    You should look into Dr. Ellie Phillips. She was a practicing dentist for 40 years and has a lot of information on Xylitol and using it. I believe in her "old age" she founded and now runs a Xylitol company because of the dental benefits. From her I learned there are studies going back to the 1970s that show the wonders of Xylitol and dental health. She's written several books and is here on RUclips.

    Isn't it interesting that in Europe, they have used xylitol for decades? Yet in the US, not a peep. My hygienist never mentioned xylitol until AFTER I informed her that I started using it after meals. THEN she became very knowledgeable about its benefits and how it prevents caries. What a joke of a dentist and hygienist... I am disgusted that they don't tell people about it because they would lose CASH$$$$$ and patients...
    How wonderful would it be that children never got a cavity their entire childhood? How financially freeing would less dental work be?

  • @knoxlowe1

    I've used xylitol for 15 or 20 years and it's fabulous! But, a couple of cautions. First, start with a lower dose and work up to the 5 or 6 grams per day over a month. The reason is that too much can upset your stomach and cause diarrhea. It's not harmful in any way... just start slow. The other caution is to be sure that the xylitol that you are using is 100% sourced from the US and made from birch trees. The xylitol sourced from China has been reported to sometimes be contaminated. Finally, instead of gum, I put it in my coffee, which I sip all morning. Then, I switch to iced tea in the afternoon with xylitol. Then, after brushing in the evening, I enjoy a xylitol mint before bed. Last thing... I used to have pockets in my gums that were 4 or 5 deep. They are completely gone. I use CloSYS before brushing to adjust the pH in my mouth, then brush, then Listerine Cool Mint. And, as mentioned, sip on xylitol most of the day.

    • @brienq
      @brienq Год назад +1

      When you say "cleans out the bowels" do you mean causes diarrhea, because that's what it sounds like. I suppose that can beneficial at times for those backed up and is dose dependent, but for most "regular" people or those with IBS (irritable bowel) having frequent loose bowels, if this exacerbates that and causes additional weight loss that can mean loss of lean mass and malnutrition, meaning your also not absorbing essential nutrients and protein. Over time this leads to poor health, degeneration, sickness, so I would advise people to be cautious about the laxative properties and not overdo that intentionally to lose weight. In the past people used laxative dieter's teas, like Laci La Beau and some people died of cardiac failure from loss of potassium as an electrolyte needed for a proper heart beat. Laci LaBeau was even sued for causing the death of many people by promoting a laxative for weight loss. In fact this is a common cause of death for those with anorexia who intentionally abuse laxatives to lose weight.

    Hopefully helpful story. Heard about xylitol 10 + years ago, made some molasses cookies using it instead of sugar, made a double batch no regular sugar at all. When they were done and cooled I ate one, it was delicious and I ate 3 more. About an hour and a half later I was pretty much stuck to the locale of the bathroom for 2- 3 hours. The amount of xylitol, of which I had no prior experience, cleaned me out. Other than depleting my supply of TP, there were no long term ill effects. I have been making my own nasal spray for awhile now, and was very pleased to hear the many benefits involved in with it's use. Very curious to find out if the anti-plaquing of dental film carries over to other aspects of plaquing elsewhere in the body. Thanks so much for the info.

    I bought xylitol a few months ago to use instead of sugar on top of some pastries I make, but my kids noticed the difference. When substituted for sugar in icing I also noticed a difference, it made it a bit lemony in taste. That is not to say - don't buy it, by all means do, but it tastes slightly different than sugar, but still better than stevia and it's white. Most people will not notice the difference, I think.
    My kids also like minty toothpaste and they don't like sweet and jelly-type kind, so when I added xylitol to their minty tooth powder they noticed it's sweet so we've been using Italian remineralizing mint toothpaste for a few months but will try with the powder mixed in with xylitol again. I always use fluoride-free toothpaste for them since they were babies and toothpaste with xylitol in it, but they had some cavities still, so I think the amount of xylitol they put in this Polish Ziajka brand toothpaste wasn't enough, I don't know. That's why I try the Breylee tooth powder with mixed in xylitol. I don't mind using powdered xylitol on it own - put a tiny bit in my mouth and swish around after meals, I haven't tried that with my kids as I thought they will not like it.
    So strange, isn't it, that my kids don't like what most kids prefer in toothpaste products. Especially my 8yo is a fan of mint. As toddlers, they were so obsessed with their white Ziajka toothpaste that they will not use ANY OTHER TOOTHPASTE AT ALL. I always had to buy in bulk and keep an eye to always order on time, or else they will not brush their teeth with anything else. Finally, they accepted Breylee tooth powder which is made with pearl essence and I think mint and xylitol as well but I no longer have an outer packaging, so don't know for sure as it is not written on a plastic jar what the ingredients are. I like this product a lot, it brightened my teeth, it lasts forever and it foams so well and I can add even more xylitol to it.

But I haven't used pure xylitol in enough volume to know if it will cause that. Dr. Ellie has had no issues with her patients that use ONLY xylitol. Another way you can use xylitol is "pulling". Traditionally (in Ayurveda) pulling was done with oil. Xylitol pulling is said to be even more effective (I've been doing it for a week, and my teeth certainly feel extremely clean from doing it, though too soon to know the outcome in terms of my gum disease). You put a teaspoon of granulated xylitol in your mouth and swish it throughout your mouth, pulling it between the teeth, for 10 minutes. Sometimes gargle for a bit during this time. Then spit it out, and some say after that to rinse your mouth. Less xylitol would be absorbed than from chewing gum and swallowing.

    Since about 20% of the population has irritable bowel (IBS) can anyone who has IBS give feedback about how xylitol might have impacted this condition by causing increased gas, bloating, or diarrhea? Many IBS sufferers have to avoid FODMAPS foods which includes indigestible polyols like xylitol, but each polyol (sorbitol, erythritol, mannitol, xylitol) can have varying degrees of digestibility or the ability to be absorbed. For example, erythritol is well absorbed for most people up to 30 or so grams.

"When ingested at high doses, xylitol and other polyols may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, including flatulence, diarrhea, and irritable bowel syndrome (see Metabolism above); some people experience the adverse effects at lower doses.Xylitol has a lower laxation threshold than some sugar alcohols but is more easily tolerated than mannitol and sorbitol.

    I have nerve pain in mij hole face and my experience is that fluoride is a trigger for the nerves, and therefore can’t be good.

    I think most mass produced xylitol comes from corn? Not trusting it 100% yet. Maybe for oral health but a bit nervous about taking internally for long periods. Especially with gut issues.

    Thank you for this 🙏 I just saw the video and subscribed. I have periodontitis and can now see the root of 5 out of my 6 frontal bottom teeth as my gum there is really thin! I think from traumatic brushing.
    I have heard in the video that Xylitol can help with the periodontal bacteria. Could it help to thicken/regrow the gum? Is it too late?
    I was looking for the other podcast with Laura Hopper about the periodontal issues and use of Xylitol, referred to in this video, but I couldn’t find it. Could you please indicate where I can find it? Thank you so much 🙏🌹

    Well, how does xylitol affect the enzymes / bacteria in your nasal passages, that contribute to the production of Nitrous Oxide?

    Xylitol is deadly to dogs!! I lost my 60lb boxer after he ate only half a pack of gum. I get that it's a useful product, but it should come with a warning!

    • @ediewall6360

      I am sorry for your loss. Peanut butter with xylitol has killed many dogs. There are not warnings out there. We must self educate and share with others. There are no warnings on grapes either. Grapes create kidney disease in dogs, slowly over time. I had one die of this. Horrible. And vets are poisoning pets withnvaccines!!,

    • @lizziek1229
      @lizziek1229 10 месяцев назад

      @showbread9366 no need to. He had a seizure around 30 minutes after eating the gum. Took him to the emergency vet and they treated him for the sudden drop in his blood sugar caused by the xylitol. Over the next 36 hours I paid over $6000 for him to have multiple plasma transfers but ultimately we couldn't save him. This was 100% a result of him getting into that gum. And since the majority of xylitol is present in the coating of the gum, inducing vomiting would have done nothing because it had already been absorbed. Xylitol is a DEADLY product that should come with a WARNING!!!!

    i knew about xylatol. 20 years ago in finland its given to children in tablet form after lunch , to prevent toothdecay i also use it as a sweatner in pies ie apple crumble with 50% sugar so that i keep my family weight down . its made from birch tree syrop just like maple syrop the mystery is over , if u go to the forest with the right implements u could get it for free , it is rather expensive to replace sweet.....
