  • You don’t need to be good in math to become a pilot as they say, in fact, you must be excellent in math, physics and english ! 💫
The safest way to become a pilot is first by getting an engineering degree (any domain you wish), then applying to join a sponsored program (check with your state, the army, the national flag carrier airline) ✈️ This way you have greater knowledge and an amazing backup if for a reason (Covid for exemple) aviation crashes.
Only after, if you have explored all your possibilities and didn’t find one or couldn’t join one, and still want to accomplish this dream, go ahead and join a private pilot school 😊
We should absolutely stop paying airlines to work, we are participating into growing a whole corrupted system, which is not making life easy for anyone, especially for experienced pilots. Just refuse that, don’t accept to be treated like a slave, this is modern age slavery, do something else if you don’t find a pilot job after getting your qualifications, there are plenty of great jobs which will make you happy 🙌🏻
    Good luck my friends 🙏🏻❤️

You only use basic math even while flying complex aircraft. Pilots love to think of themselves as being as smart as doctors or lawyers, but the reality is they are not.
Pilots being hired without degrees is damaging the egos of pilots that thought of themselves as being on the same level as a doctor. I’m a pilot myself. Trust me, if you’re average intelligence, being a pilot is probably the most lucrative career you are cognitively qualified to do.

I went and got 2 degrees in aviation with one in maintenance engineering before starting my flight training.
Although it delayed my start, I think it never stopped paying back.
It baffles me that many pilots don't even have the curiosity to understand how Bus systems like ARINK 429 work. I know you don't need to understand the code written but the high level concept is crucial to decision making. I mean the airfrance 447 was prefect example, had the pilot been synchronized with the automation of the aircraft he wouldn't have to memorize the fact that he had to push the button to over ride the other pilot manual command. I know its all in the manual and I know you can memorize all the check list but when it comes to troubleshooting, you need to have everything in the back of your head because those few seconds can mean life or death.

I don’t think anyone has ever said you don’t need to be good at English. English is literally the standard language in commercial aviation and you need to be fluent to get your license. and when people say math isn’t important, they are talking about a lot of the useless stuff you learn in math class. Basic math is helpful and necessary in all aspects of life but stuff like calculus and/or advance algebra is not at all necessary. If this was the case, there wouldn’t be many pilots at all.

The thing is, Like if there is like basic mathematics involved and get it done in your head. most of the people are good in that. but if you are talking about like decimals and physics formula flowing through your head, then people consider that hard. I do have some skills with piloting aircrafts, not really airliners but like a Cessna. Obviously you need to know physics and the laws so you don't end up giving your self something like ripping your wing off or going too hard on the rudder. Correct me if I am wrong

I do agree on what you're saying and I would emphasise two important things:
    - you mention manual flying is only 15 % of the ability required according to a matrix. But manual flying is not just about following FDs bars. A raw data approach and /or no use of ATHR require both hand flying ability and mental maths (radial intercept, VS calculation, etc...). And raw data skills is less and less appreciated because of too much dependance and complacency on automation ! But when a failure occurs and the weather is crap, the guy who is used to flying raw data will be much safer than a guy who is not.
    - also, about ATPL theory, I don't see it as a filter or a step to pass but more the basic knowledge that is inherent to the job, and yes we don't use much on an everyday basis, but is is the fundamentals of the environment in which we evolve as pilots.

It is a mandatory to be good at math, but "math" are general term for multi-discipline courses such as Algorithm, Algebra, Calculus, Fourier Transform, Vibonacci Sequence, Integral, Limits, so on and so forth. What to be expressed is pilots need to be good at specific math courses related to the aviation. I think it will be funny enough if a mandatory good at quantum physics of black holes calculation to become a pilot. I think in this case, it is totally make nonsense except being good at math related to the aviation discipline. I learn engineering math for electrical engineer, and I don't think so the pilots use Fourier Transform as often as we use it to calculate digital signal. Sure pilots need to understand such math of engineer and technical aspect but as aviator discipline, not as engineer

isn't about day to day use but skills like deductive reasoning goes hand to hand. When Captain Sully landed in the hudsen, he didn't set down and calculate the projection of his landing spot and the calculus taken into account but when you have studied those concepts, it becomes a second nature. That being said Math and Physics alone wont make you a good pilot. And yes if you are a pilot with mastery level of natural sciences including math and physics , you can become an astronaut, can you become an astronaut with just a CPL license ?

I do agree with that he said but the thing is as he said you don't need to do any ecuations in flight and if you do, you have your phone. And this leads to what he said BUT you still have to learn all the theory about how different systems work. I think that's the important part, learning and being good at managing the aircraft, emergency procedures, etc , not doing ecuations in a classroom. Companies shouldn't hire people just because they pay, yeah. Same with physics, ofc you need to learn the basics of flight, how it works, stalling, etc. But doing physics problems in the classroom where you have to find the velocity or smth and you have to use like 3 formulas... For what? But what do I know... I'm just 17

Totally Agree . Unfortunately corporate greed has also spread into the beautiful aviation industry. We have reached a point in this industry where someone who has never had an interest in becoming a pilot and after working many years in another industry , is suddenly interested in the prestige and is paying for a cadet program reaching the right hand seat faster than an experienced flight instructor with thousands of flight hours .These problems can be reduced by removing cadet programs and returning back to the good old days where a pilot can't apply to airlines unless he has at least hundreds of hours in a piston aircraft through instructing etc.. Then we would know who really want to sacrifice to reach the right hand seat .

Hello! Congratulations on your continued success with your aviation career. I am a fan of your RUclips content as well as your Instagram content. I recently came across an old youtube video of yours where you say "if you are not good in math you should not be a pilot." I am not a pilot. In my youth I aspired to be a pilot but I did not use my time wisely and I never finished. I disagree with your opinion. I don't fell that you must be a genius at math to be a pilot. I feel if a person is average at math that should not disqualify them from pursuing their dream. In my opinion your statement may stop a young person from pursuing their dream of being a pilot that otherwise would demonstrate a proficient capacity to operate a complex aircraft with skill and proficiency.
I realize that pay to fly in Europe is a problem. I believe that problem was created by the European governing body of aviation not paying attention. You also referenced how an airline will take a young pilot over a more experienced pilot because of paying lower wages. I too feel that is not fair. I have a question, is that the fault of the pilot trying to establish his/her career or is it the employer for trying to save money on wages? Sometimes I feel that established senior pilots are not willing to help struggling pilots that are trying to reach the same level of success that you and your fellow senior pilots have reached.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Please continue to post your aviation content I do enjoy it. I wish you continued success.

PilotAlexander it is easy to say "If you aren't good at maths you won't become a pilot but you could try something else" when you are a pilot when your dream became real, but just think and answer yourself how it feels after you tried to do your best to become a pilot to achive that dream, but you failed and aren't able to become because some financial issues or how you said-"because you aren't good a maths".That it's not easy, not at all. I think in my opinion that nothing should stop you to become a pilot or to achive your dreams, because many celebrities for example had problems healthy issues, but nothing stoped them to achive what they dreamed for. And it worked they reached their goals, same thing here in aviation, so think different.

@@christophebaron6932 I meant that in the case of some hard maths or physics, shouldn't make you give up about aviation easy, should work hard to reach what you wished for.
