Imanari is the master of leg locks in MMA . . . in the pride days . . . it's long been established he's not the Master of Leg Locks from a pure grappling perspective. It actually kinda takes away from why he's such a legend, because that mfer was diving for the legs when kicks were coming at him lol

Bruce Lee wrote it, “I let him come close so I can graze his skin, I let him graze my skin, so I can pound his flesh, I let him pound my flesh so I can break his bones, I let him break my bones so I take his life”.
You’ve just observed this in this video, I gave him bait… so I can take the big fish.
Aka I gave him his treasured foot/leg… but I gave it to him, he didn’t take it away from me… it’s a gift…

I like it when it looks like this kind of match, where the fighters are constantly battling for position, attacking different options for a sub, and stuff like that. It’s when no major change of position is happening and one person is just holding the other down, or against the cage, but accomplishing nothing, that I get frustrated with watching. Also agree that it’s ten times better the way this kid breaks it down. I guess that speaks to the value of good announcers who can explain some of the intricacies to us normies. 😁

He may certainly not be the most well rounded fighter, or all around fighter but the guy has some bjj and bjj can and does work often.

Goes to show you how confident he is in his own skill set.. He’s comfortable explaining techniques and strategies in detail, because he’s sure he knows wayyy more than he’d ever be able to divulge through a series of interviews or performance breakdown videos such as this one. It’s one thing explaining to someone what and how I did what I did. It’s another thing altogether to actually deploy those moves and tactics in a competitive setting. His opponents can listen to him explain this stuff all day… Doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be able to execute the maneuver themselves under the pressure of a major competitive environment. Hell, they might not even be able to remember a single word Mikey said once the lights are on and the bell rings.

Thanks for this video. So interesting to hear Mikey give his comments on his nice win, and about this fantastic match. And don't forget Imanari, so much respect to him for taking this match against someone from the new generation (or rather 2 or 3 generations newer; Imanari is 46 yo).

Mikey puts a smile on my face every time I watch his videos. Broke my heart when he was “boo’d” in one of the videos after winning a match. He’s incredibly humble and respectful. You can tell he doesn’t want to hurt anyone and shows concern and care after.

I don't really follow Jiu-Jitsu matches closely at all, barely ever watch them.
BUT I am a huge MMA and Boxing fan, and I've always loved martial arts.
And I say all of that to simply say this:
The Martial Arts world, needs this kid. Absolutely needs him.
Polite, respectful, highly technical, highly capable, and still humble.
Mikey's everything a martial artist should be, and he represents his art well.
Great role model, and has got me watching Jiu-Jitsu matches because of it.

ONE FC is amazing to have no gi BJJ and have it explained in detail like this will be great for the sport, helping people understand what’s going on will eventually grow a lot more interest from non-practitioners can only do wonders for the sport. Long live Chatri Sityodtong! And ONE! 👑 🔥
