I am debt free. My house is paid for. I make 50k per year. I put 15% in ira/roth through my employer. After all my taxes, insurance, etc I bring home 1200 every 2 weeks. I put 15% of that money away into other savings, I also have an emergency fund and lord I swear I'm broke at the end of the month. I go literally no where. I also have to pay 1700 a year for property taxes, 200 a year for car registration (and my cars are 24 years old). My furnace/ac is about ready to die and the cost is 17k to replace. My home is 1200 sq ft. from 1950 (Which today is worth 400k absolutely insane). Things are bat sh*t crazy. The cost of food is insane. My electricity rates keep going up. My natural gas bill is ridiculous in the winter. My water bill is obnoxious and all I water is my tree so it doesn't die . I spend money to make repairs to my house. At the end of the month I'm like where the hell did my money go.

Blaming private enterprise for inflation is ridiculous to put it mildly.
Inflation is the printing of money, which results in high prices.
Private equity is not the problem… low information thinking is the problem…. People believe what the government tells them is the problem…. Even Harris said her debate that she was coming after big business boogieman, all the while….. it’s the government!

    • @LivingFree
      @LivingFree  8 дней назад +4

You're right, printing money results in inflation. There's other factors driving up the cost of living as well though. Like private equity investments buying up huge portions of things, raising the prices for profit and selling. Land is now a lot more expensive than even a few years ago.

Didn't recognize you from the thumbnail. Interesting topic. Of course there are more exceptions to the rule in every generational category. I read somewhere that people over 55 are the fastest growing cohort of homeless. House prices have been insane for many years. I was trying to buy something in 2012 and the house I wanted had gone from $70K in 2009 to $300K in 2012. $370 in 2013. .Sounds "cheap" now but look at how fast it happened then. I don't have any more money now than I did then, in fact less. It's a weird situation. You have the right idea with your RV, land and a plan to build up your property.

Yes I would love to splurge and spend more….however I love the feeling of being debt free! I am very Blessed, and realize some people struggle with just buying essentials! However, I think with where the economy is headed, we will have to learn to shop at stores with the lowest prices! When we found our place we paid cash so if something happened we didn't have to worry about our home. We tend to continue to do this. You nailed it when you said "If your an American citizen". Millions of non citizens Illegals have come into our country in the past 3 1/2 years and the crime rate has sky rocketed. Veterans have been dislocated in order to house illegals which the government is paying for with our tax dollars. The current administration does not give a crap about anything but power for themselves. I have been retired since 2006 and back when I retired I was only 59 1/2 years old but my home was paid for and we were debt free with savings from my 401K which I had been putting money into for 29 years. I cashed in my 401K and put the money into laddered CD's. 1 Year, 3 years, and 5 years. When I first did that the interest rate was pretty good all above 4 percent and one was paying 5.5 percent but as they matured the interest rates we going down and by the time the last one matured we could not even get 2 percent so I put money into 2 Annuities for 10 years and was able to get a little over 3 percent. I also put money into a mutual fund which paid monthly. I kept it for 9 years and when I sold the mutual fund I lost $14,000.00 but I put it into a great stock that has increased $16,000.00 since I bought it and it also pays a better monthly dividend than the mutual fund did. Don't feel bad for me on that because the money I drew monthly for nine years was more than the $14K I lost. I held out to draw my SS until I was 66 years old but when my wife turned 63 we were hurting for income so she started drawing her SS early which she will be loosing money when she turns 83 which will be another 6 years from now. When I first retired we were able to travel some and go out on a regular basis but for the past 3 years we have not been more than 200 miles from home about a half a dozen times because we don't have the extra money to do that anymore. The value of our home has just continued to go up up up so even thought my taxes are frozen we are having to pay more property taxes. The land our home is built on cost $10,500.00 when we had our home built in 1981. This year the tax assessor has put the value at $87,000.00 for just the land. I won't even tell you what they say my home is valued at. I will say that from the time I turned 65 and froze the school taxes I was paying taxes based on $150,000.00 less than I am paying today. Something is going to have to give. Our car insurance and home owners insurance has also taken a big jump. Our income has pretty much stayed the same expect I do try to invest a few hundred dollars more in the market to make a few more bucks on dividends each month. Because of our age our medical expenses have continued to go up and my wife is diabetic and her medicines are costing more every year. At this rate it will not be long before we will have more month than money to make it to the next month. So far we are better off than most since our current unpaid debt is less than $15,000.00. Any one of our 3 CD's would more than cover that and we could be debt free again but how long would that last if prices just keep out running our income?

I had a home and land paid for my dumbass didn't know what was coming i sold everything bought a RV what a mistake, but right before everything went up i bought another house cheaper than rent but unless i hit the lottery I'll be paying a house payment until i die even so when everything is paid off you still have Land taxes every year so in reality you never own anything. Food is more expensive but they've cut back on the amount you get as well. Has anyone noticed how the produce is smaller and half bad seems you can't buy good food anymore. Meat is much tougher and i don't care how you cook it. They're now making mechanically made meat and even if it's not made they aren't giving good feed to the animals now. $ general cost more than Walmart. My light bill has doubled in the last year it's crazy. I'm 63 disabled and still work almost every day and still can't seem to make it i also get a retirement check it's never enough.

I buy bulk eggs and meat when it’s on sale and it saves me a ton . This allows me to have what I want on hand without paying full price for my food. My income is from a government retirement I paid into plus some social security. My after tax is about 55k I do have a small house payment but it’s way cheaper than local rent . My utilities avg about $250 a month for gas electric water trash and internet. My vehicle and property insurance is about $150 a month. While not rich I get by just fine. My goal is to start a small business and pay off my house

Private equity practices are not new phenomenon. I doubt they are major contributor to the post-Covid hyper inflation situation. There are instanced where some private equity bought hundreds of houses in Austin, Texas and now they are taking major hit due to market tanking and selling houses at 2/3 of what they paid for.

Quiet letting them keep doing this. We accept all the regulations they put onto us. We keep paying the high prices. If we all stop pay the high prices this can't continue to go on.
Stop believing what they tell u. Stop bidding for real estate against each other.
Those who hv land share ur land, grow food & share to feed your neighbors and build our own resources. Do trades for what u hv with ur community. Walmart will suffer if we come together as a community.
We r so individualized, scared & divided ... That's how they hv us trained to do what they want us to do for their agenda. Divide and concord as the saying goes.
Covid time really isolated us & put such fear in us. Wake up! Look deeper really what is happening & what is true?
Political votes will not change what is happening. They r playing us. Vote for u & don't believe what they promise to do for us. We the people r the savior, not politicians no matter witch side. They haven't cared nor changed a bleeping thing for decades!😡

Many have been put on salary with cut hours. They re insurance is so expensive hardly anyone can afford it. I don’t see any raises in our near future. I have been there for 22 years and if it wasn’t for the relationships with residents I work for and some really great co workers , I’d quit. But the sad part is that company would not give one shit if I did even after being a loyal employee for so long. I can see how in other jobs without the close connections they just leave. Very interesting thanks for this information. I had not made the connection of why prices on homes had skyrocketed. I know one thing I have always felt like home ownership is all smoke and mirrors. You never really own the home because of Taxes. I have in my lifetime watched two good friends lose their homes they had lived in for decades. Due to illness and getting behind on taxes. I guess that also has a lot to do with location, and bad planning but still these two individual situations were so sad. People can't live on SS and afford high property tax. Thats why I love the idea of owning an RV and a small affordable piece of land like your doing. It's smart. But soon will end up over priced as well.

My husband passed away 3 years ago. He had us deep in debt. I feel like I am doing ok now by myself because I know what I can and cannot buy. The only thing now is that I don't own or live in a home that is mine. I do have a camper, I could live in that if I need to. My kids scare me with the way they spend money and are in debt. Their house payments are more than I ever made in a month. They are all hard workers tho so I guess I shouldn't worry.

I'm thankful that we worked 45 years, saved, and had some investments, and 401Ks. Lived way below our means to save, still do. We paid everything off way before retiring. I can see how it is easy for ppl to live way above their means, get in a hole, never get out. We don't waste a lot of money eating out. Healthier, usually to eat in. We have probably each bought 5 specialty coffees, ever. I will be very sad if we end up with socialized medicine; wait way more than a couple weeks for an appt. Ppl need to really educate themselves well, before this election, and vote early.

Middle class income is very dependent on where you live, here is what a large media network wrote: Middle class is commonly defined as earning between two-thirds and double the household median income. That means on a national level, the middle class includes households earning between $53,740 and $161,220 a year

  • @kerrys8024

"living below our means" would be living in a van or a tent, which is now illegal in a lot of places. a mortgage on a below average house is over 50% of the median income in the US. Meaning the majority of people cant possibly afford a house at all let alone have the choice to "live below their means"

$20.00 has lost approximately $18.55 in purchasing power due to inflation from 1998 to 2024. This highlights the importance of investing; simply saving money will result in a loss of value over time. Avoid debt and consider buying physical gold, silver, and Bitcoin. These are investments you should have considered years ago.

I audit my spending every few months and I always seem to find something I can change or do. It reminds me to get back to grocery shopping Whole Foods I always end up drifting to prepackaged meals and takeout. This time I went wild. Cancelled Verizon for Visible and paid a year up front, cancelled home internet since visible works great for hotspot in my rural area. Immediately saved $170/month out of pocket. Also told myself to break the coffee habit each morning. I enjoy super creamy coffee and the addins and cans of ready made were costing me $100/month. Paid off credit card $90/month. So after this audit I lessened expenses by $360/month. I know most people can’t do this it just works well for me not having internet etc. I have streamlined to 7 expenses each month. No subscriptions no nickels and dimes. Just cash grocery gas mortgage(includesinsurance) loan 1 loan 2 utility (gaselectric) and city(watersewergarbage) I guess it goes back to keep it simple stupid. I used to get so annoyed when you start
Listening to an influencer that might have something smart to say that’s helpful to getting out of debt and saving and then they say don’t get coffee cut the cable. How about make and maintain a budget, how about establishing an emergency fund.
