- 7 RAF Chinook helicopters flying circuits at MoD Airfield Keevil in Wiltshire, England. They were practicing for the RAF 100-year celebration flypast of 103 aircraft over London (on 9 July 2018).
The 7 Chinooks (plus one on the runway) were certifying pilots for the formation flypast which will include 10 RAF Chinooks.
The formation, which had callsign "Vector combine" was seen at Keevil on 19 June 2018. The yellow tailed CH47 with the demi-pegasus winged-horse on the fin is from 28 squadron who are celebrating 100 years (1915-2015).
MoD Keevil is 5km east of Trowbridge and near the Salisbury Plain military training area. - Авто/Мото
when u hear a chinook coming from a mile away and it vibrates and echos its the most amazing sound ever !
Try being out on an operation for 4 weeks in Afghan and you finally hear them coming over the mountains to pick you up. Amazing sound
Argentina. 😎. 👍
At RAF Northolt I heard a German UH-1 coming over the sound of the A20 motorway for a full five minutes before it came into sight: making Apocalypse Now must have been awesome... ;-)
Chinooks are not that loud, sorry.
On quality of noisy wrong fun they beat everything, though...
I thought it was a tractor at first-
The rotors are louder than the engine
Ride of the Valkyries was the perfect touch
I’m on a job in Warminster, Waterloo Lines an MOD base. I was sat in my motor having a cup of tea and slice of cake 🇬🇧
When out of nowhere 2 Chinnock‘s came to land in the field right next to the job. All the lads got out there vans to have a look, incredible to watch and the noise!
They landed dropped off some people, then gone in a few minutes… wow 😮
They sound okay if you catch them at the right angle. The best sounding helicopter ever is the UH-1 HUEY. It’s known as the best sounding helicopter since Vietnam. You Can hear inbound HUEY’s from 5 miles out depending on their height. It’s rhythmic and the sound definitely stops one on their tracks. I miss hearing them flying overhead back in the 1970’s and 80’s. Sometimes when they flew in V patterns at 10,000 feet you would hear them for 20 minutes and look all over for them wondering where they are and then finally you would see these little tadpole dots in the sky way up there. Amazing stuff from my childhood
The Huey is a classic sound quite unlike any other helicopter.
Awesome footage... the sound of just one Chinook is special...can't comprehend how epic 7 would be....WOW!!!!
I flew on the CH 46 D which is slightly smaller than the CH 47 SAME TANDEM ROTOR Navy and Marine Corps flys the CH 46
You can count on loud rumbles especially going threw mountain passes
I loved every darn minute of it.
We regularly have Chinooks flying low in Devon along the coast. You never ever grow tired of the sound. The Thu Thu Thu Thu..... Hairs on end stuff.
Loved flying in these, you can feel the beat of the blades in your chest and the down draft is so powerful when you come out the back doors...
you know the noise has to be loud as hell, but the chinook is a beautiful aircraft.
@No rude That is true I normally don't
here them until they are about half a mile away
I had a pair of chinooks flyover my house it literally vibrated my home. Cant imagine anymore than 2
Wow ... I have heard one, but 7 ... Top notch
I live about 6 miles as the Chinook flies from RAF odiham and have been listening and watching them fly over since 1980 and I'm still not bored, the best time is when they are training at night and you can hear them from miles away slowly getting louder until the windows begin to vibrate.
That gives me chills and I'm very jealous of you
This is the sound of Freedom.
Used to live about 50 miles from Ft.Bragg/Pope AFB. I loved to watch various aircraft fly over. Can't imagine the fear of enemy in Asia or Middle east when the sounds of choppers were heard coming in the distance.
That sound is awesome...most I’ve seen in formation is 4 flying over my house it made the windows and doors rattle lol 😂👍
Same today at my work as well the whole office was shaking
no mistaking that thump thump fro miles away awesome bit of kit
I could sleep peacefully to the sound of chinooks flying overhead... 😴 i love the sound especially when its coming towards me from a distance.
I used to live in VA Beach and we would see these massive helicopters on a daily basis. You could hear one from over a mile away, with the loud vibrating of the propellars!!!
yhe sound of these are hypnotic
Love this music.this type of formation used to fly over My house often
Living in Essex Kent you see all the time great piece of engineering.
They sound amazing!!!
Well done Paul you have certainly made your father proud. Make sure that you are sitting comfortably as the vibration damage creeps up on you eventually. Best wishes young man.
The CH 47 Chinook is just beautiful and in San Diego the Chinook is one of the most rare aircraft you can find and I have only seen one in person
I kinda feel sorry for ya they come around my area every now and then but if it was every day it wouldn't be enough
Ch-47, the Queen of Heavy Lifting. she is big, she is tough, she is also surprisingly fast 😁
Callsign Vortex Combine.
Mix of Chinook with Puma
8 were up with 7 doing the flypast.
I love the sound of the choock helicopter

When u look up and see that many choppers u know hell is coming down on u
This is Heart of America
I've had one fly over my house a few times was very cool to watch, just one vibrates everything and the sound is so loud, trying to imagine 7 😮👀
Love these flying machines!
RAF Chinooks and Pumas with 24 Air Mobile . My military glory days ! !. JR, 1 PWO. 1990s
You can hear a 100 choppers and you ‘might’ look up. But when you hear the ‘woka-woka’ sound, you search the sky to find it.
People around Salisbury Plain tend to call Chinooks "wocka wockas" because of the noise, makes them a bit cuddlier when they fly low over your house!
Thank you so much
This would be amazing to watch in real life
The wokka noise was awesome.
I am a nerd when it comes to CH 47 chinooks

Would be better if you stay in school instead of going to the army lol
The entire RAF
One of the few helicopters I haven’t flown in, don’t remember if the British Army had them in inventory back in the 1970-80s, only had Wessex, puma’s, gazelles, Sioux during they time. No helicopter time with CANADIAN FO4CES but I did get twin Huey ride at the end of my UN Cambodia. Tour in1993. I’m a ❤helicopter guy

My 2nd fave only after the huey
yes. the huey has such a lovely rotor sound.
BirdsEyeView not the new ones tho they don’t sound as good
@@adams4100 true. the bell 412 is a 4 rotor aircraft and sounds modern. the bell 212 still has 2 rotors and the classic beat.
BirdsEyeView spins in sync to the beat of fortune son perfectly
The Cobra also has the "thump" with the 2-blade rotor.
Anyone know why the tail end of the lead chinook has a design, is it something to do with squadron ?
yes, each squardron at raf odiham had one ch47 painted in a special way. there were 4 of these and they were individually and attractively painted. you can see pictures of them all by doing an internet search..
its pegasus
Marc 9663 That chinook helicopter with the yellow design that has a Demi-Pegasus winged horse, that’s the queen 👑 chinook. Her name is Queen Gracie Chinook helicopter Royalty
18/27/28 each had an aircraft painted to celebrate the centenary. All green again now.
From memory 7 didn't have one actually painted but had a design made.

This is basically the entirety of the UK’s utility helicopter fleet. What a shame. Once the mightiest army in the world…..now about the size and capability of a large US City police force.
We have a lot of helicopters with many Chinooks based at Odiham and also at Benson. We have fleets of RAF Pumas, RN Merlins and AAC/RN Wildcats too. No to mention a fleet of Apache attack helicopters at Wattisham.
@@SalisburyPlainAviation Yeah…you’re making my point. “A fleet of Apaches”. To be clear, Im not at all criticizing the enthusiasm or professionalism of the UK Forces. Im just saying the current UK Forces are a drop in the bucket compared to their historical standings. I think the UK will come to regret that they have allowed their military might to degrade so much. The US is now on the same path too.
I have real concerns that China is likely going to be the global military superpower in the next 30 years.
@@crystalblevins1196 True. We had ten times the aircraft in the 1960s.
Surprise attack with these American choppers is totally unrealistic
Which is why they aren't used for attack they're used for logistics, troop deployment and med evac.
