The same way that people admire fine art I do the same towards action figures. There's a certain beauty to the sculpts that only a collector could appreciate.

I've been into collecting figures since the 1960's. I would buy random pieces through the years, but I really got back into it after retirement. I'll be 72 in October. It never ends. Big like #128... Bat Toast
My wife got me to get one 6 tier shelf. And then I rotate my collection out every month. For example, I'll do a Jim Henson dedicated shelf, DC Shelf, Marvel Shelf, Video Game Characters, horror, TMNT, Disney, Star Wars, Anime, etc.
I find the older I get the more I want to buy and collect. To me its a form of art and I enjoy looking at all the different looks and designs. When you first start collecting you just want a bunch of figures on the shelf. The longer you do it then it starts to evolve. Now I want more details, props, and dioramas on my shelves to elevate the look.
Thanks for sharing Asoka, great perapective I always enjoy watching you, Rob and Brad. My wife would love if I quit collecting and as I always say this is my only "thing". I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. My kids are growing up and slowly moving out (we've got 4) and I work from home (which makes it a bit more dangerous when you collect). Definitely important to set a budget because you are absolutely right there is too much good product these days.
I love my collection, ive been collecting since 1999' and i sold off my collection before now i have the best collection ever and i couldnt stop its one of my passions but i dont just random buy things.
Dave.... I saw you post this as soon as it went up and didn't comment right away. It's funny as I just saw you and you presented the same questions to me that you mention in the video. I feel like it's all my fault I got you into this crazy addictive hobby..! LOL..! But glad you set your limits! I have some limits too, but they need to be made even tighter and more strict. One of them for me is to be an open box collector as I need to display and enjoy my figures and not just keep them all boxed away. Anyways, as long as you maintain your priorities, we can enjoy a hobby that brings us joy, even if it might not necessarily bring the same joy to the rest of the family..! LOL! Like if your wife likes to knit, it doesn't mean you need to like to do it too!
I totally agree. My collection I display in dioramas within nice bookcases and that helps mitigate how much I can collect. But with all these 1/12 scale vehicles, I really need to think what are my real favorites.
GREAT video! Sparking and bringing joy is the #1 reason I collect too! Thank you for sharing. Your videos are fun and positive which is a contrast to some collector videos by other content producers. Keep up the great work!
I do understand your pov., I guess we are similar age and I understand the things you touched on. Fortunately, I don't collect McFarlane, but the problem still remains as I collect SHF, Mezco, Mafex, Hasbro ML Black series Joes Hiya, some Storm Collectibles. 😅 I do collect for nostalgia, the only rule I have is a strict budget on things I buy or preorder. The hobby keeps me sane and the kid inside me alive. It's a great time we live in, we have so many properties to collect and choose from.
I got my first action figure in the 70s it was a mego batman and the flood gates were open. Thank you for your videos and passion for comics and super heroes. Ya gotta believe Nuff said
I have these same thoughts too sometimes. To keep myself in check financially with this hobby I usually just stick to anything Batman bc he's my favorite comic book character.
Spectacular video bro! Well spoken and as you know my journey is much like yours, I never really stopped from my youth. I also love that you only stick to DC (Star Trek and Marvel aside). That is something I wish I could do but I am so nostalgic for my 80s cartoons I just can't help myself. I use to collect Star Wars, 80s/90s Marvel and Ninja Turtles in the past but I have since sold off that part of my collection. The Mirage Turtles was my achilles heel though but I think I just want a red non battle damage Shredder and I would be done. But as you know I also collect, MOTU, Thundercats, Silverhawks, Transformers, Plunderlings and many more but my DC collection is my main interest. I have thought many times to just quit the scene but I just can't. Figures have come a long way since the early 80s and are only getting better. But I am running out of space. I have things in storage. It seems never-ending. I am living quite well but I do think about the future and what I could have had if I just saved or invested the money instead of buy figures. That one keeps me up at night. But who knows what the future will bring. I am thankful that I met great friends through the community and my love for photography and toys are now one!
I’m an out of the box collector and I recently ran out of space to display my figures. I’m still collecting but all of my new guys are trapped in their packaging just waiting for their spot. Here’s hoping for more space soon 🤞🏼
I can relate with this a lot. I've been collecting since the 80s. In the latter part, I decided to focus my collection on just DC Direct and Marvel Select. I supposedly bought my "last one" in 2019, as I was wholly satisfied with my collection. But then McFarlane came and like Michael Corleone, it brought me back in. Still, because I am so picky, I only like less than 10% of what Mcfarlane releases. For now, I will always buy my last one, once or twice in a quarter. In a year or two, I will quit. The dopamine hits that my collection gives me will wear off eventually. In your case, if your collection earns you money from RUclips and others, there's no reason to quit. By all means, keep collecting.
It's funny, when I am in a good mood, I really really love my collection. Then when I am in a bad mood I think why did I waste my money on this crap and I should get rid of them, but at these times I know I will love them again when my mood changes.
Man I love the content! Keep it up. Would love to be buddies with you and talk stuff! I collect neca horror, SOME marvel legends, and only the movie figure batman stuff for the most part with multiverse. I also collect pops which a whole other game haha. I strictly only buy something if it’s 100% something I will appreciate being on the shelf, as long as it represents something I love!
Im really grateful mcfarlane is making all these non A-list DC characters recently. As someone who is more into marvel its given me a nice break. Also, I would like to see maybe a short video on your legends collection and thoughts on the brand.
Thanks for sharing , I only got 2.5 years of Collecting , my brother got me into it and the Motu Universe and the Turtles 🐢 retro , and now Dc and Marvel … got a room that’s getting full😅. Just decided to take a 4month brake … till the end of the year … it’s begining to be an addiction so I wanna see if I can control it . Just made a promise to only get turtles 🐢 for now … it’s tough 😂 so many cool figures !
I have reduced the figures that I collect and only add only characters that i don't have in my collection & focus on characters that I like and know of. Occasionaly will pick a figure that really stands out. Shelf space is a major factor these days.
same way, sold about 150 figures last year in a big lot on ebay....and now im buying again XD I do mcfarlane now though. I was mainly marvel collector before I sold off. The lower price point, cloth capes, and the tooling/paint on mcfarlane just make more sense to me for the price. I dont play with my figures so the articulation really doesnt matter to me. im in my 30s and have always collected off and on I missed out on the DC direct and most of the early toybiz MLs because I did WWF/WWE figures. I stopped when mattel took over their brand from Jakks. I really started doing hard core collecting in 2017, took a break with the pandemic, and picked back up after selling last year. I kept my xmen and classic characters. Mcfarlane needs to slow down!!! I swear I see new things every single day
Its a weird time to be a toy reviewer, recently a lot of toy reviewers have made videos about the addiction, fomo, cutting back or quitting. You got some who balance collecting and then there’s the reviewers who work close to toy companies like basically employees doing puff pieces. Its a weird time for sure😂
Yeah dude I can totally relate to that. I love DC & McFarlane so that is what all my content is centered around, I know it probably seems like I’m working for them with all the content I produce, but it is a 100% because I love the product!
I feel like I'm MOSTLY done. I mostly collect DC Multiverse. There's a handful of characters I will buy if they get released but, personally, my setup is what I want it to be. I get more satisfaction from investing in stocks, these days. But that's just me. *Edit: I just saw you just mentioned the stock market after I made my post 🤣

I am so grateful that McFarlane made the ultimate 1966 Batman collection in 6in scale and not 7in scale. As I am a 6in collector and like everything to be displayed together. I already have the Mattel 66 Batmobile for my collection. I am hoping that if McFarlane rumors are true, and they make a 66 Batmobile and it’s an upgrade, it comes out next year lol. Good video 👍 I still collect coz it's fun and I want collectibles of the stuff I'm passionate about. I can't afford to buy everything I want lol, so I have to be more selective. And especially the way finances are now, I want to support the brands that I think deserve my hard-earned dollars. I need a shed of solitude lol I collect Transformers, Marvel, DC, Power Rangers, etc... I also have a bunch of Star Trek ships.
I have narrowed my collection to either specific themes or characters... i.e: ZS justice league, Batman 66. That way anything that falls outside my collected genres are not subject to purchase. The feelings of fomo are no longer an issue. Also space constraints also help with purchase decisions. If you can't find a place for it, it doesn't get purchased. As a result, I no longer buy Marvel legends, gi Joe classified, McFarlane toys, and star wars black series because they produce way too many figures. Mezco and third party companies are on a case by case basis.
