As a kid in the 90s, I remember watching the very first episode of this show and being excited to watch it every week... for a while. It was maybe the first time I experienced a good sci-fi slowly losing what made it good. It would not be the last.
Same here bruh I was 9 when it first hit and I watched ilot when it premiered and was immediately Hooked on it and if we were only getting 5 seasons I wish the whole crew stayed together throughout
The moment the original cast started leaving the writing was on the wall. I especially missed the professor, the mix of older and younger characters gave the show a more rounded feel and made it appealing to a wider audience.
The professor had major differences with the producers from the mid of the second season, cause he thought his character was written more and more poorly and was fading more and more in presence of the show. So they decided to remove him from the show.
I think there was also a whole theory on the professor and that in one of the episodes where the professor's alternate did not slide with the rest it was actually that alternate that slide with the others at the end of that episode and left the original professor behind, that theory was never resolved or anything.
honestly once season 3 happened when everything turned into just boring fantasy i started getting annoying. i heard once the professor dies the show nosedives into shit, so when i got there i just bailed. it's really due for a reboot honestly. such an interesting idea that i feel isn't really utilized to the fullest. There's a recent interview with John rhys Davis, where he discusses with great passion the science of the show and how frustrated he got with the writers refusing really good scripts from outside of the writers room and wasting the shows potential on generic scripts that all other Sci fi shows have done in some way
What made those idiot producers think that they could replace a *classically trained, Shakespearian actor* with someone like Kari Wuhrer? In retrospect, that ought to have been my first hint that Hollywood (post-Cold War) would start destroying all of the pop-culture franchises. Years later, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Ocean's 11, Charlie's Angels, Star Trek, Batman, etc. got woke and went broke. But it all began with Sliders. ☹️
I like how they didn't even mention season 5 where Jerry O'Connell was replaced by a different actor, but still played Quinn Mallory. Such an unfortunate end to a show with amazing potential.
@@elreyyakko Your both right. I remember his real life younger brother came on the show, but some girl was added to the show that basically was Quinn Mallory.
@@zvonkothebronco1070 No, the brother came earlier and played his brother in the show. Season 5 they got some totally different guy, and he played Quinn, the brother was gone, and I think maybe even Kari Wherr was gone by then. Only the guy who played Rembrant was still there, trying to renew his music career.
That’s where the show lost me. I didn’t like that and gradually quit watch. A reboot would interest me. I’d give it a chance at least. I do like the new Quantum Leap. So reboots aren’t impossible.
I loved this show. And throughout the 2020 lockdowns I could not help but think that I had slipped into one of those bizarre worlds in the multiverse from this show.
I felt the same way to thinking along the lines that these lockdowns and pandemic were like we all slid into a horrible alternate universe. Loved this show to.
My favorite one was that episode where Quinn met his younger self. The Earth has greater gravitational pull, thus making time run slower. He made his teacher fall in love with him and then at the end of the episode, he admitted to the teacher that his name was actually Quinn, the adult version of her student.
The conflict that teacher ended up having learned that one of her students loved her after making out with the adult version of said student, likelihood is that teacher quit teaching in that timeline.
I remembered one episode they got to their dimension, Quin tried the gate and it was not squeaking because I think his uncle lubricated earlier that day, and that kept sliding not knowing they left home.
it was cool to learn what was different in each world but even cooler to notice what stayed the same, like the cab driver. Not only Slider got me hooked, my mom became completely addicted to it and she hated sci fi. Watching it became a family tradition. When they killed the Professor my heart broke down.
Yeah. It was a terrific TV show. Very different but blooming heck, did it start suffering in the end when they killed off some of the original cast members. And when Jerry O'Connell left, that was the final straw. I liked Rembrandt, but he alone couldn't save Sliders.
To this day Sliders is still one of my favorite TV shows simply because of the potential it had till season 4 and 5 when they went down hill. I would love to see it come back!!
You've done an excellent job of covering Sliders! Quantum Leap and Sliders are two of the best shows of all time and clearly parallel each other. The very last episode of Sliders is off the hook for those who remember how it "ends"
they both also had like...totally "iconic" themes... I can't think of anything that sounds even close... and man, Quantum Leap's??? I could hum the whole damned thing start to finish and it's been a good... let's see I lived in Massillon in 2010...so yeah, a good decade and change since the last time I binged the series XD "hoping that the next leap...would be the leap home" doo dodo doodoo doo doo doodoo~~~
I want to be able to Slide to another world where the networks didn't mess up this show in the first place and had some better seasons after the end of season 2! I used to love this program and never missed an episode. The professor was my favorite character as well.
I wrote something similar before seeing your comment like on a parallel earth Sliders blew up into a Star Trek type cult following and went 10 seasons like SG-1 ...for me the first two seasons and up to Exodus part II I still love to this day but once the professor was gone it starting dropping and while I can say there's several things I like or even love about Season 4 and the last, I think, 9 episodes of Season 3 it just wasn't the same without Arturo but I still mostly liked or loved S4 but then season 5..as much as i love Crying Man and Tears In My Fro Season 5 was just average or worse..I've been hearing they might reboot the series with Jerry and John Rhys in it... fingers tightly crossed for that
I want a reboot but not now, the woke shit needs to go away first otherwise it'll just end up like the Quantum Leap reboot.... be warned, beware what you wish for cus the wish may just come true in ways you never foresaw or intended...
This was a show my mom and I would watch together. Sadly, after the Professor left, the show slowly fell apart. I lost interest in it long before it was cancelled.
@@pferreira1983 Yeah, and, his career got a resurgence, so, there was a happy ending, which is all that matters, considering the facts, in their totality.
Thank you for pointing out what happened behind the scenes. I was always bothered by the potential story elements that went nowhere and the low quality movie knock offs. It's heartbreaking to here how badly the Fox executives screwed it up. They could easily bring this back and I hope they do with Tracy Tormé at the helm.
To be a fly on the wall with some of these clueless executives! They are the reason for so many WTF moments in entertainment. There is a website which documents much of the insanity that went on behind the scenes and what lead to various decisions and cast changes. I was floored!
My favorite Arturo moment was when a healer in a desert world healed him with herbs and a nice mint. The healer said something in Latin and the professor said 'Very well' and gets up. The healer asked why he is getting up, and the professor replied that the healer said in Latin 'Get up and be well'. Then the healer was like 'Huh. I have said that for years and never knew what it meant'. My favorite episode is the one where the American Revolution failed, and the professor's double is the Lord Sheriff of San Fransisco.
Wade, greatest character from the show. She’s adorable, quirky with her mystic beliefs. The heart of the show, and the moral compass. As long as Wade was around it was a good episode.
Bring it back!! Bring it back!! This show needs to be brought back with the same characters. It is an amazing show and deserves a reboot to finish off the storylines. You can’t end a great show like this the way they did. What a disservice to the cast. I hope someone brings it back.

After stumbling across your Night Court episode I specifically searched "WTF Sliders" to see if you'd covered it. Great video. This is a favorite of mine and one I'd always dreamed they would revisit someday with a focus on season 1 type episodes rather than the garbage it later became. Thanks for doing this one, it brought back memories of why I fall in love with it... and the pain of those last few seasons.
If I had a nickle for every great groundbreaking memorable tv show which the network didn't interfere to be one of the best pieces of entertainment in history... I'd be poor! Great episode, I remember very much the show despite being really young when I watched it! This is how I like my nostalgia, in true documentary form, not repackaged as new entertainment. Thanx!!!
They could pick up the revival in the middle of Season 3, keeping the good seasons canon. Not to forget that they HAVE to resolve the "Wrong Arturo" situation considering the Sliders unknowingly left the real Arturo and his double slid with them.
In all fairness, there was very little difference, if any, between the two Arturos in terms of their behavior and their memories. At least based on what I remember about the episodes...
No, the mere fact that he said, "Oh my God," when they slid out does not mean he was the real Arturo. The other one had wanted to replace the original and could very well have reacted like that when hos plan failed. The one that slid with them never gave any hint of being a double, much less an evil one, so that seems very unlikely.
Such a great show. A couple years ago I was discussing one of the episodes with a few people on twitter and out of the blue Jerry O'Connell himself jumped in and gave me the name of the episode, which I was having a hard time remembering. The name of the episode was "Eggheads" which Jerry said was one of his favorite episodes as well.
I didn´t like that episode because it was too Quinn-centric. You know the other characters are shafted when their contribution is drinking in a bar watching Quinn on TV. The best episodes are the one where each character gets something to do, that´s why I like "Luck of the Draw". Even though the episode is largely about Wade, the other characters all have something to do.
Jerry O'Connel had pay disputes - it was explained in an episode where he didn't' really do much in the episode where they are trapped in the forrest with an awful cgi dinosaur.
One of my favorite of all time shows...except the last season...I have all of them on dvd..Thanks for this, now I am gonna have to pull out the DVD's lol
the theory of infinite outcomes is my favorite too. I also like time travel, which can produce similar limited outcomes. One frustrating theory is that no matter how you change events, the original outcome will still occur, only in a different way. JFK is not killed in Dallas in 1963 but in Denver in 1964.
Que did not "accidentally" create a machine that allows him to visit other dimentions. He intentionally created it. Actually he failed to create it till an alternate version of himself who figured it out months earler portaled into his universe and told him what he was doing wrong. The only part that was accidental was Remi coming along with them and the device being stuck on a randomizer so they couldn't portal back to their own universe. Also I agree the show went down hill as soon as the Kromags got introduced. I don't really want a reboot... I would rather see the series continued but revealing that all the stuff with the Kromags was just in a highly advanced computer game... which is kind of an writing trope but there's no other way to write them out of existence other than making them into video game characters on another Earth. And then continuing on as if all the shit involving them never happened. But if they do have a reboot with new characters and make it closer to creator's original intent before the network said "Screw science lets just do any damn thing even if it makes no logical sense."
It only became random because they were trying to escape a tornado and activated the device early... Although that's a weird reason for it to send you somewhere random since the machine that generates the portal isn't there
The episode where the Kromags were introduced was awesome imo. After they turned them into the big bad of the show they went downhill (but they were still a fun enemy) I suppose. The show really went down the drain after they killed Prof. Arturo though, and the cast went off the rails S4 onward. Especially S5, which I don't even consider Sliders to be honest, sigh.
Probably one of my favorite shows of all time (seasons 1-3). The og Sliders were awesome but after Arturo left it was downhill and don't get me started on the Maggie character. It's all the more frustrating with this show when you know there is so much potential with this type of storyline, literally infinite possibilities for stories.
Man! I loved this show! At least the first 2 seasons at best lol. It got really messy, and now at least I know why. Bringing in new characters, killing off the proffessor... Kromaggs! Having Wade taken off and never really seeing the potential of her character arc come to life, waa all a tragedy for this series. I usually choose to only watch the first two seasons, maybe the 3 (sometimes). But all in all, Sliders was and could've been a game-changer show. Here's hoping for the reboot.
one of the coolest things that happened to me as a young adult was sitting at the airport, just like man I know that face from somewhere and it clicked. Cleavant was touring with his band in chicago and I was like hey are you the guy from sliders - he was like yup.. It felt great to be like that show helped me survive through college.. Definitely think they could make this show amazing and not have those weird strange gotta fight a bad guy type vibe. or make it a 1 season where they end up finally going back to home world to "destroy the device" anyway keep up the fun vids cheers.

@@matthewdaley746 He was great in the show and he provided performances in many great episodes but with Season 3 he needed good writing and that's where things fell apart. I see no shame being involved in a series that was at least great to begin with.
Due to problems at school I was homeschooled for my seventh grade year and I would watch this show as my first break every weekday. It was like a fever dream because I never saw the episodes in any semblance of order but I really enjoyed the what if scenario every day. My favorite episode was the world where you could pay for a clone to be made of you at birth and then, as you grew, you had a source of blood transfusion and organ transplant, if you ever needed it, but then found out that the clones had consciousness of their own, and it was a big, moral dilemma.
What bugs me the most about season 5 was that they had no goal in sliding anymore. Early seasons the goal was to get back home. Then the goal was to find Quinn's parents so they could defeat the Kromags. By season 5, they knew how to get home but couldn't go there because Kromags. They were no longer looking for any specific thing or person. They were just sliding with no goal in mind; so it didn't make sense that they would keep doing it, instead of staying at the next liveable earth they found.
Sliders. A show about 'sliding' between alternate dimensions, based off a party trick that some people used to be able to do; seemingly randomly turning off street lights whenever they walked under them!!
Jeah I really loved this show but towards the end it became almost painfull to watch. I would love a remake/Spin-off because the concept is awesome. And it would work if they can refrain from ripping off other movies and series.
I remember this as a kid, I thought it was interesting. The premise is still interesting, it's a shame it never showed it's full potential. Hopefully they go for a reboot with the same cast. It can still work with the first 2 1/2 Seasons, just follow the same characters in a new reality jumping from reality to reality.
The chemistry between the original 4 main characters made this a very Star Trek like show for me. I loved the cast as much as the stories. Season 1 and 2 rocked.
I started rewatching this on peacock. Sliders was one of my favorite shows ever. I'm in the last season. What without Quinn and Colin it ain't the same.....
I'm revisiting Sliders at the moment as i do every few years. But one retcon I never liked was when they had it be that Quinn wasn't really from earth prime...
Sliders was and still is my most favorite show. I miss it dearly still. Seasons 1 and 2 were the best. Also were filmed in Canada. Season 3 was moved to LA and that's when it started going downhill quick. Half of season 3 is watchable, the 2nd half is hard. Season 4 is also hard and season 5 is really very unwatchable. They have been trying to get a reboot or whatever to happen for a very long time and it was in 2019 I think that John was interviewed and said the problem was who actually owned the rights to the show, that they think its NBC Universal still but there were issues. They are working on it though. John and Jerry are in if it happens. Would love to see Sabrina come back too.
I hated how Season 4 totally flipped the script with Quinn being from an alternate world and putting the focus on the Kromaggs for the majority of said season. Despite that, I gotta admit that Season 4 had a some good episodes, at least at the beginning.
@@theraptorus I agree with you. I liked his brother joining the cast. Lots of funny bits as he was discovering modern society and tech. But yeah I hated they made Quinn from another world.

100% i remember that show being good (I may be wrong it might have been crap but I enjoyed it then)
Yes!!
Still waiting for it to be available digitally so I can add it to my collection!
I like how they didn't even mention season 5 where Jerry O'Connell was replaced by a different actor, but still played Quinn Mallory. Such an unfortunate end to a show with amazing potential.
It was his real life brother who took over role
@@elreyyakko Your both right. I remember his real life younger brother came on the show, but some girl was added to the show that basically was Quinn Mallory.
I think it was his brother
Whoa, that's heavy.
The conflict that teacher ended up having learned that one of her students loved her after making out with the adult version of said student, likelihood is that teacher quit teaching in that timeline.
That one was pretty good because he taught his younger self how to defend himself and stand up to his bullies
The squeaky gate was brilliant. I remember even as a child being blown away by it.
Literally the first thing I think of when I hear the word Sliders, I think of that squeaky gate.
@@pipinfresh same!
Yes! I still remember it...in fact I watched all of it again, because I wanted to see the gate scene again! 🤯🤯🤯
A great example of frustration.
I remembered one episode they got to their dimension, Quin tried the gate and it was not squeaking because I think his uncle lubricated earlier that day, and that kept sliding not knowing they left home.
Losing the Professor from Sliders is like losing Uncle Phil in Fresh Prince
It was the end of the show.
The real Arturo is still alive and stuck on the blue Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco world!
No he’s not. Dinosaur episode that was shown before that episode actually took place after the blue Golden Gate Bridge episode in the time line.
Tracy Torme the shows creator confirmed that Arturo is actually alive and on the blue bridge earth so Maxwell Shaver is correct
Just watched that episode last night on the Peacock channel through my Roku.

it was cool to learn what was different in each world but even cooler to notice what stayed the same, like the cab driver.
I would love to see it come back!!

they both also had like...totally "iconic" themes... I can't think of anything that sounds even close... and man, Quantum Leap's???

I wrote something similar before seeing your comment like on a parallel earth Sliders blew up into a Star Trek type cult following and went 10 seasons like SG-1 ...for me the first two seasons and up to Exodus part II I still love to this day but once the professor was gone it starting dropping and while I can say there's several things I like or even love about Season 4 and the last, I think, 9 episodes of Season 3 it just wasn't the same without Arturo but I still mostly liked or loved S4 but then season 5..as much as i love Crying Man and Tears In My Fro Season 5 was just average or worse..I've been hearing they might reboot the series with Jerry and John Rhys in it... fingers tightly crossed for that
Dude i swear, this show is becoming more and more relevant and i love it! I hope the reboot gets made because it deserves more love

Loved the show, especially the original cast. First two and a half seasons best IMHO, THANKS FOR FEATURING IT!
I was annoyed when Arturo quit....then in the following seasons I realized he saw the writing on the wall n jumped ship

Great episode, I remember very much the show despite being really young when I watched it! This is how I like my nostalgia, in true documentary form, not repackaged as new entertainment. Thanx!!!
Sliders was an amazing show up until season 3
So true
They could pick up the revival in the middle of Season 3, keeping the good seasons canon. Not to forget that they HAVE to resolve the "Wrong Arturo" situation considering the Sliders unknowingly left the real Arturo and his double slid with them.
I know! I can't believe they got them mixed up and then it was never brought up again.
keep all of season 3 then slide to the world where they left the wrong arturo that was like earth prime and pick up from there
In all fairness, there was very little difference, if any, between the two Arturos in terms of their behavior and their memories.
Now this is the kind of show that could be a fantastic reboot.
If they could bring back Quantum Leap, then Sliders indeed deserves the same chance.
I was pissed when they replaced John Rhys-Davies. WHO IN THE HELL GETS RID OF JOHN RHYS-DAVIES????? That reboot idea sounds brilliant
NO REBOOTS, it would be a woke piece of shit like every other reboot that's come out in the last few years.
He got rid of himself. That's who.
I really liked the premise of this show but it started to get dumb when they introduced the Cromags and the O'Connell's abruptly left.
Jerry O'Connel had pay disputes - it was explained in an episode where he didn't' really do much in the episode where they are trapped in the forrest with an awful cgi dinosaur.
You're so right. They should have kept the emphasis on actually exploring new cool worlds instead of trying to save earth prime from the kromaggs

I’m also a huge fan of “what if” stories. Schrödinger’s cat and all.
the theory of infinite outcomes is my favorite too.
Although that's a weird reason for it to send you somewhere random since the machine that generates the portal isn't there
Nah, keep the Kromags. They were dope.
SJWS and PC won't allow this show to be done properly.
The Kromaggs were great in the episode Invasion. It's what the Sci-Fi Channel did to them that messed them up.
This show was ground breaking in it's time. !!!
All we science fiction fans loved it .!
Professor Maximillian Arturo was hands down my favorite character on the show.
I'm in 100% agreement with your points. The studio ultimately wanted a dumbed down action show.
one of the coolest things that happened to me as a young adult was sitting at the airport, just like man I know that face from somewhere and it clicked.
