That Mi-17 has to be one of the smoothest, most well-rounded helicopters out there, and it's been around for decades.
That's normally a good sign of design, it's around for decades. The MI8, the UH1, the Boeing 737.
The Mil Mi-17 is a phenomenal aircraft. 40+yr old airframe and it's built like a tank. Noisy tail rotor, rattling main gearbox and what not, yet the lads whove flown her swear by her reliability. One incident:
A Mi-17 was flying in eastern India, carrying the GoC of Indian Air Force's Eastern Command ( 3-Star General/Air Marshal ) and his second in command, a 2- Star Major General (Air Vice Marshal) earning the bird the call sign "Eastern One". 75 kms into the flight, it suffered a dual engine failure at 6,500ft. The chopper went into a autorotation and barely 2000ft from terrain, the pilots restarted an engine and continued flying and while at mere 600ft, they restated the 2nd engine. The failure to restart took 116 harrowing seconds. Finally they continued their journey for 60kms more and successfully landed the bird. 20 souls on board. (2 Generals & Staff + 4 Air Crew). #India #Russia 🇮🇳

Korea has the better Mi172 in the police. Both Korea and North Korea have MD500, Iskander-M ,Zircon and Avangard, Interesting.
