The series is set in the near future, where aliens known collectively as Votans have come to Earth seeking a new home after their solar system was destroyed. However, when they reached Earth, they discovered despite a prolonged negotiation with the government on Earth, they were not welcome. Rather than turn away, they began a war with the humans as they are determined to make Earth their new home. During the war, the Votans dropped terraformers on the planet and transformed the surface; scorching the earth, opening chasms in the ground and covering the surface of the planet in dust and debris. After decades of war, a ceasefire is declared when both sides realise they must focus on survival on this new almost alien planet. The series largely revolves around the character of Jeb Nolan. Jeb was only ten years old when the Votans arrived and he served in the military during the war. With the war now over, he returns to his hometown of St Louis to find it's is no longer the city he left; it is little more than refugee camp. Deciding his services are needed, Jeb takes up a position as the Chief Lawkeeper in Defiance, so he can protect the town from dangerous clashes between humans, aliens, military scavengers and other dangerous visitors who occasionally enter the town

sci fi shows cost a LOT of money, and fedora wearing le reddit army types will hate them anyway so why bother?
One of the best show ever, love it.
It was so touching how andina the maid girl died, exactly when she succeeded in kissing alarc.
That wonderful smile on her face showed a bit of hope for her, having a short at life, but then immediately extinguished by the omarc kensi (felt like crying for her).
Imagine having something good happen to you and gives you hope and a sweet smile then all of a sudden some other thing entirely worse happens and swoops it away immediately.
So sad... 😨😧😥😅, she died with that smile
Defiance had highs and lows but it was overall a great show. The characters were great, and they managed to give them a proper send-off even when the show got canceled.
It was a mediocre show at best.

It was cancelled because it cost "to much to make", even though it was SciFi Channels highest rated series at the time.

@@darkracer1252 Don't worry, the show didn't end on a cliffhanger. They resolved everything so the end felt proper.
This show is tops. Was a bit slow to start but so glad I stuck with it. I'm hooked as fuck!
the cgi didn't look like much. But the show has a little game of thrones vibe to it...might be my new favorite sci-fi series since all stargate series. only watched the pilot, the fallout type music and the dubstep themed music...sold!
Just started watching this, AWESOME! Great acting, writing, and the end music of each episode. Hope they keep this show going.

l really love this show, very much.
I watched this when it first came out really loved the first season but we never watched the next two because it wasn’t advertised and eventually you just kinda forget. But every now and then I remember it and I’ve finally found it again! Will definitely have to watch it
Almost finished season 2. I dont know what comes after but i didnt totally dislike this show. There were some disturbing references here n there but i like Grant Bowler, as a fellow aussie. He can't hide the accent lol. And Starmha was just creepy cool.

At first I though this could of been a sequel to the series Falling Skies, many years after the invasion!
I really liked Season 1 of this series. It had promise, but halfway into Season 2 at this point and I'm like some of this story isn't adding up and the story is just not that good. Hope it starts getting better soon.

Great show..too bad it only lasted 3 seasons
it missed majorly by not including Native Nation lands, survivors, etc.
Hit and miss, as some have said here. They should have hired at least a few Indigenous writers.
This could be revisited with better results

So before the trailer end I knew that it was either based off a video game and then at the end of the trailer it said try the game I was like oh I knew it OR maybe I am assuming.
They made a game based on the show. I think that's the order of it
@@darkblades1201 SUUUper late reply, but they're actually a tandem; released about the same time, and the way it works is that whatever happens to one (like events) affects the other. Sadly, the show was cancelled, so the rest of the story was then incorporated in the game, until the servers were shut down just April last year.

Anyone else notice that with the exception of the arch, this looks nothing like St. Louis? There are no mountains in St. Louis, and it doesn't even look like the Mississippi river is there.
The entire planet was teraformed by alien technology so...
@@QuantumShadow Getting rid of the largest river on the continent is one of the dumbest things you could do if you were terraforming North America.
@@benn454 The terraforming wasnt planned mate. The ark tech fell from the sky and forced the change, mixing our planet with the votans.

Just fantastic. J ust superb. Watched it all....the Mayor is a bit of a tit wearing heels all the time, even in war but it has been FAB.
killing off all the characters does not help the show continue and this is when this sci fi channel started to go down in flames

I watched the first season of Lucifer. Although the actors are good, the production values are good. They don't go crazy, tipping Lucifer's hand that much. The premise is good. But they turned it into a police procedural. Lucifer teams up with whats her name as an advisor to the LAPD and they solve crimes. Come on. In the US every third TV show is about police and law and crap. The show Lucifer got 90% of the way to being a great show and crapped out.
This show kinda sucks, but it gets gradually better.
The opposite of the game, nice.
