sLeeK I don’t like that. The concept is way more interesting than the aftermath. It’s like the same way they ruined that Beatles movie yesterday. It also had an intriguing concept but ruined it by focusing on the dull love story.

@@Monkeyfish05 no the way they handled the show is actually perfect. They make you ask the same questions the characters are asking, thus you have a immediate connection with them. If ever they solved the mystery, it should be at the end of the last season. Which is kind of sort of what happened.

Absolute masterpiece, easily the most interesting, creative and intelligent tv show out there. Do not listen to the hate, its just impatient people who want a simple to understand narrative. They want a show that leaves no questions. The Leftovers makes your brain tick, you question yourself and you question whether there was more to it than what the writers have given you to see. +Caldor3 This show IS simple to understand... tired of you pseudo-intellectuals thinking that if someone disagrees with you they must certainly be miles behind you in intellect or curiosity. Someone once said that if you want to make something popular, aim for mediocrity, and this is an example of that. The average people who are certain they're geniuses think this sort of thing is mind-blowing, too.

The show grew on me, and now I love it.
First few episodes, you're like "Huh? What did I just watch?" But that "Huh?" and "What?" feeling is what drew me in. I knew I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either (at first), but I was so curious to figure out where they were going with the storyline that I stayed with it. And I'm glad I did. Season 2, to me, it's incredible!
Don't want to spoil anything here, but the key in "getting" the show, so to speak, is not focusing on what happened to "The Departed". Which is something that we, as viewers, expect to get revealed at one point or another. Like "OMG, what happened to them? How did it happen? Where did they disappear to? Who was behind it? Are they dead?"
I like solving mysteries. So first few episodes, I had my theories. That's probably why I kept watching. But then got a bit frustrated because my questions weren't being answered. Then I stopped myself and realized that this isn't about the ones that vanished, but about the ones that are left. Hence, The Leftovers.
That "How?" or "Why?" and questions about "What happened?" is what steers you away from what the show is truly about. Once you stop viewing it as, 'The Departed', but focus on the actual name of the show, 'The Leftovers', and how 'The Leftovers' are dealing and coping with a messed up, out of this world (literally), and unexpected situation, then you'll truly enjoy it.

If you're trying to decide on your next series, let this be it. After watching the handmaid's tale, I was positive that show had ruined tv for me. I didn't think I'd ever find a show as amazing and suspenseful as handmaid's tale. Then I came across the Leftovers. This is truly in my top 3 series I've ever seen. If you enjoy being challenged emotionally and intellectually, being at the edge of your seat, and questioning our existence entirely, this is the show for you. If you like to be spoon fed a plot and know what's happening at the end of each episode, go watch NCIS or charmed or something. I have never come back to a trailer to talk about how good a series is. This is the first time doing this, but I just finished the series finale, and I'm in awe.

I was lucky to find this series in 2021. I watched the whole in few days.
The reason is that I have never seen a series which have all the actors so great. I mean breathtaking acting, I didn't think it a single moment it is not real, but it was just acting still, so real one. Many questions are about who we should believe and how the end of the world will go to everyone in their life. Many scenes about pain and some about joy. I think we all have our thinking-lines how each line could have happened - it was like a book adventure.
So thankful for this spiritual road, I will rewatch it few times, cause each episode has their own magic.

Much like with LOST, anyone who watches for "answers to the mysteries!" is watching for the wrong reasons. Lindelof is a great writer because he focuses on the characters. In such a rich setting, whether it be a crazy island or Earth post-rapture, you can really dig into different themes and human issues made so potent by their environment, and that's what he does best. This show is fantastic, and while it's not for everyone, it may be the best character driven drama currently on the air.

Watch the Lost episode "Walkabout," (Episode 4 of Season 1) and tell me he's not a great writer. Lost was a money-making machine for ABC, and it was pulled in a million directions to cash it against creative efforts. Finally they gave in and let the writers end the show, and while that tug-of-war is felt in seasons 3-6, it still had some one of a kind character moments. Get more original with your critique bro.

To anyone reading that hasn't already seen it, watch this show. It's one of the best shows that television has given us recently. Unless you want everything handed to you and solutions to all the problems just magically appearing. In that case, this show isn't for you. You WILL be frustrated with how open ended things are at times, but it keeps drawing you in and keeps you wondering "What could possibly happen next?"
The only show that I've watched (which isn't a whole lot, but still) that I think is better is Mr. Robot. That show is the best cinematic experience I've ever seen. But the two of them together make up my favorite shows of all time.

Watched Episode 1. And I have to say, Id much rather watch a show set right after all these people dissapeared. All the immediate questions these characters had, and answers to almost none of them. I want to see THAT. Instead we get The whole "3 years later" BS. And it put me off almost imediately. Idc about the departed, they're either never coming back, or they'll come at a set time. Nothing can be done either way. So why worry or wonder about them...

So everyone is either hating on this or loving it. Let me clarify why, so you can finally decide whether or not you should watch it.
If you're after a good sci-fi full of mind-blowing well thought out mysteries and twists, this is not it.
Yes, 2% of the population does disappear in a mysterious way in this series, which qualifies it to be a mystery sci-fi, but the only thing the plot focuses on is the dramatic part of the event and the aftermath. You will only see the reaction of the "leftovers" to the disappearance of their loved ones. You won't at all find out the whys and hows of any of the main mysteries.
However for what this actually is, which is a drama and a bit of romance, it's definitely good. The characters do get a little over-dramatic at times, but if you're as emotional as the characters and you're after a good drama you'll like it.
I personally hated and liked it at the same time. To me it tried really hard to be profound with it's message but the message was weak.

@Zen Dissonance then definitely skip this because something i didn't add in my review (didn't wanna involve religion), it's packed with brainwashing techniques through Christianity. • @bb7827
      @bb7827 3 года назад

@@fathergabrielstokes4706 Fair enough. I believe us humans overestimate our existence. We aren't in a position to claim whether or not there's a God, and we'll never find out, not in this lifetime at least. Even the "holiest" man on earth won't know.
As for people who claim science has proven that there's no God, news flash, our science is nowhere near complete and it will never be enough to solve the God mystery.
But I've had many personal experiences with unnatural phenomenon. I meditate and I've been in some extremely intense altered states of mind. In those states as well as in my default concious state of mind, I've seen, felt, and become some unexplainable things. Anyway now after all that, I'm starting to believe we're nothing more than AI. Maybe biological and maybe only codes.

One of the most unacceptable underrated masterpiece I've ever seen in my life, this show is a brain-wrecker the first reaction from all viewers it's "What happened to people who disappeared" like they call them the departed (les disparues (the missing people) in french version) we all want answers like the characters in the show and when we don't get answers you continue to convince yourself "We will get some answers it's impossible to not know what happened" it's pushing our mind to believe some things or having some theories, but when you follow the show you understand you will never get answers about the real reason of their disappearance but the real purpose on this show is not to know the truth but to see how you would react if it was really happening in real life, how humans would survive to this, WE WOULD SURVIVE ? We would still be the same world ? We could move forward and still be okay despite the horrible situation who doesn't make ANY SENSE !
it's just pure genius writing especially the cult who show what kind of human could do if really it's happening the quality of the filming was insane, or this incredible song who gives the purety of your soul

I just realized that this trailer only includes scenes from the first episode with the exception of the kids jumping off the high school building.

I’m starting to feel insulted as an audience that so many shows feel like they need to spam naked women and fucking in every commercial to make their shows look appealing. It’s really starting to feel cheapening, like they feel the concept, acting, screenplay, etc wouldn’t be compelling enough without “yeah but look, we have fucking, come see the fucking.”

Shia Fagalebaum except that fucking shows things about the people doing it, different emotions, plus that it is appealing. Pooping is just pooping.

Shia Fagalebaum well this particular show shows everything so you can't complain about that. And I understand, but while sex can be made to look appealing, shitting can't.
