SHOULD A PERSON BUY A 2025 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER, I SAY NO, IF YOU WANT ONE THEN BUY A USED ONE WITH A 4.0L V6 BECAUSE AFTER 2024 TOYOTA IS NOT GOING TO MAKE THE 4.0L V6 ANYMORE, IN 2025 ALL TOYOTA 4 RUNNERS ARE GOING TO BE TURBO 4 CYLINDER.
@@Jason-Samko fair but the point is I paid $40k for my 2022 new, and if someone offered me $40k for it next year I’d have to say no because the 2025 will most likely cost me $50k. $10k to “upgrade” to a 4 banger.
I just did my 5,0000 mile service on my TRD off road premium. I paid for an oil change, I just can’t get on board with the 10,000 mile interval. I do miss my V8 2016 tundra, but she’s growing on me.
Don’t wait and do the 10K oil change. The first couple of oil changes with a new vehicle are the most important. I typically change my new vehicles oil at 500 miles. Then another one at 2,000 miles and a third at 5,000 miles. Then I do oil changes every 5,000 miles from that point on.
Great job on breaking it all down, i have a 2016 4runner trail with kdss, and I can not imagine having anything else. This truck still looks as good as the first day i bought her. Maybe even better since I've decked it out for overlandding. I've done a lot of camping trips with her, and yet i I'm still able to keep her looking newish. Japan knew exactly what they were doing when they built the 4runnner and the GX. I only wished that they would have come out with a better looking 6th gen. Love my 5th gen.
I love our 2 5th gens, Toyota would have an absolute all star if they would have just done a body and interior change and left the drivetrain alone. Part of the draw for me is the reliability which I don’t see staying as good with the newer ones.
I like the way you and anyone should think when you acquire or keep a vehicle. This vehicle will always have solid resale vs something else but it is rare air for anyone to make money cherry picking a purchase and holding and maintaining it over 10, 20, 30 years and making a real net return. The best proposition is if someone has $50k cash sitting around you’re better off most say investing that money. Those returns over the same periods are much better than any car. No matter how good or rare.
Man, Jason I wish I had an uncle like you that lived nearby who I could come over pick his brain and learn from hands on. A lot of the videos you post concerning specific problems with solution/ thought process are exactly the questions and things I am interested in. This is coming from a 1st generation American who never had anyone to teach him any practical/ mechanical skills in life. Just a word of thanks and encouragement to keep posting on the topics that you do; you never know who you are helping and encouraging. Keep up the good work Unc!
Found a 2023 CPO ORP in Lunar Rock in January after searching for a while. Had under 7900 miles. I jumped on it and I absolutely love it. Will hand it down to my son.
@@drez8242 It was $43k. The dealer played games and added $2500 for an extended warranty I didn’t want so I cancelled it. Had to drive 4 hours to get it but well worth it. Especially since it was Certified. I really wanted the Lunar Rock color and ORP WITH the sunroof. Only thing I wish it had was the trail camera. Love it though. Quality is unmatched.
The biggest difference on what the values will be between the fj and the 4runner is production numbers. There were only around 200k fjs produced for the US market from 06-14 and there are well over a million 4Runners. Just like everything else supply and demand dictates values.
@Jason-Samko thank you, I was expecting them to overload it with dealer accessories, as I hear the ones they have won't fit the 2025s so they are getting rid of them at a premium. Thankfully, it was stock aside from some LED interior lights.
I bought a new '20 SR5 Premium in white...and my wife has a '23 Tacoma TRD Off Road Premium in Lunar Rock. She bought it new right before the '24 Tacomas arrived. I have about 20k miles after 4 years and my wife has 5k miles after 10 months.
I just picked up my new 4Runner TRDORP on Saturday. It made more sense to me to buy a new one as the used hold their value so well that even with 30-40 thousand miles they were only about 5-7k cheaper. I also wanted to know that from day 1 she’d be taken care of and with a used vehicle, you just can’t do that. How was it broken in? What intervals did they change the oil? Did they do regular maintenance? Did they do scheduled maintenance? Too many unknowns for me.
Agree 100%. I've bought 3 used trucks and 37 new ones. I will not buy used again unless it's from someone I know personally. Or unless it's low miles with good history on record. All 3 were 50 to 100k miles and nothing but issues
I watched several 4Runner videos from the Car Care Nut and Automotive Press before choosing my first 24 Limited 4wd. The only question that will be answered in time is that the 22-24 models increased substantially due to inflation. I suspect that the values on these will drop to align more with the 19-21 model values. While we don’t buy cars as investments, it’s plausible to assume that these will depreciate more.
I just bought a new 4Runner this afternoon. I’ve done all my research for 6 months now and needed to get my hands on the fifth Gen 4.0 V6 and the used market here in Canada is absolutely pure insanity right now on 4Runners. Picking it up Saturday morning and cannot wait!! It’s like when I was a kid on Xmas Eve.
I picked mine on this past Saturday as well. I am in Toronto and picked it from Ottawa. Flew early morning on Saturday after paying a hefty some for Air Canada flight.
@@deanjohnston4073 used. From Bank Street Toyota. You must have seen that car while browsing. It was base 2018. I liked the fact that it was single owner car with ultra low km (85,000)
I’m keeping my 2021 Limited Nightshade edition. It’s my ninth Runner & I’ll never buy anything else. A totally reliable vehicle & they hold their value better than anything on the road.
Let me start by stating I bought & own a 2022 Tundra and because I seen first hand how Toyota cut corner IMO a brutal learning curve. So in January I bought (investment built to last forever!) a new 24’ TRD OffRoad 4 Runner AND I never gave them a second glance before (even they been out forever). My 24’ Runner is garage kept, put on very select mods, on a battery tender waiting for me to retire.
Great choice, I did the same in 23 because I was thinking the last year, proven platform. Love it we retire in 5 years. And I do my own maintenance. It’s my pre retirement vehicle.
@@ruckinehround6965 This quality platform is going away and something much cheaper and much more complex will replace it. When I retire in four years I luv to drive it all over out west maybe even to Alaska (probably never even have a trouble light come on). My one worry someone tries to steal it the older it gets. Not a big fan of Toyota’s labor rates…imagine Toyota tells you they need to take the cab off your truck to fix it $$$$$$.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. I betting these skyrocket when the new ones hit the lots and the yourubers (myself included) start talking about the prices of the new ones
I just bought mine last week, and it only had 4 miles on it when it was delivered to me. I used a car broker, and it was the easiest transaction I ever had. I didn't even have to mess with a dealership. I bought the SR5 premium because it had the exact features I needed on it. You basically have to take what they have right now, and you can't be super picky about color, etc... mine is white, 4WD, and came with the blackout package and the TRD wheels on it. I also got it for $1,500 under invoice.
I just bought a 2024 SR5 Premium yesterday, and I'm going to pick it up Monday! I can't wait! I originally wasn't planning on purchasing one anytime soon, but I don't like the new body styles on the 6th gens, and I worry about engine performance... Glad I got one while I still could.
So glad I dumped the current Tundra for my new and reliable 2024 SR5 Premium. I almost expect when I go in for my service (tires rotation and oil changes that the dealership would want to buy it back. Like my 2021 Tundra during Covid.
My 2004 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6, I bought in 2019 with 119K miles. Got a steal of a deal because the person thought the rims were flaking off and a scratch on a fender made it not worth as much. I bought it for $7K. Now 164k mile on the odometer no problems just maintenance. , i bought factory refurbished rims on eBay for $425 put on with AT tires. I don’t mind the scratch on the fender added a couple more going down forest service roads. I Have driven across country on vacation several times it’s a Daily driver and not once have needed to add oil between oil changes. Plan on driving to at least 300K miles then selling it for about what I gave. Now I’m saving for that future 5th gen I plan on buying around 2030-2035 when the best deal appears
Made the investment decision and went in on a new 24 TRD Pro just last week in Terra. I actually got around 3500 off sticker, so the deals are out there, just be patient, and be willing to drive if you’re in places like SoCal where these go with a dealer markup. Like it so far, only regret was getting rid of my 22 TRD OR Tacoma 6MT to get it. If I could have kept them both, I would have.
@@MMSJ49 got AutoNation in Austin to match an end of month price I had found in Houston. I had started dealing with them about 2 weeks before, going back and forth waiting for the truck to arrive, so it wasn’t a quick process. Coming from shopping around in San Diego, I was admittedly shocked they took the deal.
This is a mass produced vehicle. The number of these out there is insane, even on the second hand market. Perhaps they might hold their value better than other used vehicles, but I don't see them shooting up in value for these reasons.
Whoa 😱 I know they exist, but I've never actually seen a non-Premium 5th-gen 4Runner TRD OR before. They're surprisingly difficult to find info about. I picked up my '24 ORP in Underground new this past February. Stock. The only add-on is the MTM and the cargo liner. $49k OTD in Michigan. I love it. My only two issues are (1) I wish there was more takeoff speed because it's very slow to accelerate, and (2) the backseat folded down aren't flushed because there's like a 3" drop into the trunk space. Unless, if you have the pullout tray. But, aside from those two things, I love it.
I placed deposit on one a couple of weeks back for a TRD Premium that's in transit. There's really not many new ones around and on the lots at least in my area of NC. The dealer had a dozen or so in transit and all of them already ha deposits on except the one I placed a deposit on. I think it's a testament to these vehicles as most people would wait for the new model and the outgoing would be sitting on the lots, but not the case with these. There seems to be a bunch of used ones on the market, but at close to new prices in most cases, or at least with the more desirable packages.
I bought my wife a new 4runner (pro - lime rush) a couple of years ago. It was her first non mom car in over 20 years. She loves it - she only has 23K miles on it and it is such a solid vehicle. She is thinking about getting a new vehicle but we will probably keep it. I have had several Tacomas - bought a 23 Tacoma (Pro - solar octane) only because I was afraid of the turbo. I put 250k on my 19 Tacoma and it was flawless. As much as I like the Tacomas, the 4runner is in a different league. ** I just bought an 06 4Runner (V8) with only 84K miles...one owner 4x4 Sport. I paid 16K , put on a timing belt, water pump, plugs wires, etc...sold out to my daughter for 10K...it should last her for many, many years.
I bought a technically new 2023 4Runner Limited with 11K miles from Toyota that was used as a sales rep car. Sold as new, but with $8K off MSRP. Was an awesome buy.
I test drove a brand new 2024 Land Cruiser FE yesterday morning. For the money, I was not impressed at all. Technology was great. But the ride quality was massively lacking. On my way home later in the day, I saw a 2023 4Runner Limited sitting on the side of the road with a for sale sign in the window. It had 4400 miles on it. Looked absolutely brand new. My wife and I had it out for a test drive within two hours of me spotting it. The ride quality compared to the LC was striking. The 4Runner rode so much better. I was shocked. We thought about it overnight. We made a deal this morning. Pick up scheduled for tomorrow.
I think your right. However, we are in a depression so I think there's more going to be comming to market. Not everything has unwinded yet and intrest rates need to go up or level out. There may be a window of time where vehicles become reasonable b4 going up again. If it's your dream car then there is no wrong.
4runner sells as many in 2 years as the FJ did in 9 years. The price of legacy 4runners isn't going to appreciate but for absolute chaos in 6th gens. Buying one and keeping it crazy low mileage may make it an outlier in 10 years but there are too many on the road for it to appreciate notably
I disagree. I expect the current 4 runner value to jump huge as soon as the 6th gen hits the lots and the 5th gens are are sold out. But time will tell
@@Jason-Samko I'm skeptical. I think it's all tied to bigger macro picture. The 4runner is a legend and it shows in the longevity study that just came out but there are a ton of them on the road. All hinges on how well the new generations end up fairing. An ugly start for sure but lots that could impact in fuel prices, alternate fuel developments (long way to go but lots of runway to prove themselves). Probably fair to say they'll keep depreciating at a slow rate but a smart market knows they're going away and there's no reason to believe prices of them used rise but for actual inflation.
There is two wheel drive, all wheel drive, and the Limited is the only trim with full time 4 wheel drive (and real leather). I bought the 2024 4Runner Limited (Nautical Blue Metallic), $58k out the door, paid cash. The 4Runner is not staying in stock. They sell the minute they hit the dealer. They are definitely near the end of the 5th Gen. Glad to have mine.
I love my Limited… I know it’s not the TRD off road 4 wheel system but let’s get real… 80% of us are not bouldering. However, the All wheel center diff system is found on the Land Cruiser and Gx460… so it’s pretty fukin awesome.. I’m getting 17” wheels with KO2s for winter or off road adventures… still get me up the mountain!!!
Can’t go wrong buying a light used & well maintained 4R or a lexus gx460. Def some of the best vehicles ever made. LC200 or LX570 should be looked @ too if you can afford it! If you’re in a northern climate it’s nice having the full-time 4wd!!
I only have a couple more payments left on my 2019 tundra. I'm looking at used 4Runners for my second car found one that has the Magnuson supercharger already in it pretty cool
did my first oil change at 1300 then another one just over 5k. 2024 SR5 4x4. Want it to last 20 years. Definitely wont be suckered into the 10k oil change interval so that the manufacturer and dealership can suck money out of me with $$$$ repairs. 5k oil changes only
I dont doubt that prices will go up with the 5th gen 4Runner and 3rd gen Tacoma. The new ones while they look good are flawed. Suspension issues, 4 cylinder turbo engine that needs lots of field hours to see how reliable is. I got no doubts on the hybrid system as Toyota has been doing it for years, but there is no doubt they cut corners in other specs of the new gens. Toyota Landcruiser 200 series is another one that if you have the money get one while you can.
Tina said that about our 23 ted off road too. She said in 15 years we can give it to our grandson. I said no "if 15 years we can sell it for 50k and buy him something less expensive..lol"
Been thinking to sell my 21 4r trd pro last few years. However it seems like its a keeper. Under 20k miles currently. Should hold or increase value over next few years.
I have a 17' ORP, bought in 2019 with 30k miles, I'm at 130k today. Great truck. Super reliable. I've changed all the fluids at 100k. 2 sets of pads and rotors all around, spark plugs and air filters done, also a new battery at 80k. Oil change and drive line lube every 5-7k. Still drives like a beast. Multiple road trips every year with the family. This thing will get to 300k easily.
I have a 2012 SR5 2wd with 110k. I am considering selling to find a Lexus GX470 or GX460 circa 2012-13. Just wanting a 4wd and seems these are cheaper than 4Runners around the same age.
I sold my 2016 4runner sr5 premium about 2 months ago for $25k. It had 65k miles on it and it was in fair condition, some scratches and a dent, interior was pretty rough due to my 3 dogs walking all over everything. I then bought a 2024 4runner limited in the underground color and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I am going above and beyond to take care of this one and am hoping that in 5 years it is still in close to perfect condition and will be worth the original msrp of $53k or more. Especially if inflation continues and the price of a new 4runner that no one wants is 60 something k for similar trim level.
@@Jason-Samko I worked at a toy dealership in 18-20. The majority of 5th gen runner owners, repeat buyers complained about the window controls being on the top of the door card and not lower like the 4th gen. I heard it over and over again. Most said they would go back to the 4th gen that they traded if had the choice. All that time I was looking for the good 5th gen to trade on 4th in on.
Hi Jason, great review. I've been researching the 4Runner and I see A LOT of them are from rental companies. What are your thoughts on rental purchases?
I won't buy a rental vehicle if I can avoid it. Heard so many horror stories. But the 4 runner is one vehicle that is built to take the abuse and is probably still fine. But the idea of 700 other people driving it hard and the bare minimum maintenance done does worry me a bit.But. and the resale value will drop tremendously if the car fax shows it was a rental vehicle
On my second 2 runner - 2024 SR 5. Still have my 2011 limited and if i dont sell it, my daughter gets it. They are like roaches... they're everywhere and you can't kill them!
I traded in my 2020 Blazer for my 2021 XP Runner with a little over 30,000 miles on it. We test drove a 2025 with all the luxuries. It was very very nice but the XP STAYED on my mind. I'm glad I decided against getting a 2025. The Runners and Jeep Rubicons were my dream trucks. I'm keeping my Runner 4 ever, Lord Willin'.
I’m waiting at least 5-6 years before even considering a 6th gen. I am extremely relieved that they are still manufacturing them at the same plant in Japan. I don’t think Japan will allow their bread and butter baby to drop in quality even with all of the newer technology. I have a 2015 TRD Pro that I will never sell even if i need to replace the entire powertrain which I will do if the time comes. I think the Japanese will find a way to make this new 6th gen last as long or maybe longer than the 5th gen. The quality difference from the Tacoma to the 4Runner is astronomical even with the 3rd and 5th gens respectively. I think that same quality with the 6th gen will continue. The Japanese are too proud to let their masterpiece go down the shitter
Toyota is such a disaster right now that anything thats new the previous model increase in value ,the older tundra's shot up ,the previous tacoma is 39k ,the upcoming 4runner will suffer the same fate as the tacoma ,even on the lexus side, going from a 2023 gx460 to a brand new gx550 is a stepdown, the interior is cheap and the engine.
RAV4, Camry, Highlanders, Corolla are all doing well. The first generation of any brand sucks and glitches have to be worked out, once the glitches are cleaned up, they will be fine. My biggest concern is the outrageous prices for any of the new vehicles being introduced, regardless of the brand.
4Runners at the moment are the only Toyota that is assembled and QC'd in Japan - just be careful about what the pricing shows online - they will add mandatory add-ons then port-installed add-ons and list it as "TSRP". You will need to make lots of calls to find a dealership that is willing to let you drop the port installed options (PIOs). Even with a base model SR5 , tax, title, license, your OTD will be over $50k
@totalnoobfishing1753 current land cruiser is Japan made as well. But your right dealing with toyota add ons and thier stupid allocation only buying sucks
I own 2 brand new 2024 TRD ORP underground clean titles. 106k out the door. Look what happened to the FJ after production ended. I actually want to buy a third one now. Email me if you want to see pics. Love these trucks!! Sweet as black strap molasses!! A 2025 4 banger turbo electric motor golf cart is a gift to those that own a 5th gen as prices on the 5th gen WILL rise faster than a home-sick angel...
I just bought a 2024 ORP in Underground, loving it so far and will be keeping it for a long time. I definitely agree with you, the 2024 4Runner is the last of the old Toyota (the Toyota everyone loved). It’s the end of an era and it’s the last chance to get a new version. The Gen 5 has been perfected for 15 years, it’s the culmination of slight improvements year after year. The demand for them will definitely go up as soon as Toyota releases the new MSRP for the 2025s, expect $50k base and going up to possibly $75-$80k for the TRD Pro. You also have to factor in inflation, money today is not worth as much as it used to be. A $30k 4Runner 5-10 years ago is now a $50-$60k 4Runner. It’s just going to continue to get more expensive, might as well lock one down now while you still can. The longer you have your 4Runner the higher the possibilty that you’d be able to sell it for exactly what you paid for it (or more). Like the FJs you mentioned, $30k new, fast forward 10 years and you can sell it for $30k+ and essentially have had a free truck to use for 10 years (minus any potential interest/dividends/growth you would have made if you had just parked that $30k in the market). When I was shopping for a 4Runner I went to at least 12 different dealerships. They all had a few things in common: 1) The last remaining 2024 4Runners were flying off the lots. They couldn’t even keep them on the lots (unless there was a dealer mark up on them). Most of the 4Runners, mine included, didn’t even sit for a day on the lot. I had reserved mine, it got delivered in the morning, went through pre-inspection, and then I drove it home in the afternoon. 2). The dealerships had only a few more allocations of 4Runners coming for the entire rest of the year. I had an internet manager send me their entire allocation sheet for the rest of 2024, there were about 6 more 4Runners coming… that’s it. I’m pretty sure it’s like that everywhere. As production is likely only manufacturing the last of the 2024s what’s left on lots is all there is. 3). The dealerships I went to all complained about low inventory. Word from Toyota to dealerships was to expect little to no inventory for awhile, slow allocations across the board. One Dealship I was at didn’t even have a Camry or Corolla on the entire lot. 4). Despite having almost no inventory, they all had literally dozens and dozens of 2024 Tacomas and Tundras. One dealership had two 4Runners and 27 Tacomas. The sales rep there said they couldn’t move the Tacomas, no one wanted them! 😂.
I'm on my 4th 4Runner. Dated? Ask the 70,000-100,000 Tundra owners with Turbo V-6 that are subject to RECALL. NEW ENGINES WILL BE INSTALLED! NO TRADE-INS ALLOWED ON UN-RECALLED TUNDRAS! I was smart by buying TWO 5th Gen 4Runners BEFORE they got the 2.4L Turbo. My first 4Runner, a 1986, had a 118hp 2.4L 4 Banger. Not going back to 4cyl.
Is it just me or do you also prefer the 4th gen to the 5th in terms of internal “feel”, body roll, engine noise, transmission noise? It just gives me a Chevy Tahoe feel. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of other pros but the 4 just gave a better vibe driving it. My 3 were/are all Limited models.
I have very limited time in a 4th gen and never owned one. The one I was in was a rental and was very nice! But never took it offroad or anything just around town and the the airport.
I've owned 3 Rubicons, but am wanting to switch it up to a 4Runner. A few dealers have told me the same thing...the 5th gen will end going up in value b/c of the tried and true V6, among other things.
I can only find one black TRD PRO and they want $1k over msrp. There is a TRD off road used for $14k cheaper with only 5k mi. Not sure what I should do as I don’t love buying used. Thoughts?
I just got a 2024 TRD Off Road Premium and I'm expecting it to hold its value and possibly increase for a while. Won't matter much unless wife ends up hating it enough to make me trade it -- she will be the primary driver.
We don't know yet if the 6th gen will be reliable or not because no one has one yet. Toyota has been able to make a great 4runner for 5 generations. Why wouldn't they be able to keep doing the same thing? The theory that they just "forgot" how to make reliable vehicles does not make sense.
@@javilink7 too much tech and a 4 cylinder turbo. It will be a great suv. But it won't have half the longevity of the current one and will be plagued with more problems. It's a simple numbers game. More tech more problems. Smaller motor with a turbo less life.
You can't judge a new 4 runner online reliability and by far more power and torque plus all the new convenience of technology not to mention 1/3 better fuel economy and that new engine is not complicated as you say it is. So you can't judge a new toyota engine when it's to early to say anything
Nothing about the 4 runner is new anymore. It's out in both the taco and the land cruiser. And I'm not knocking it. I'm saying it's not the same as the old on or has the advantages of the old one many people want. Many people will want the new one. But on the flip side many will not and demand for the old teued true and proven simplicity of the last gen will be high sought after
2020 is when they started doing the frame joint coating I believe. But even the models before thst were great as long as you treated it eith fluid film or similar once a year.
All of the older Toyotas are great buys. I’m never selling my 1st gen. 4x4 Taco. 4runners are also great. I’m thinking about purchasing a mid-90’s Hilux diesel before prices get silly.
You may be correct but depends on what might be a failing economy too. Car market could collapse big time. That’s a negative view though. 4 runner will still most likely hold better value
I needed a truck during the pandemic and found a 2020 with 4800 miles for $41000. During that time that same was going for $47000+ at a toyota dealership for a base model 4x2 in Austin. I went to buy that and he said it was 55k because of the markup. I bought the 41k used one...from carmax of all places. At the time an amazing deal. I already gave it to my son in college. He has put only 7000 miles on it. Basically its not even broken in. I told him when he wants to get rid of it, to give it back to me and i'm gonna overland it. I love that 4runner...and yes I know prices have dropped but at the time, that was the price. it is what it is.
@ABach-ld2oc yep amazing truck and those were brutal times to buy during the pandemic 75% of buyers then (or something close to that) are still upside down now.
@@Jason-Samko 100% agree, but it won't even be broken in (at my son's current rate lol) for at least 10 years. I literally have my lifetime (i'm 54) to enjoy it.
lol I bought a new 4Runner pro and parked in my garage. Sucks but I’m trying to keep it mint for next year and maybe selling it next year. 2025 runners might not be available. Lots of problems to work out from using the same Tacoma engine.
The last bugs of the 5th gen 4runner were worked out in the 2024 model. If you count 2009, when you could first buy the 5th gen, even though the official release year was 2010, and 2025 when you know you can still find the last few 2024 models still on some lots, it will mean the 5th gen was available brand-new spanning 17 different years. And, it will be missed, and it will go up in price. I think it's the land rover's last good year that's really starting to shoot up in price. The same will happen to this year's 4runner. I wish I could buy 20 and place them in storage.
@@Jason-Samko I traded a perfect 3rd gen DC LB ORP (hard to find inferno color) on my 4Runner. I wish now I had kept it and just bought the 4Runner outright.
I hope they become a bit cheaper when the new model comes out, but maybe the new one will push prices up. I had a 4thGen, which was taken from me. I can’t get it back, but I hope to get a 4Runner before they become retro classics.
Id like to try 4Runner, but only 30 percent of the way to million mile on 08 Sequoia legendary V8. Probably just buy another used Sequoia 2nd gen in a decade. These new Yotas icky

Love the 4runner. Sadly the 5th gen might be the last of the reliable Toyota 4x4 legends.

Thanks Jason, with the 5 Gen being the last Japanese V6 engine, I believe you are correct!

Most of us owners could care less about the value because we’re not selling them. Can’t get anything to replace it at that price point.
Maybe. For me vehicles are commodities and money always wins.
I do miss my V8 2016 tundra, but she’s growing on me.
very smart! I do the same. I always change the oil at 1k on a new truck them again at 5k and every 5k after. I would never go 10k on a oil change.
It's a lie don't do 10k. I always do 5k oil change my dealer here never said anything about 10k .

Agree 100 they buit it well! Glad you are loving yours too
I love our 2 5th gens, Toyota would have an absolute all star if they would have just done a body and interior change and left the drivetrain alone. Part of the draw for me is the reliability which I don’t see staying as good with the newer ones.
I’ve had my 2016 since new. It’s so reliable. I love it. Checks all the boxes for me forget these new ones

Keeping my ‘21 sport 4x4. 15k miles and rock solid.

Time will tell but I'm betting the values will blow up. Just like the 3rd gen taco is and like the fj did

My 24’ Runner is garage kept, put on very select mods, on a battery tender waiting for me to retire.
Sucks about the tundra but maybe a blessing in disguise as you were able to get the last true toyota truck ever made

Opinion on SR5 with 100k miles plus good buy?
Depending on price but sure is a great truck and capable of going 200k more
I just bought a 2024 ORP in Underground, loving it so far and will be keeping it for a long time.
All great points and great info. Thanks for taking the time to write it
Looking at a used on and the prices are crazy!!😀

I was smart by buying TWO 5th Gen 4Runners BEFORE they got the 2.4L Turbo.
My first 4Runner, a 1986, had a 118hp 2.4L 4 Banger.
Not going back to 4cyl.
@@geraldf.1222 such a great suv
Is it just me or do you also prefer the 4th gen to the 5th in terms of internal “feel”, body roll, engine noise, transmission noise? It just gives me a Chevy Tahoe feel. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of other pros but the 4 just gave a better vibe driving it. My 3 were/are all Limited models.
I have very limited time in a 4th gen and never owned one. The one I was in was a rental and was very nice! But never took it offroad or anything just around town and the the airport.
I didn't qualify for a 2024 TRD PRO in Underground so, I just went with a 2020 Gx450 with 30k mi. Money well spent 😊
i love 4runners, but should i get 2016 limited /one owner with 98K or new Subaru crossTrack for 27 K....?

@Jason Samko: My 2024 TRD ORP should be here in 3-4 weeks. Can’t wait.
You are gonna love it
I've owned 3 Rubicons, but am wanting to switch it up to a 4Runner. A few dealers have told me the same thing...the 5th gen will end going up in value b/c of the tried and true V6, among other things.
@@traveller81 yep.

I can only find one black TRD PRO and they want $1k over msrp. There is a TRD off road used for $14k cheaper with only 5k mi. Not sure what I should do as I don’t love buying used. Thoughts?
@@MrKingJavo tough call. Both sound great.
I just got a 2024 TRD Off Road Premium and I'm expecting it to hold its value and possibly increase for a while. Won't matter much unless wife ends up hating it enough to make me trade it -- she will be the primary driver.
Congratulations on an amazing new truck
We don't know yet if the 6th gen will be reliable or not because no one has one yet. Toyota has been able to make a great 4runner for 5 generations. Why wouldn't they be able to keep doing the same thing? The theory that they just "forgot" how to make reliable vehicles does not make sense.
@@javilink7 too much tech and a 4 cylinder turbo. It will be a great suv. But it won't have half the longevity of the current one and will be plagued with more problems. It's a simple numbers game. More tech more problems. Smaller motor with a turbo less life.
In the Pacific Northwest it seems cheaper to buy a new one rather than a used one. The current used prices are nuts.
Same everywhere. Values of these are jumping up
You can't judge a new 4 runner online reliability and by far more power and torque plus all the new convenience of technology not to mention 1/3 better fuel economy and that new engine is not complicated as you say it is.
But on the flip side many will not and demand for the old teued true and proven simplicity of the last gen will be high sought after
Which generation 4Runner had frame rust problems?
2020 is when they started doing the frame joint coating I believe. But even the models before thst were great as long as you treated it eith fluid film or similar once a year.
All of the older Toyotas are great buys. I’m never selling my 1st gen. 4x4 Taco. 4runners are also great. I’m thinking about purchasing a mid-90’s Hilux diesel before prices get silly.
@@vltruan agree 100
You may be correct but depends on what might be a failing economy too. Car market could collapse big time. That’s a negative view though. 4 runner will still most likely hold better value
I love my 2018 5th Gen SR5 Premium 💪🏾😎💪🏾
awesome truck

Yep if the 25 is delayed to 26 and there is no production of thr 5th gen in 25 the value of good used 5th gens will soar as well
The last bugs of the 5th gen 4runner were worked out in the 2024 model.
Well said and agree
I own a 2024 ORP. I don’t think the value will go up. They made too many of these trucks. Well over 1 million.
@timalan7406 they made many more 3rd gen tacos and their value is going up fast.
