This song has been one of my personal favs for over 20 years, and this is by far the best arrangement/rendition of this deeply personal statement I have heard (...and I've heard hundreds of different singers' versions). The original was written with block chords...locking the singer into the phrasing of the chords, but the message of a heart aching to be open to love is amplified by the freedom of more open phrasing. Although one of Billy's best songs can stand on its own, Sara's pure voice and outstanding phrasing...combined with Josh's spectacularly tasteful support gently invites the listener to one of the soul's most vulnerable places. Kudos..and thank you.
Eh, not really. He’s trying to prove he’s a better piano player than The Piano Man, but I don’t think his flourishes and whatnot add to the song at all. Gazarek is offering a pretty stripped down performance, while the piano player is trying wayyyyyy too hard. Doesn’t fit at all.
If there is meaning in music, and a connection we are to draw in our lives from the tones and lyrics, this is a fine example of that. Someone knew of Billy Joel's song, and knew he had scribed it, unknowingly, for Sara Gazarek's voice. If there is a soul to be found in music, start here.
I love the sense of pause in this performance from Sara and Josh. That element alone disarmingly echoes nothing from our current over-stimulating culture and ultimately becomes its own offering to the illusive elixir of life. Thank you both for the moment of peace.
Memorable like few others. Heard it for the first time on Netflix 'After Life" which starts and ends each episode with a pertinent and sometimes touching piece of music art. This one grabs you by your inner heart.
This has been a great week for an old man. Through Spotify's Discover Weekly playlist that has me figured out to a T, with 30 songs and two hours including opera and classical, it introduced me to both the band Pink Martini and this lovely Sara Gazarek. Folks, it don't get better. Thanks life!
Just discovered you, so lovely. This is the only version of this song that I've found that matches, and maybe even surpasses, the emotion of the original. So many forgo the emotion for technicality.
Josh Is an absolutely brilliant pianist & his arrangement of this song is exquisite. I had a hard time hearing Sara. it seemed she almost swallowed some of the words she was singing. Its one of my favorite songs....so soulful & profound.
...an absolute 'dream' 'have been searching fot this version for quite a while..... Thank you Mr Billy Joel for the wonderful lyrics....... 'Queen' Marjorie-Amelia.... thanks
insanely good interpretation of one of Billy Joel's least known but best tracks he created. A lifetime of many emotions he has conjured up in his music and when he was asked why no more music he said I have nothing more to say. Billy was told in the same interview that Elton John said he could have done more albums and Billy quickly quipped back and said Elton could have done fewer. Touche to two kings/legends of rock and roll in my lifetime.
Sara & Josh are now entering the same league as Tony & Bill. The intimacy here is something rarely heard. Looking forward to many more years of their complicity.
This is beautiful, Sarah. I want to listen to it over and over again. And it's the best Billy Joel song (my favorite anyway). This speaks to me right now. Thank you. xo
This rendition is my favorite, of this song, and to date, of Sara's works. Her art builds and grows, both solo and in saje'. For me, this is my "Sara carry song", the one I keep with me at work, at home and in the dark days we have all suffered in the past two years. Imagining my life's gifts of loving the women in my life, apart from all of them, .. is captured perfectly in this song. Thanks, Sara. You make me believe in love every time I hear your voice carry this tune. The joy, the sorrow, ... and the private gift that love is to each of us. The remembering is borne out in the music far better than in our minds. Thank you, Sara! Leave this right here for me to visit in my moments of remembering, please. Oh, ... and thank Josh, for me and my mother, the pianist that buried music in my heart late at night when she practiced during her college studies.
I believe it is important to always remain grateful. I am, Sarah and Josh. I listen to this when I want to understand my life, and the love I have held and always will, for those whom I have loved, and will, always. It is a gift we willingly give, and which validate our hearts.

Stunning in every possible musical sense!! Just subscribed to both your channels. Look forward to discovering more of your wonderful music. My new favourite pianist.
Absolutely stunning!!! I can't stop listening to it! it's so beautiful and inspirational. I feel fortunate to have found this!! Going on to Itunes to see if I can buy her album.
This was ethereal! There’s no way Billy Joel could hold back a tear after hearing this! I was enraged at the sound of silverware hitting china. Even if those ruffians hadn’t eaten in a week, this performance should have transfixed them!
I saw Sara here last year. She didn't do this song. Josh wasn't playing. But her voice is always buttery! She is like a female Mel Torme. I hope she plays in CA again soon. Love you Sara!!!
7 Years later... still tears... this is what this song needed to be complete
Brilliant performance. From both. Hard to believe.
Even if this gets all the attention in the world, it would still be underrated.

Wise Dove how true, and perfectly articulated! ❤️
Agreed. This is my definitive version of the song by a mile
You know how to review important music.
So eloquently and knowledgeably stated..
This touches the deepest corners of my soul
Even that part in the back that's like impossible to reach?
The piano is heavenly arranged and very well played! Congratulations!

What a beautiful comment(so recognizable), would love to meet you one day!
Sublime! Thank you Sara & Josh.

I agree with Gary. (hello Gary!!) This was lovely from both Sara and Josh. xo
Absolutely beautiful. The only cover I have ever heard that does this song justice!
The Kings Singers is much more impressive. And as female singers go, Melissa Enricco’s cover is far more emotional and effective.
Memorable like few others. Heard it for the first time on Netflix 'After Life" which starts and ends each episode with a pertinent and sometimes touching piece of music art. This one grabs you by your inner heart.
I discovered this song again because of after life
My what this does for the soul , beyond words .

Sublime....this touched my soul and tears are running down my face
Just gorgeous! Sara could teach a master class in singing with feeling, something I struggled with when I was a younger singer.
So emotional-your voice is so beautiful Sarah

Josh Nelson's accompaniment is subtly brilliant.
