That's a beautiful dress watch. For when you don't really want to know the time. If for some reason your evening is so boring that you care about the time you can make the effort to get the watch in exactly the right position to see the hands thus making it clear to anyone looking that they are failing to do enough to entertain you. Perfect!
Beautiful ! It’s interesting how my taste has evolved over my watch journey. I’ve been wearing many different Smiths watches lately, and I’ve grown to love the 36mm case size. I would love this watch in 36mm! However, 38mm is definitely the sweet spot for most people.
cool, must have some great stories from working on a submarine! Just yesterday I purchased some fine leather boots for this winter. Great to have a tutorial if they get scratched up
@@lordbogus6709 You would be shocked Lordy - boring for the most part (we liked it that way!); most excitement / brushes with disaster were self-inflicted during training exercises and drills; ports-of-call stories? OK, those are usually pretty good, grant you. 😙 Remember - A great fairy tale always starts with “Once upon a time.” A great sea story always starts with “OK, this is no shit...”
Love the Nivada Grenchen brand (restoring a linen dial, small seconds 36mm dinner watch of theirs at the moment). That Antarctic might be THE perfect watch, if they made a no date version: AKA, “The Silver Widow.”
The Super Antarctic is on preorder now. I purchased one's , delivery is in March. Much more legible. Tim, I was taught by my father to shine our shoes using Kiwi polish. Brought back great memories. 😊
The biggest legibility problem with some watches is that whenever I look at them, I get so distracted by the sheer beauty of the watch that I forget to check the time! This is one of them. BTW. On very nasty and irregular scratches on leather, someone says that smoothing the scratch with fine sand paper before treating it helps the final result. I tested the method once, and as a matter of fact it was easier to treat a more even scratch. Of course, it's a fine line: don't go too hard with the sand paper or you will just make things worse.
Wow, I was waiting for this one, but christmas came early! Great you could get one after all Tim! Great review Tim think this will be my next watch. History, sportyness, its dressy, secor dial with sunburst, interesting lugs and 100m WR. And a cool name to boot! edit: it has instant date change too, will be refreshing after my Seiko 5 diver
This watch comes like a lightning bolt out of the 1950's 'atomic age'. Absolutely love it! Ok, I wouldn't fancy telling the time in a snowstorm, but that, I now see, is not the point. I can hardly find fault with it, design-wise, and the 100m WR and screwdown crown are a welcome bonus. Btw Tim, love the jacket. Putting doublebreasted lapels on a singlebreasted jacket is not easy to pull off but you've cracked it.
Beautiful and a watch that has intrigued me from the first moment I saw an example on IG a while before release. I just received the cousin to this watch 2 days ago, the Super Antarctic and the aesthetics and finishing are really beautiful but it looks like maybe they have not sorted the crown out because I have big issues with mine as does a friend that just received his today. Has been keeping good time at +5spd on wrist.
Such a cool watch! And who needs legibility, anyway? This way you have an excuse for staring at this beauty just a little bit longer... Thanks for the scratch removing tutorial. The bee's wax trick should come in handy when I'm traveling without my Saphir wax polish. ;) #teamgoodyearwelted
Hi Tim, the fact that reading the time is sometimes difficult just adds value to the watch. I design watch dials as a hobby and in some of them reading the time is a real challenge (dial layout changes and never repeats). With those watches, if someone asked you what time it is, you'd have to say, "Let me see... Hmm, I'll tell you in a little while." Regards from Chile!
Someone attempting to read that dial in Antarctica during any sort of weather seems almost farcical. Did the person(s) wearing it make it back from the expedition? How late were they?
I wish you would review Zodiac 53 skin diver….which is actually the true first commonly available diver watch for the mass since 1953 that no body remember beside the Blancpain and Rolex…..please.
Interesting watch but not suitable for people suffering from arachnophobia 🥶 Also liked the leather tutorial. I normally achieve the best results with Grison Creme Essentielle which is quite easy to polish and adds nice gloss which helps to mask any scratches. When applied to the whole piece it also provides some protection against future scratches.
How was your communication and buying experience? I wrote them once about wrong titles for the bracelets to choose on their website. Got no response. The site was very fuzzy anyway so I didn't order anything. They got bad social media an bad display for their watches. Anyway the spider is unreadable and the lumen is weak.
Certainly an unusual and cool looking piece, but unfortunately the customer service is complete cr*p. Mine had a problem with the winding mechanism and was mailed back to Nivada nearly ten weeks ago. No reports on the repair from Nivada and they have ignored my last three e-mails. It's hard not to conclude that it's just another revival brand that doesn't give a damn about its products once they're sold.
This watch is definitely not for me....................way too dressy IMHO. Thanks Tim for your tutorial though. I´m sure it will help me with the next blemish 🙄🙄

A watch with a strong personality, a dial that evokes the icy landscapes of Antarctica.
Only a true artisan uses the finger to apply material to leather, well done Tim.........................................
Fabulous, Bold, Adventurous but well thought out design. Bravo.
Legibility sacrificed on the alter of design, no problem !

That tutorial is a keeper! Wish I had it back in the day - submarine watertight doors and ladders were hell on Navy-issued boots and shoes.

Very unique application of hour markers. Nice review Tim!

great video and superb pick of a watch. I am just once again amazed about the fact that your subjective watch taste is matching mine on 100%

A bit expansive maybe but this dial is amazing. I love it.
Thanks for the scratched leather tutorial Tim. I just happened to scratch my boot the other day and so it was very helpful. Take care. Ross

It is a funky design . I like it . Very 60's.

Excellent introduction for this video!
Thank you!
Nice looking dial and case design. Just a little to small for my taste. Great review!
Useful tutorial. Will try on my wallet that was scratched from my keys.

Watch is beautiful!
Wow - rethinking my 3 watch collection…Beautiful and different and Swiss.
Don’t know much about the movement
Very interesting looking time piece.
The more i look at this Watch, the more i want
Thank you Tim!
You're welcome!
I like this watch but hate the cyclops. Also nice Nivada not overcharge with their releases

You‘re welcome!

Thanks for the hint!
Ich mag deinen Uhrengeschmack, deine Einblicke, deine Musik und deinen Modestil sehr…..was alles meine Lieblingsarten sind. Danke!

I didn't buy that watch. It's a prototype for the press and I have to give it back. Contact was pretty chaotic too.

Unique design ruined by the date , perfect size for 17cm wrist.
The OG had one. Sure you would nag if it didn't have one. Also, IMO its balanced, the text is on the other side
