Lay the blocks right sides together with the strips running in opposite direction, then sew around the whole block. Cut the blocks diagonally twice like a sandwich then press open. You get the same result, without all the fussy cutting.
I do not know what the problem is if you have more control of your blade moving toward you. I would think comfort, muscle memory, and blade control would be more important than technique that is generally taught or that some think better. Cut how YOU feel safest. First time watching and enjoyed your tutorial.
Thank you. I'd not thought about it being muscle memory but that would make sense; years of cutting with a scalpel and rule is a hard habit to shake! c x

Yes, I have seen that method but to be honest I'm a bit scared of it - don't trust myself to cut a layer of fabric I can't see!!! c x
