Let's hear what either of them have to say about the 1942 USDA film *Hemp for Victory* and how the legalization of "Marihuana" saved the US, England and the Jewish people from fascism and genocide during World War II (an issue which both should be quite keen to observe). They can also explain to their audience how today the film is the key to reducing pollution, replacing fossil fuels, ending deforestation and stopping climate change.

@6th Wilbury I would say that Hislop certainly has a tenacity about him when he's tackling some corrupt BS, that is a trait Jon Stewart and he seem to share. For how I remember him being personality wise and in lot of televised settings I'd say his character is closer to that of someone not unlike Christopher Hitchens, in that Hislop is also an evidentially intelligent, very well-read man with a quick wit; who enjoys verbal busting back and forth. He can and will engage, knowledgeably on a mind boggling number of topics. And when his position is one he's passionate about he absolutely will use scathing mockery and polemicist rhetoric to expose his target's corruption, while increasing the audience's enjoyment of the brutal flaying he's engaged in.

Yeah, the way Ian ridicules people like Jeremy Corbyn a man who could have brought real change to this country is genius. So now what we end up with is Tory and Keir Starmer’s neoliberal Tory lite. Ian went after Corbyn just as much as the Murdoch press and loved to push the fake narrative that Jeremy is an anti-Semite. I’m sorry, but people like Ian and Jon are nothing more than gatekeepers for the establishment. I have absolutely no time for either of these guys, because they’re liberals who like to portray themselves as people on the side of the downtrodden working class.

Talking of HIGNFY, do you remember Hislop calling out Boris Johnson when he was a guest host on there, many many years back? He saw even back then the duplicitous nature of the man and it just makes it even more of a crying shame that the rest of the country had to find out by suffering through his stint as PM.
@@johnnypopstar Yeah, I think a lot of people liked Boris Johnson from his appearance there, admitting to snorting coke seemed so fresh as a politician and I fell for it at the time myself. I'm glad I saw through him before he was elected though, can't understand those who still support him.

There are young boys 11 to 15 years old who have been called young drag Queens who have performed explicit sexual way in front of adults. It's weird. Jon and countless other parents, politicians, academics, celebrities and influencers have ignored points 2 & 3 and pretended only point 1 exists. As you can see I acknowledge all points. Don't forget that most people in the end do not vote for extremists here in Europe. The Italian PM, who was to be feared ahead of the election result, didn't cause any notable crisis, but adjusted to the norm to have talks with your partner countries on all kind of issues. French elections feared the win of Le Pen, neither she or her father ever got into power. They are there to get the 20, 30 percent of angry people who listen to empty promises of going back in time when life 'was great for all'. Same in the Netherlands, where I live, people voted on a party right of Geert Wilders who was very right (and left on certain issues) years ago but not extreme enough. That party people voted for (Forum voor Democratie) has since been obliterated in the polls. The leader turned out a bigger nut than anyone would think. He's following the US book for right wing extremists with of course siding with Putin, calling it the best day of his life when the invasion happened, tries to make trans issues a thing in our politics while no-one cares what someone else does. Same with abortion, they take that from the US, while it hasn't been an issue for Christian parties for decades. They don't even try to bring it up, knowing the fast majority of people are sane and think it's a private issue. It's a useless battle and they are too stupid to see that. Which is good, they should stay in the fringes. Life has challenges enough aside from dealing with idiots in power. Then you have right wing leaders in lets say Hungary, but they are kept in check by the EU and their billions they can withold him. That's why the Union was founded, to keep things in check.

I'm neither British nor American, but as someone who enjoys both British comedy panel show and American Late Night I must say how wholesome it is to see these two in a face to face interview
The one reassuring feeling in all this corruption is that regardless of where you are from, the struggle with corruption is global and impacts us all. No one is above the struggle. Remember when ‘the West’ used to talk about the rabid corruption everywhere else? Lol. Corruption - the great Leveller-could end up bringing all of us together (finally). No room for arrogance any more - plenty of room for understanding and unity. It’s a problem for our species-and we need all of us to solve it. 😊

This was such a stimulating interview. Listening to intelligent people have an intelligent conversation is pleasant. I wish we had more people like them.
The croatian satirical magazine they are refering to in the end there is Feral Tribune. It was a beacon of hope especialy in post-war croatia where nationalist chauvinistic rhetoric was a normal thing and the corruption was rampant . They tried everything to shut them down, the founder was recruited in the army, they sabotaged their advertisers etc. In the end it was shut down, no adds, no money. They are now the symbol of independent journalism in Croatia and ex-Yugoslavia in general, and some of their writers are still my favourite journalists in Croatia.

Jon stopped "speaking truth to power" about 10 years ago. He is now the mouthpiece of the powerful.

Ian Hislop is a national treasure. The man is worth much more than his weight in gold, and to see him sit down with Jon is an honest-to-God joy.
And it's great to see him looking like a lot less of his old HIGN self!
We need him on a bit of a health kick to ensure he'll be around until 'some sunny day' he can come out and say; "Dear UK, normal service has been resumed, politics has become about the betterment of the country & its people, business leaders are no longer interested in pure greed & profit, but are reinvesting in the country, paying fair rates of Corporate Taxes, providing Health Insurance to All the workers and creating Charitable Funds for various projects - with Tax incentives for All employees who wish to 'Join In', as well a options to do Voluntary work for Charities, with Employers footing the Bill for the Voluntary hours.
Businesses - especially in Essential industries - shall be 30% Govt. Owned (& supported as needed) with No business to be more than 45% owned by foreign investors/companies.

No doubt Hislop is a fan of Starmer - regardless of what he says - as Starmer is offering the same neo-liberal policies as the Tories, but with slightly less (and only slightly) of the racist, far-right posturing. Hislop likes to present himself as someone who critiques the elite, but he is very much one of them, and is an enemy of change (probably because he likes his cosy lifestyle).
I'm an American, and an Anglophile and a fan of both of these gentlemen - I know Ian primarily from HIGNFY. I can't express how wonderful it is to see these 2 brilliant men discuss the events on the world stage. Sheer awesomeness in motion!
Ian likes to moan about politics and celebrity and conveniently omits that HIGNFY was the chief media vehicle to bring Boris (and others) to the public's attention over the years
Talking of HIGNFY, do you remember Hislop calling out Boris Johnson when he was a guest host on there, many many years back? He saw even back then the duplicitous nature of the man and it just makes it even more of a crying shame that the rest of the country had to find out by suffering through his stint as PM.

back before Lee Camp's eight years long show was canceled and erased by youtube, that was where I got my news and laughs - though there are other comedians whose humor I like better than either of these guys. Camp had a team of top investigative journalists reporting on all kinds of things you would never know of anyplace else. The Owners had to try to destroy Camp. They won't do that to Jon Stewart because he colors inside the lines they allow.
it's wholesome to see Jon laugh with someone likeminded instead of in the face of someone terrible.

This feels so good i had forgotten that you could have conversation and sanity in the same breath

@@nathanharris4105 Those are two very different things.
Private Eye has proper investigative journalism. Some stories and issues they have covered over decades.
The Onion is a chat show headline.
That is an amazing idea (totally agree)...I really hope there's an intern for AppleTV or PrivateEye watching these comments and sending good ideas up the chain...

This is my first introduction to Mr. Hislop; what an unexpected pleasure!
You should see him on “Have I Got News For You” - all this with satire…
Thank #¿@! for men like Ian and Jon. Never have we needed their kind of clarity and common sense than in the surreal dystopia we're suffering through at present.
Loved the awe on John’s face when he realised he was sat at UK Satire HQ. More of this please, be it quarterly, bi annual or annual this needs to be a regular thing 👍
What do you mean?
@@jonathanfreeman-mariani472 Ian Hislop is the most sued person in UK history. This guy is an absolute legend when it comes to sticking it to the man. Private Eye is an invaluable institution.
This is so fascinating that I wish Jon and Ian did a regular show.
Yes, it had great potential. I'd just wish that Ian could finish more of his sentences. He was too often building up to a conclusion only to be interrupted.
The Smugometer would go into
Overload . ? Plus....you'd have to switch Sanctimony deflector
shields to Max.
Agree refreshing
Two of the best satirists having a chat & one of my favourite episodes yet. 👍
Thank you both, John and Ian you are both amazing people, we need more of you both.
Ian is an utter legend. So cool to see these 2 legends together ❤
Oh, my goodness. We NEED more of this, so much more. These two talking with each other is pure joy to watch. I want fifty hours of this, not fifty minutes. Please, PLEASE get them together again, preferably when Mr. Stewart has had some sleep.
If you knew anything about politics you would realise that neither of them are satirists.
@@jodypritchard5425 I am sorry, did I even use the word "satirists"? I am pretty sure I didn't. Are you replying to the wrong person/message?
@@TJH1
Look at the title of the interview. And both of them regularly describe themselves as satirists or are you being purposely obtuse?
Emperor has no clothes.... Jack Herer-. History is amazing. Look it up.
@@jodypritchard5425 I don’t know enough about Jon Stewart to comment on whether he is a satirist but if you care to look at the dictionary definition of ‘satire’ you would find that Ian (& the Private Eye publication that he heads) pretty much meets that definition.
Goddamn! Never expected to see these two in the same room! Both national treasures of their homelands. Good on you Jon! You're killing it once again.
Ian and Private Eye has been and is, holding their lying thieving feet to the fire. Keep up the good work, the world needs decent, honest and fair people like this pair. Thanks for keeping it real.
My two favorite rock stars! We need more of this type of collaboration. Well done guys!
Wow. There's a meet-up I never expected to see - two of my favorite satirists in conversation. Absolutely wonderful.
I so enjoyed the convo, it is very refreshing to have two great minds discuss issues with egos left outside the room.
I loved how Ian defends the integrity of the BBC, its one of 2 or 3 world media outlets I still follow, as I agree with Ian, in that most media now is peddling sensationalism as truth.
Ian on Jon's show?! This is going to be amazing!
Jon hosting Have I Got News For You would be very special too
The greatest British/American crossover ever!
Two of my favourite people in the world talking together.
Pure joy.
Thank you both.
These two guys ought to have an episode together every week to discuss UK and US politics....
P pp ppppppp0pp pp p
Absolutely, we all need the laughter desperately
It’s such a marvellous sight, seeing these two together! Great conversation.
Two of my favourite people in the whole world.
Please, please Jon get Ian to agree to co host a weekly podcast featuring you two. I'm going to watch this, but I need more Stewart and Hislop.
#RoadTrip
That's a good idea. Ian is really busy between his magazine and TV show, but maybe he would do it once a month.
Two titans, face to face, and wonderful to watch and hear 💙💙💙💙
John seems a little bit giddy to meet Ian Hislop at first - but soon recovered - and their knowledge and jokes were shared in equal measure.
Glorious clip 👏👏👏👏👏
It would be great if these two could do these chats on a regular basis. Maybe once a quarter, a 'State of our Nations' type chat. I'd love that.
That is an unbelievably good idea.
Get Jon to do an episode of HIGNFY! I miss them having really interesting, random hosts rather than the usual suspects.
Excellent idea..would love if they do that!
Great idea. We love Jon Stewart in the UK where witty intelligent conversation is revered. Now add a French guy to make sense of the protests in Paris.
An annual quarter, I hope?
