Scorpions, snakes, foxes, armadillos, raccoons, skunks, etc. It is critter city where they are. I would attach heavy-duty, galvanized hardware cloth around exterior joints and dim a trench at least a foot & half deep around perimeter to bury other side.
As someone who does this kind of work for a living, I’m impressed with how well you did. I would have done a few things differently but great job overall.
Guys - please, please, please don’t forget the safety gear. Construction sites demand protective gear for a reason - protection for your feet (toes and soles), your eyes, your lungs and your heads. And if you need to be found quickly should something bad happen, HI-VIS! We don’t want to be nannies - but, seriously, we want you to get through this build without major injuries - we really do! Even archaeologists put construction helmets on when the digger comes in! I only go onto construction sites to take photos - but I’m not allowed in without the full hat/hi-vis/boots combo. Better to look slightly ridiculous than hospitalised.
I'm glad you have so many safety warriors in your comments, which gives me the flexibility to enjoy your editing and personalities in spite of this intensely complicated project. You're nailing it (no pun intended)!
Kudos to you two for taking on the project and being so positive throughout! Hopefully the people trying to be helpful come across as exactly that and the naysayers and worryworts would probably never accomplish something like this anyway so don’t bother with any of that nonsense. Loving the change of pace! Been watching your videos for years and am loving the building now, something I’ve been considering doing myself! So fun to watch. Also loving and appreciate learning from some other commenters as the process goes on.
I could be wrong but I don’t think the hangers are attached. I think they just stuck them on each joist for later installation. Maybe we’ll see for sure in the next video though.
Yes, the hanger is supposed to support the joist from the bottom. That what that little bit that cups the wood is for. I am not sure how you even make that mistake, but hopefully they figure it out before they do any framing. I also didn’t see if they were checking the wood for which direction it’s bowing. The bow goes up so that weight from the top straightens it out rather than causing it to sag further.
OMG you guys I'm so excited about your show!!!! This is awesome, the tiny house is going to be so amazing!!! I'm so happy for your guys new adventure, and so proud of how far you've come into this journey. Love y'all you're my favorite show on RUclips. Congrats on your much deserved success ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Always tape glass before moving it like that. I use painters tape on both sides if you can access them which you could. Years ago I was working out in a GYM and some guy's were moving a large mirror and it broke while they were carrying it out and when it fell to the ground a long jagged protrusion of glass cut through one of the guys stomach on the way down and his guts were hanging out. He had a very very bad day.
Both doing amazing! (Even if it does look like Alison is doing most of the work! 💪😂) Well done! (but please put a mask on when dealing with concrete, concrete dust is not good for the lungs) 👍
We’re loving your new series and know nothing about construction so won’t say what you’re doing wrong!😂 You’ve inspired us to start our own travel channel. 4 videos in and it’s so much fun. Thanks!
Wow that was Some Rain fall 😮. What they say you learn from your mistakes 😜 I am sure you will have a great Tiny house / home. At the end of the take care 🥰
You got a lot of comments from helpful people with experience on this. I'll just say I'm very impressed with you doing this in a way that looks (to my eyes) at least decent, without any prior experience. Even more, I'm impressed with the positive attitude. This is difficult, it looks difficult, and you're staying positive as much as you can. Top youtube content!
I've read some of the comments about not having rebar in the footings. I agree with them. I'm not a construction expert but my brother has a masonry background so I know a little by helping him out. Hopefully as you continue on you consult experts when it comes to electric and plumbing issues. A house is different from an RV.
Wow, you guys work hard! I’m so impressed. Of course you’ll make mistakes, and learn from them, but at the end of the day you’ll have a beautiful home that you will be so proud of. Keep going! I can’t wait to see what you end up with.
My god, you guys are going great! I've looked at properties that needed work and thought "that's going to need a big team", so colour me enlightened! You're inspirational!
This is why I love watching you guys. You guys are humble, funny, and don't claim to be expert like most RUclipsrs do. We all learn from mistakes along the way, and watching others' YT videos doesn't make you an expert. I can't wait to see the finished product. If you guys ever here in San Francisco, I love to treat you guys to some dim sums in Chinatown.
I'm so excited to see this take shape! As someone who has a relative who has zapped themselves more than once, hire an electrician...and plumber. I think it's so cool you're doing all the woodwork. If Clementine is any indication of what the house will look like, it's going to be awesome.
Allison’s moment with the Bobby cat drilling totally gave me ‘Armageddon” vibes on the asteroid, 😂 Good luck with the project, I know nothing about this stuff !!!
I spent many years using many different nail guns. While the devices are designed to reduce the risk of injury, it is entirely possible to hit something and have the nail shoot back at you. I know this because it has happened to me more than once in the years of using them.
Good luck on your journey. I pray everything goes smoothly! At the end of the day, you can repair any mistakes you make but your physical wellness is irreplaceable. Thanks for taking us along
It doesn’t look like you used Pressure Treated Wood for the Subfloor! You should have! If you didn’t then use a Sealer of some sort, like Thomason Water Sealer, put a couple coats on it. The Joist hangers are upside down, but it will be Ok! When putting down the Plywood just make sure you glue it down as well as screw it. I’m taking it that you are not doing this with Permits! An inspector would have caught these things! If I remember correctly Texas is a little lacks on that. Also I would use a 3/4 inch plywood at least on the subfloor!
I double taked at the joist hangers. I was always confused when ive seen this because you would think common sense would tell you the board rests in the u to support it from the bottom. Not that big of a deal in their situation but still funny nevertheless.
I know nothing about construction or building so I won't criticize what you're doing, though I hope you are working a little more safely than it appears. You all are brave for sure - I get nervous about even little projects around the house.
You are amazing, it,s a real pleasure to follow you, whatever you do. Found you when you bought Clementine and was amased of youre renovation. Like you I am an amateure and 70+ but I still want to do things by myself. 1977 I built a house with my father in law, he was a carpenter not me. But when the house was finished I had learn a lot, so I really love to see you work with youre latest projekt, you got ten points from me and a lot of thumps up. Carry on, you make my week to the next chapter.
Well, I've watched video after video, looking for a good video of this kind of foundation, and here it is. Most of the videos I watched were so heavily edited they were impossible to learn the whole process from. I'm a visual learner and have all the "How To" books, but nothing beats a video for me. I'm super excited to see this come together for you and love your plans! Thanks!
You guys are amazing😊 Thank you for showing it all, from the garbage clean up to the building process. I look forward to watching your progress. See ya next week❤
Congrats to both of you for always trying to tackle even the hardest of jobs. Remember everyone makes mistakes, even pros, but they leave you with theirs to find later. Y' all can fix them as you make them. Good Luck on the tiny house!
So looking forward to the project! What a hoot! Get some pigs! Lmao! You all had a ton of protective gear when cleaning out the houses, where did it go?. 🙈🙊🙉The Chomps costume was jaw dropping amazing cinematic work and so funny! Big plans to pizza! Thanks for taking us along on the adventure❣
You need to either run blocking in mid span or stringer the bottom of your floor assembly 😅😮 plastic and gravel over the the dirt. Not sure how you plan to keep varmints from living underneath?
Safety First! We all love you guys. But several actions in this video could have gone badly. Eye protection! Glass, nails, splinters, etc. Concrete requires respirator use, forms require rebar. And I also believe your floor joist hangers are upside down and should support from the bottom. We love the progress and we are rooting for you. Be Safe!
I’m pretty sure you’re right about the joist hangers…and you’re right about everything else as well, except the forms, you don’t need rebar especially in Texas were there’s practically no frost.
OMG YES. Also, if they have natural gas lines anywhere on that property they should have called the utility company to come out and mark where all the pipes are. They do it for free and will put the little flags so you don't accidentally start digging into a natural gas pipeline or rupture a water main or drive a tractor over your septic tank.
I think the nail gun or whatever scares you because maybe you weren’t wearing safety goggles. Maybe a piece of the wood shaving could get in your eye. That’s the only thing I could think. 🥽😅
I feel like that was two days worth of work over a week from the last video, so I’m sure you guys make like three or four videos a week and by this point the house is already complete
I am overwhelmed and amazed by you folks. Do you have a background in this or are you just watching RUclips to learn? You seem to know what you’re doing but of course I have no idea how to do any of it but I’m still super impressed. I’m gonna go out and build me a house now watching you folks.

Have you considered putting screen down underneath the floor joists to keep the bugs scorpions from coming in?

As someone who does this kind of work for a living, I’m impressed with how well you did. I would have done a few things differently but great job overall.
Teamwork makes the dream work. OK, it's an old saying, but it's still true. Good progress ya'll.

BTW guys all your hangers are upsidedown. the joices are supposed to rest on them as they give additional support
I could be wrong but I don’t think the hangers are attached. I think they just stuck them on each joist for later installation. Maybe we’ll see for sure in the next video though.

Lol she said they weren’t attached yet otherwise she’d be walking on them. They were just sitting on top of the boards for the time being.
Iam happy you have wood and know what to do with it😮
Started following you because of your travels. Was not sure about this chapter..... you guys are awesome. Enjoying this project.
I have no carpentry or building advice, but I'm very impressed that you two are taking on this job!! 😊
OMG you guys I'm so excited about your show!!!! This is awesome, the tiny house is going to be so amazing!!! 🎉yeah, I was thinking the same thing .. he almost lost an arm there!
Nah
I am a retired builder...Great at building but crappy with programing computers. I have to give it to you for trying. I got a good laugh at you guys.
The amount of work you guys have already done is very impressive!
You tubers becoming contractors is my favourite transition
Both doing amazing! (Even if it does look like Alison is doing most of the work! 💪😂) Well done! (but please put a mask on when dealing with concrete, concrete dust is not good for the lungs) 👍
Next time rent a bobcat with tracks not tires. Also, once you breathe in concrete dust, it never leaves your lungs
Face mask/ respirator. Save them pretty lungs.
Nah
We’re loving your new series and know nothing about construction so won’t say what you’re doing wrong!😂 You’ve inspired us to start our own travel channel. 4 videos in and it’s so much fun. Thanks!

You guys are a hoot 😊😊. Good luck with the renovations, I can't wait for the final results.
The Chomps ad was so funny!!! I had a good chuckle
5 seconds to put on eye protection or a respirator Vs a lifetime without an eye or lung. Easy choice really.
Or they'll turn 50 and suddenly have garbage lungs and cancer because they exposed themselves to all this thinking it didn't matter.
Nah
@@jakehussey8957 stop commenting 'nah' on everything
I was blown away by how simple house framing is, mind you not easy but way less complex than i thought
Floor joists look solid so far! Can't wait to see it when it's all done!
Best sponsor video ever. Thank you for at least making it fun!
Awesome! You two are definitely not scared of big wood !
Wow, you guys work hard! I’m so impressed. Of course you’ll make mistakes, and learn from them, but at the end of the day you’ll have a beautiful home that you will be so proud of. Keep going! I can’t wait to see what you end up with.

Ps. Your ad segments are the only ones I can actually sit through fully! They are hilarious 👌👌👌
I know nothing about construction or building so I won't criticize what you're doing, though I hope you are working a little more safely than it appears. You all are brave for sure - I get nervous about even little projects around the house.
I didn't see any rebar in that shaft, you put some in right? I sure hope so if not, good luck with that!
That's what I was thinking also you need rebar for everything to set right. I hope they use rebar when they do the concrete slab
lol of course they didnt :D
My thoughts too ,not sure how long it will last without it.
So chomps is the new AG1. Cool. Get your money.
They probably should have put a couple in but they’ll most likely be okay for the most part with those 30” piers.
You are amazing, it,s a real pleasure to follow you, whatever you do. Found you when you bought Clementine and was amased of youre renovation. Like you I am an amateure and 70+ but I still want to do things by myself.

Allison and Eric my 2 favorite vloggers! You guys are great!
You need a little resting tent somewhere that has mosquito netting and no scorpions. Where you can put a cooler. Remember to enjoy ❤️❤️❤️
You guys are amazing😊 Thank you for showing it all, from the garbage clean up to the building process. I look forward to watching your progress. See ya next week❤
You both would make the perfect neighbors. 😊
Yay!!! Another one. I'm so looking forward to your house journey! Sending lots of good vibes to you Allison and Eric! ☀️💗🙂
I love Chomps because they are gluten free and grass fed beef! They are definitely worth the money.
Congrats to both of you for always trying to tackle even the hardest of jobs. Remember everyone makes mistakes, even pros, but they leave you with theirs to find later. Y' all can fix them as you make them. Good Luck on the tiny house!

You guys are really impressive!! Everything is looking awesome!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Wow you guys rock ! Great job tackling yet another project. Well done kids. 👊
This is really impressive, you guys! Well done! ❤🎉
Great progress guys 👍 best wishes from Britain 👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧

So freakin impressive how much you're able to get accomplished on your own

I love this! Can’t wait to see it complete
I feel like that was two days worth of work over a week from the last video, so I’m sure you guys make like three or four videos a week and by this point the house is already complete
Best commercial ever for chomps, I already buy them but that just made me want more😂. Thanks for the laughter 😃
I am loving this series!
Wear your safety glasses!
Yup
I am overwhelmed and amazed by you folks. Do you have a background in this or are you just watching RUclips to learn? You seem to know what you’re doing but of course I have no idea how to do any of it but I’m still super impressed. I’m gonna go out and build me a house now watching you folks.

Wow 🤩 I am really impressed. Keep it up. Can’t wait to see the full tiny house. Stay safe 😊
Wow you guys are moving along at a pretty good pace. Can't wait to see when y'all are done. Keep up the good work
Amazing work. So glad to see you guys building for the future in Texas!
"How hard can it be"? Famous last words lol! You guys got this.....well ya better cause we're all watchin lol 😜
I love you guys & think if you watched some diy deck, walls, pouring concrete footings videos, it would save you two from doing everything twice
Skid steers get way more traction. Especially when it inevitably rains
Good advice below!!! But, your energy and ambition is awesome!! Looking good!
Fn Awesome you guys! and you should start every video with Allisons jokes lmao
Thank you for the video & keep up the good work 👍🏻 slowly but surely just like the RV you'll get it done
What about putting rebar in the forms
Nice work guys. Looking forward to seeing the final product!
I'm happy to say that UK Chomps are entirely different beasts.... toffee covered with chocolate.
Though we do have similar meat sticks to yours.....under a different brand name.
Keep up the hard work chaps, you're doing great 👏🏻👏🏻
Y'all are doing a good job. Ignore the self righteous keyboard warriors. Thanks for sharing your journey.
I certainly wouldn't ignore the safety when mixing cement.
Often, people are couch coaches, but the cement with no safety equipment is no joke.
Theres nothing self righteous about basic site safety. Some extremely basic things just not being covered here. I was terrified when they started swinging the sledgehammer around without a second thought... Using a nailgun single handed? Not unless youre a pro and got a strong arm on you. Or its going to fly back and break your finger or hurt you somehow. The list goes on and on - if you actually read the comments, most are not keyboard warriors whatever that means - theyre offering real concern, and genuine feedback.
This was a great video. Love the bad hair day hat! 😅
When cutting or nailing, please wear your safety glasses. Hate to see an accident happen. Love your channel.
I'm really enjoying this adventure, look forward to every new video, its brilliant
Maybe a Bob Cat with tracks over the tires. Looks good! 😊
Hey y’all make sure you slope the dirt away from the house
Make sure you have a permit. You don't want to build something that you will be ordered to take down! I know someone who built their own tiny house, only to have to remove it due to town codes.
Love your videos!
In a lot of states like Texas and depending on the building i do not think you need permits and all that jazz.
@@ScottyBennitoneI would wonder if they’d still need something for insurance and resell down the road
It looks amazing! I can’t wait to see what you do next!!
You two are doing a good job building your tiny home. Next time you rent a bobcat try to get one tith tracks they do a better job.
You did a great job! Give yourselves a pat on the back.
So impressed you are both amazing great to watch. Looking forward to the next video 😊😊🏚🏚🏠🏠
