expose his chin. Good pugilism on the parts of both fighters..

Bruno S. Silva ......are you BLIND?!! Lewis....is NOTORIOUS for pushing down on the back of his opponents neck if they duck low. No excuses Tyson was smashing even bigger guys in his prime and look at Rocky Marciano the smallest heavyweight ever but never lost a fight and was only knocked down once Tua was knocked down a couple of times
Lewis was truly a dominant force. I can remember that after Lewis regained the title against Rahman, he was getting the Yankees and Lakers pub on ESPN. It is just a shame he wasn't appreciated his whole career. In my opinion, he is arguably in the conversation for a top 3 Heavyweight of All Time. He would have done the same thing to a prime Tyson, Lewis only got more dominant with age. The jab was remarkable, the footwork, the chin was his only downfall. If you knock him down, chances are he isn't getting back up. Perfected his craft until he retired. He was landing very vicious shots on Vitaly in his last fight. The last man to win a round from him. I gave Tua three rounds in this fight, I gave Tyson the first and ONLY round. I had it 117-111 for the first Holyfield fight and 115-113 for the second. The last heavyweight to beat every man he faced...including the avenged losses.
Prime Lewis vs. prime Tyson would have resulted in Lewis getting KO'd. Lewis did not have the chin to deal with Tyson's power, and Tyson clocked everybody during his prime.
Lennox Lewis was from another planet. Master of the game at his prime. His fluidity is second to none. AJ is more stiff to my opinion. Unfortunately, at 29 years of age, he's already made the amount of money Lennox Lewis made in his entire career. But Lewis was a better boxer.
One of the most technical, hard hitting HW's ever and he's always been underappreciated. He could box, keep his opponents at range with his jab, he could brawl when needed and he was also great inside. He had a devastating right hand as well as uppercut. Defeated every man he ever fought, very few HW's can say that.
That is soo true ive seen lennox box hes way. Outa. Trouble most times but there have been a coupla times where he needed punching power to end things three or four times i think. I. @Elkster Eidolon I can't think of what Boxer you're talking about in this bout so I think you might have it confused. I have to tell you what actually happened. Instead of closing in to close range to unleash big shots like he needed to (against an opponent with much more height and reach): Tua just stood off and got his face jabbed and clocked to a pulp. Lewis could just box the entire fight. and copped only maybe 3 good shots from Tua, while giving Tua at least 20. Neither me nor Tua's corner nor George Foreman commentating could understand what Tua was doing, blowing his big title shot. Was he afraid of losing his BS "never been knocked down" brag? Had this been one of those 15 round fights like in the old days: Tua would've collapsed before the fight was over.
@Elkster Eidolon You are too laughable to take seriously. You don’t even know what boxing is, let alone what a good boxer is. And you are actually too stupid to understand that throwing a fight means LOSING deliberately. Lewis won this at a canter, it’s only possible that Tua threw the fight (which would be even more disgraceful).
Guy is an absolute legend the more I see and rewatch, the more I understand just how good LL was. Played with his engery well and way able to ride / evade Tua , if you need proof of how LL would have beaten a prime MT I think this was it or very close.
I feel like that description greatly understates how dangerous tua was, particularly in those first 4 or 5 rounds before lewis succeeded in discouraging him. That was a high stakes tightrope walk, not a cakewalk
Tua steadily moved into Lennox's power hand. Looking to "hopefully" slip it or eat the shot to try and get close. What we saw was Lewis constantly being wary of throwing it unless absolutely sure it could land, using his extraordinary reach advantage in this contest. Ready at any moment to ride the bike backwards away from Tua. Tua was not outclassed. He had a 70" reach. Stayed the course, showed heart, and consistently tried to land some good shots on Lennox Lewis.
I think it's because he fought legends (Tyson, Holyfield) past their prime, which I think wasn't really his fault since he didn't have the opportunity to fight them.

Such an excellent example of cerebral boxing by Lennox... He fought his fight... He wasn't trying to knock him out just land nice clean punches. The force a big man can hit with when simply concentrating on speed and accuracy is enough in its self... Plus his absolute confidence in himself made him extremely calm and therefore allowed him to stay fluid i.e. no tensing when throwing shots... Do it for long enough and it simply becomes too much for your opponent. Should be Sir Lennox Lewis... IMO

Foreman would have KO'd him
Prime Lewis vs. prime Tyson would have resulted in Lewis getting KO'd.
But Lewis was a better boxer.
prince kelvin Chiwenite Lewis would obliterate AJ, Wilder and Fury.
One of the most technical, hard hitting HW's ever and he's always been underappreciated. He could box, keep his opponents at range with his jab, he could brawl when needed and he was also great inside. He had a devastating right hand as well as uppercut.

What a performance, I remember watching this live in the early hours and just enjoying the boxing lesson he gave Tua.
Really . A bit of a bully are we.??????????
You mean running away.
@@afabrown4802 No he meant a boxing lesson. Something it sounds like you've never been given at even the most basic level.
Lenox is one of the perfect boxer in the boxing history
A smart boxer vs a pure brawler.
Guy is an absolute legend the more I see and rewatch, the more I understand just how good LL was. Played with his engery well and way able to ride / evade Tua , if you need proof of how LL would have beaten a prime MT I think this was it or very close.
No tyson had way more head movement & most likely harder combinations when they landed..
David Tua was the sparing partner for Lewis before the Tyson fight..
This fight was a sparring session for Lewis.
He toyed with Tua from second 1 to the end in a boxing masterclass.
I feel like that description greatly understates how dangerous tua was, particularly in those first 4 or 5 rounds before lewis succeeded in discouraging him. That was a high stakes tightrope walk, not a cakewalk
Something you don't see in towards Boxing.Lennox Jabs we're exceptionally Underrated
Stayed the course, showed heart, and consistently tried to land some good shots on Lennox Lewis.
all that = outclassed. He lost. Stop the excuses.
@@bigdaddykp1108 nah he wasn't outclassed it was a close fight 😂 you're just blind bro
@@DanielMartinez-hz7ix Your opinion means nothing to me. He was outclassed.
@@bigdaddykp1108 that's why you're statement is an opinion mine is a fact
@@DanielMartinez-hz7ix He was outclassed. Too bad you're just mad and a hater to admit it holmes.
Ive always been a huge Tyson fan but the more i watch Lewis i think as an all around skill set he was the best heavy weight ever
I agree with you Lewis was a beast man but pre prison Tyson would have beaten him
The only heavyweight in history able to beat Lennox in his prime is Ali
Lewis was indeed a boxer n a problem solver in de ring....
He's one of my favorite heavyweights. Great technition and a class act!
@gusto gironand how in the rematch Lewis knocked rakman out. It happens.
The big man doing his stuff, cracking stuff LL
Lenox's jab straight is destructivly beautiful
Lewis was a great fighter, unappreciated in my opinion!
I think it's because he fought legends (Tyson, Holyfield) past their prime, which I think wasn't really his fault since he didn't have the opportunity to fight them.
@@brendanfrost2475 Actually Tyson vs bruno woudve been tyson vs lewis but bruno got the contract, it wouldve been a better fight since tyson was nearer to his prime at that point
@@AdoptedPoo That version of Tyson would not win against Lewis. He doesn't have Rooney and discipline by his side anymore. The Tyson in the late 80's up to his fight with Spinks: had great head movement, stamina, heart, and reflex. After his fight with Spinks, he only relied on his punching power and speed to finish the fight.
He was a Olympic Gold medalist!
Sure!! I'm recently discovering him since I didn't really care about boxing until that recently (only knew about the legends.. and for the others just their names)
And yes, what a fighter he was!! I've watched the fight with Holyfield.. what a fight!! beating Holyfield was really something!! and so on.here with this tank Tua was..!!
RIP Emmanuel Stuart on the commentary 🙏
