  • These guys make this area notoriously difficult to get through, as their equipment is literally designed to keep undead and hollows in their cells. Their most infamous ability continually shrinks your health bar, by seemingly inexplicable means.

I don't think anyone's reverse engineered the game's debug hitboxes yet if they exist(Which they likely do) due to the fact of DS2's code being less identical then the other souls games are to each other. I can defintely try and I know some people who can also help me look.
If I'm lucky enough to find it, which ones would you consider janky? I haven't played it over nearly as much as you likely have so my knowledge on which ones seem to have janky hitboxes is limited, unlike DS1(*cough* titanite demon). Now that I think about it looking at the slowed down footage, it takes a second for you to actually gain the main health drain effect(Which lasts 20 secs), so that 3 sec effect might be a sorta threshold thing, where u need to get hit a few times before you actually start losing max HP
Also the smoke doesn't have any effect even tho it has a hitbox, it likely just remains as a visual queue for the pursuing mode activation.

Knowing that blocking line of sight blocks the projectiles honestly made it feel like any normal fight. The big room has several areas where you can avoid being seen, and they don't seem to have very good tracking. Run from one room to the next, and only heal once you are out of there, or if you want to kill them, slowly lure them to one of the side rooms, or take them out when they are more separated. Yeah but when the effect wears off you don't get the HP back, so it's not pointless at all.
They drain all your HP, and the first thing you'll want to do when you get it back is heal; but if you got branded your healing is now 20% less effective, causing you to waste 2 flasks to heal.
Also as the Old Man pointed out recently, 20% reduced healing takes a +10 flask to the effect of a +3.

Confusing for new players? Bruh, I've been playing this since it came out. This shit never made any damn sense to me. The only things I figured were that the soldering iron was a grab and that the mist drained max hp. And I was still only half right. You're a champion good sir.

Hidden Body, Arrows, and the Storyteller's Staff. I took one look at those Bloodborne-belonging Tall Heaps of Nightmare Fuel and said "yep, gonna give these the stealth treatment."
I didn't 'want' to be a stealth archer on my first playthrough, but then I said "I will farm for the staff once. One farm kill of the Storyteller is all you get, Fate." And then I got the Staff on my first actual try.
After Plat'ing DeS, DS1, and DS2, this game knows me and my ninja/stealth/cheese/scrub tendencies too well. :/

Don't heal if eye vision hits you, if you have enough HP to survive attacks from enemies around or if you are going to the safe area. After 20 seconds your HP bar will go to normal. Those attacks don't directly drain your HP, but the size of HP bar itself. If you heal but they are around they will drain your HP bar again and you will lose that estus that you used to heal.

    One, ONE OF THEM:
    > Eats your health with death stare.
    > Has an attack that the stun time is bigger than the time you killing another Lord of Cinder.
    > Then goes straight up for a almost certain death grab.
    Lmao

Good to understand this completely now. I remember doing dozens of playthroughs and I only guessed that it had something to do with range or possibly its opening fog attack so I'd end up sprinting out of there as fast as I could, which sometimes didn't work since I'd get caught by the health drain anyway. At least now I know it was because they were still aggro'ed to me and caught up just in time to tag me

I know this is uninteresting at most but what about the shirtless hollows in the Undead Settlement? I’ve noticed they count as allies to the host and phantoms since you can buff them and heal them, but can’t defend themselves without a weapon and has really low HP. Could you give them a weapon or adjust their stats at all?

There is no reason for them to be this annoying. A weapon that literally makes it impossible to escape if hit, a grab that has no good chance of escaping since there is barely room to move, an invisible attack draining your health that takes too long to shake off with the worst part being that they can do it while chasing you and at a rapid rate. If they made the dungeon more spacious, make it so the grab actually has some wind up and isn't instant, and made it so they can only drain you health while standing still or make it so they have some sort of draw back while staring, I'd be more of a fair fight then simply getting screwed by the ai, hitboxes, etc. Even for a souls game, this just isn't a challenge, it's just unfair.
