      i watched a debate he had with bill o'reilly back in bush era, and while he was more lighthearted then, he was just as quick on his feet. he was also willing to concede where he's been out-argued on a point, which, frankly, i believe is a sign of maturity lol.

      Gun control is the easiest argument to destroy conservatives in because all they have backing them are a couple of sentences in the Constitution, depending on a purist interpretation of the second amendment, which many academics would argue is an inappropriate reading. They have no facts. No science. Only culture wars and “you can’t take my guns 😡” nonsense.

      Yeah, same here. We have plenty of shutguns and huntung rifles. And all of those are for hunting purposes. There are strict laws that those have to be kept in locked safe to prevent stealing. And it gives plenty of extra time for spouses and kids to run away from house when somebody gets drunk mad. And it is a bit harder to hide a gun under your jacket 😅

      I want to reiterate a point. I'm not a gun owner. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that I'll pick up a firearm when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. But I will not infringe on a persons right to responsibly own firearms, emphasis on RESPONSIBLY! Guns should not be readily available to everyone because the ownership should be treated as more a privilege than a right. if you're driving down the street and you look over and see see a driver steering with his feet, you might want to get off that road and wonder who let that nutcase get behind a wheel, right? Same principle. So I commend you sir for, I assume, being a responsible and legal gun owner and recognizing the fact that not every should own a gun, legally or otherwise.

    • @evryhndlestakn
      @evryhndlestakn 4 месяца назад +3

      Exactly right my friend. & as he says, he's not against the right for people to have personal firearms but there are checks that need to be in place. History bears that out & its not going to stop every criminal shooting but there needs to be protections in place as well as maintaining freedom for responsible gun owners. Its almost the impossible balance but because something is difficult doesnt mean you give up trying to get that balance as right as society can. We'll never please everybody but the questions should always be asked about what suits society best. If everybody was responsible we wouldnt need any rules but this isnt make believe & some people dont give a damn about others so some rules are not only a neccessity but essential.

What they did know is that, even after the British surrender, England as well as other European powers were still trying to gain control over the new nation and that a well regulated militia (such as those in South Carolina that helped force the British into an indefensible position at Yorktown) would be necessary to backstop a federal military force that was left threadbare by the revolution.

    Stewart is one of the most effective debaters against the conservative side of these issues, because he so effectively breaks things down to their simplest components and shows how they will hold a double standard of “this should be a universal rule” and “I don’t want anything to be a universal rule that affects this because I like it” at the same time. Perfect dissections of weak arguments through and through.

      Many of the alt. right would fail a background check, especially if it included a psychological assessment, because they are violent people, and should not be allowed to own guns because they have difficulty controlling themselves. Who carries out these mass shootings--it's almost exclusively Trump supporters and adherents to the alt. right. The only reason they may have no criminal record is the fact that white people often get off with a warning or a lesser charge in cases that would result in prison for a black person. They threaten to kill people if they say something they don't like, and they always have underlying violence in the way they act. The whole reason they vote and call themselves "political" although with no principles and no political platform or knowledge of politics or issues at all, is the opportunity to crush their enemies using the power of gov't, which they see as the entire reason to seek power. A simple questionnaire would reveal their violent tendencies instantly. If they failed they would deny they were violent, then threaten to kill the person doing the background check and the owner of the sporting goods store.
