    Excellent synopsis... as a shameless fan-boi I honestly like both gens... the V8 in our GX is completely worthless offroad when youre going along at 3mph 😆... but I understand the desire for power. As you stated... with the V6 4runner you are guaranteed a million mile 4runner... that's a serious benefit....

    Enjoyed your video and opinions. The new 6th Gen is very cool and sure, I’d want one. Probably a Trailhunter. But…. I so want a 4Runner to start going on overlanding trips and camping. But I know that new 6th gen is just going to be too much money to start. So, I’m planning on looking for a 22’ or newer TRD ORP (Lunar Rock if I could). Now I just need the prices of the used 4Runners to tank! 😂. Looking to join the community someday, hopefully this fall. Go Hogs! (My daughter is a Masters Student there). Take care. -Chris🏔️🚙

    I just bought a 2024(last v6). So glad I did. This thing is AMAZING! Even the stock suspension is top quality and goes over bumps like it's butter. Hope I don't break these shocks. *knock on wood* I get head-turns all around. I mean some are probably looking at oncoming cars to cross the street,mine just happens to be one of those oncoming cars; tree huggers are just wondering why an idiot would pay for a gas guzzler;others are probably thinking that is a fking ugly 4x4, goodness; but in my head everyone is thinking, "damn look at that sweet ride." I just bought a 2024 TRD Off Road Premium 2 weeks ago. I bought it for all the reasons you listed but mostly because of the tried and true, naturally aspirated V6. I'm diggin it and so far have added some pretty cool, essential bolt-ons....rock solders, light bars, ditch lights, tinted windows, and a killer JL Audio stereo system with wireless Apple Car Play. Fisher-Price makes better stereos than Toyota! That was the first thing to go! :) I might go with the Old Man Emu BP51 and 33" Mikey Thompson Baja Boss tires, down the road once I wear out the stock tires. This is my 6th Toyota in 30 years of driving but my first 4Runner....I love it!

    5G is nice but the price for a 2010 vehicle coupled with the concerning crash test rating is a BIG no for me. I'd try my luck with the 6G, the powertrain I'm not concerned about, ultimately it's a Toyota and they're not cut from the same cloth as the other American off-road vehicle manufacturers.

    man u put a pulling cam in that V6 giving it some more lower end torque and HP to get on the freeway better maybe put a little higher compression piston in it and man it's got plenty of power ,,, and u don't need to drive a 4runner 120 down the road like they will run anyways.
    I know turbos break on diesel trucks and the cost to replace, and battery's cost a bunch too for a EV especially in 10 years when prices are even more higher. where a rebuild kit for the V6 is 200-800 bucks with new pistons and cam in it ....
    U can rebuild a 2010-2020 with engine , transmission , transfer case and front and rear ends for 4 grand off amazon , then some trd seat upgrades and bam its a new 4runner.
    the 6th gen has the 3.0 safety sense and a little bigger with EV woooo.
    5th gen is going to be hard to beat...
    they might be even more sought after due to smaller size & lower cost for maintenance & rebuilding in off road communities.

      I just saw the 6th gen in person and although the outside is bigger the interior room somehow looks smaller. I also think ground clearance as you mentioned looks less than the 5th gen. I'll just say right now from a mechanics perspective the sixth gen will suck and the customers are going to feel it in probably about 10 to 12 years or sooner if they don't keep up with maintenance when they blow up turbos and switch out battery packs its like a $12,000+ alone. Recommendation should you buy the 6th Gen is buy the extended warranty as long as you own it.

    I would not trade my fully built 4th gen with v8 for 5th or 6th gen. I imagine if I got a 6 gen with icon suspension and everything else I have done I would be approaching 90 thousand dollars. I would trade my ride for a fully built new one. The 5th would need to have lower gears to handle larger tires. I am sure the 6 gen will be more capable on running large tire’s than my v8.

    I've commented on your vids before, and you are spot on with this breakdown.
    I paid a horrific price for mine off the lot in 2022. (Chip shortage, and "market adjustments"). I wanted white, dealer said white is 9 months out. I waived color choice and ended up with the goofy green TRD Pro. (Yes, buying a Pro is stupid, I know. The "Fox" shocks with piggyback resi's arent even made by Fox, they are garbage. The fronts completely failed at 22k miles. Lesson learned.
    I went Dobinsons MRR on all 4 corners, 3" lift, and it seems to be what I would call a perfect mesh.
    I'm 52, this vehicle will live longer than I will, and I'd NEVER even think about the 6th gen. It's gonna take YEARS for true 4runner guys to even BEGIN to trust the motor in the 6th gen.

    I wish a trail hunter like trim was out when I bought my 22. Would have saved me a lot of time modding. As much as I like the new 4runner, I'd like to keep my 5th gen for at least another 10 years. Perfect vehicle for my needs

    The 5th gen is the best. I wish I could afford one. It looks better, it more capable and ofc more reliable. It's been here for like 15 years and still looks good and sought after. You don't even lose that much money with higher mileage for it either. I saw a 2011 with like 200k miles that's selling for 15k. Like it's worth it. Sure you could say it's sluggish or gas guzzler, but you don't buy a heavy car with a 4.0 v6 without considering the gas mileage. And if you do care about gas mileage for a huge car. Get a crossover or the new hybrids.

      Thanks for weighing in. Good points and with the problems the tundra hybrids have had I think the 4.0 might go down as the last of the indestructible Toyota engines.

    im coming from a 4th gen with the 4.7 and its 2wd and my issue is the lack of power with the 5th gen. the power of the new 4 cylinder turbo has my attention. im thinking 5th gen for a few years and wait and see how the new tacoma and 4runner fare with the new power plant. thanks for the video

    I could use some real world 4runner advice. My fam is considering nabbing one of these final 5th gens. Narrowed it down to the Offroad Premium, Offroad Premium with KDSS, or the TRDPro. Resale value is meaningful, though we do keep vehicles for the long term. Mostly on-road and light trail performance prioritized. No major offroading or modification intended at this time (perhaps mods in future), but we like to have serious get-out-of-a-jam capability just in case. How would you rate these three options?

    • @Wheel2LiveOffRoad
      @Wheel2LiveOffRoad  4 месяца назад

      If planning to suspension lift someday then I would stay away from KDSS. Just my .02 cents. I think some have had issues with lifting KDSS equipped trucks. If you are going for stock no mods and retaining the most value in time I would look the Pro in the special color. I have seen the new Terrra color in person and its one of my favorite special colors. The Pro in stock form just rides amazingly well with the Fox Shocks. However, if I were planning to build in the future I would just save the upfront money and build out a TRD Offroad Prem w/o KDSS. More options on colors as well.

    I bought a CPO 2023 ORP in Lunar Rock in February. Best decision ever. I was looking for a while and traveled 4 hours to a dealer that had exactly what I wanted. (I really wanted Lunar Rock ORP & a sunroof 😎). First thing I bought was some thick cargo liners for the cargo area and back of the rear seats. If you are on the fence….test drive one. The build quality is excellent.

    A good valid point of view. Admittedly I’m a little biased, having owned four different gens, including the latest. Personally, if they had combined the anytime 4wd system I had on my ‘08 sport, with some 5th gen changes, I’d be in heaven. 👍🤪🏳️‍🌈

    I couldn’t imagine a more riskier move than not choosing a time tested 5th generation 4Runner (which goes beyond just being time tested, it’s like the Heavyweight Champion of long term reliability)…to instead going with a first year rollout of a complete redesign. Well, I guess it doesn’t matter for people who only do a few years in a vehicle, then switch. However, even for those people, I hear that there’s an annoying space eating bulge in the cargo area of the 6th generation.

    • @Wheel2LiveOffRoad
      @Wheel2LiveOffRoad  4 месяца назад

      I just saw the6th Gen this weekend at a Toyota event and you are right about the cargo area. It is small by comparison. The seating volume in the front is similar but the rear looks tighter. Yes the 5th gen is one of Toyotas most reliable units ever produced and I suspect many will eventually see crazy longevity mileage numbers like the 4.7 tundras have produced.
