  • One of our BSD pilot (also IRL chopper pilot on UH-60) got a chance this summer to ride in an Mi-17 during his stay in Kosovo and was able to compare it to the DCS module (only on BSD forum). If you are flying often with the DCS Mi-8 you should recognize so many familiar sounds and recognize many of the panels you can see on the video.

    Great to see confirmation that they set the Force Trim center *constantly* ! (I have a FFB stick so I actually *feel* it! Stick goes loose and floppy while I hold the Force Trim button down, then stiffens up in the position it's in when I release it. I wish it worked so well in the fixed wing DCS planes but not usually, other than the Mustang. Though even with it, it throws off the trim wheel positions from where they should be. Wish DCS would add FFB axis bias to the FFB dialog. Right now all you can do is swap and/or invert the FFB axes.)

    Interesting to see that the VSI is much more inaccurate in the real thing.

    • @AdmiralQuality
      @AdmiralQuality 3 года назад

      What makes you feel it's inaccurate? At what time index?
      You might just be noticing the lag which, yes, I think DCS doesn't model in any of its VSIs. I noticed that the very first time I flew DCS in the TF-51D.

    • @TheNicestPig
      @TheNicestPig 3 года назад

      @@AdmiralQuality in the Mi-8 and Mi-24 it does actually, leads to quite a few VRS death to me since you can't "feel" the VS yourself.

    • @AdmiralQuality
      @AdmiralQuality 3 года назад +2

      @@TheNicestPig You sure? I'm pretty sure they have instant VSIs as well. Seems to be an across the board issue in DCS. (If you do think that's a contributor to getting into VRS, watch the altimeter instead of the VSI. But, again, my impression has been they have instantaneous response so you don't actually have to do that. Real VSIs are part clock, so need some time before they can register the rate of change. Not a lot, just a second or two, but they always train pilots to not chase the VSI when trying to level out but rather the altimeter.)

    • @TheNicestPig
      @TheNicestPig 3 года назад

      @@AdmiralQuality i'm pretty sure that's the case, on both the Mi-24P and Mi-8MTV-2. I only use VSI when already descending to watch VS or on cruise. When i slow down to land i just memorize the actions and collective needed, looking at VSI would cause a VRS because it's delayed.

    • @AdmiralQuality
      @AdmiralQuality 3 года назад +2

      @@TheNicestPig I do glance at it to get the descent rate and keep it < 3. Though at this point I'm also really good at just judging it by eye and, yes, muscle memory too. These days I have to be goofing around to get into trouble in the Hip. But it used to happen to me all the time, of course. Great how this sim can actually ingrain this stuff into you!
