I am always awestruck by your work. Folks like you and Jay do the "rehab" so much differently than many of those in the states that I've watched. Many here would have seen the ink marks and used that as a reason to paint the piece instead of what you've done. Hats off to you and the fabulous work you do, always so much fun to watch you work. Kudos! Have to ask though, what is with the corks for Daisy? She's so adorable. Does she eat them or what? I've never heard of that before. Thanks for another great restoration. Almost forgot, I love the patterns you had done on the chair seats. Precious.
Thanks so much for your lovely comments about my work. Daisy once chased a cork when we popped one and ever since then she loves them, she doesn’t eat them, just chews them in half then wants another 😂😂 She has a thing where if she does something once and we make a fuss of her, she never forgets 😂🐶❤️
My late father in law one day showed me the carved wooden lintel above his door and made a remarkably apt comment. He said that modern day fittings are just thrown together but in years past these beautifully constructed fittings were made by artists. He then pointed out that that is where the job description of an artisan comes from. It takes years for a true artisan to learn and perfect their trade. He also pointed out that a carpenter has a love for wood and understands everything about the various types of woods nature. Today the demands are so high because of the worlds burgeoning population and wood is becoming scarce and expensive. To see old good pieces of furniture restored and put back into use is both ecologically sound. And lets face it quality lastscand in the old end works out less expensive.
Certainly takes me back, you do such meticulous work and I really like the way you take us along for the journey with your great narratives, I’m learning a lot just watching, thank you
As a retired teacher, I was delighted to see this sweet project! What a lovely job you did. Of course the soda and lemon didn't work. I don't know what this trend of mixing baking soda and acids is all about. I can't really write out the equation, but citric acid (or vinegar, or what have you) plus baking soda yields water, carbon dioxide, and whatever material you started with that was of greater volume. In other words, they cancel each other out and do nothing at all. I love that you allow Daisy to choose her own cork. She is a joy.
This takes me back to my own schooldays in the 50's when I sat at a desk just like that. I would have made ink marks just like those as we used 'dippy' pens and inkwells. My one aspiration back then was to be the 'ink monitor' who filled up the ink wells but I never rose higher than 'straw monitor, who gave out the straws at 'milk time'. Thank you for doing such a magnificent job in restoring this. A little bit of history to be loved by future generations.
I too remember desks like this in their original incarnation. The remnant of ink stains adds authenticity; perhaps the only thing missing is the "chuggy" underneath the desk.
David, these pieces are so well done. Maybe it’s because I’m a retired teacher but I think these might be my favorite pieces that you’ve redone. I think the laser patterns are really sweet and appropriate for the chairs. Great job! Thank you so much for sharing.
Hi David. Super work on the desk and chairs. You must have the patience of a saint when completing all the intricate details not only on this one but, in fact all your work. Don't agree with one comment about not talking too much on your videos. It's great to have your comments as you work on your restoration jobs. Adore Daisy and love to see her in each video. Carry on giving us more videos of your fabulous restorations.
This takes me back a bit. I remember those little ceramic ink pots. My school was old fashioned and we had to use fountain pens. Even school furniture was good quality back then - unlike now. Nice result.
Beautiful work, David! I taught elementary children for 35 years and we never had such gorgeous desks and chairs! I’d love those pieces in my own home now. So glad you chose them to bring back to life.
David, most people wouldn't have given the school desk and chairs a second glance in the state they were in but your magic touch has turned them into wonderful pieces of nostalgia to be admired. I especially love the wood grain patterns in the desk and the laser cut designs on the seats :-D
Wow David. Firstly can’t believe furniture of this quality was made for schools. And I love the two tone effect you’ve done and the detail you’ve put on the seats. It’s so lovely, I’m not sure I’d be letting a child use it 🤣🤣. Absolutely fantastic job. And the end result was worth all your hard work. Xx
What an Amazing restoration, absolutely love the two tone stains as always your workmanship is incredible. Daisy interludes are very cute and it wouldn't be right without her asking for a cork.
Watching you work on these pieces is like slowly unwrapping a present. The anticipation builds till the final reveal and it is always beautiful!! Bravo!!
This is really turning a sows ear into a silk purse! This piece looks beautiful and expensive now. I adore the engravings. When I see an old desk like this I think of strict teachers who slap your hand with their ruler, but the engraving and color change bring such a sense of fun to the piece. I can see kids coloring all over this desk now and it still looking fabulous.
The designs on the chair seats were absolutely brilliant!! What a sweet thing to do. The end result was far and away more than I expected. This was a work of sheer artistry. I love watching you work. Thank you so much for thinking of us when you chose this project. I could see a little boy and a little girl, in my mind's eye, sitting at the desk, doing their homework and chatting together. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience. Pet Daisy for me.
Amazed at the gobs of paint you were able to remove. Not to mention how creatively you got rid of the marker pink and other stains. Beautiful work. Always a pleasure to watch your restorations. Love the Daisy visits.
Amazing. The only thing I'd have done differently would be to replace the inkwells with some USB charging ports. The technology would really add something new to all that vintage charm.
A superb restoration yet again! You and Jay are my two favourite restorers. Just the perfect amount of commentary, excellent camera work and of course Daisy always makes a special appearance. Can’t wait for the next video!
Wow! What are you?! The fairy godfather for all those Cinderella pieces of furniture, of which, no doubt, there are still plenty more awaiting your talent! Love what you've done here ... once again! Have a wonderful holiday season! 🎄
Beautiful job! What a transformation. So many people throw away furniture that looks like what you started with. I'm so happy to see that it's beautiful again, and will be used for many more years to come.
What a treasure! You were right that we would enjoy this beautiful transformation. I wonder how many plaits were dipped in those inkwells? More than a few, I'm guessing. You bring history to life with pieces like this. Thank you!
The restoration is divine. Bringing back a piece of history is always worth it. If I were a child who could read and do homework at a desk, however, I might think the designs were a bit for a younger child. A cushion on the seat could extend the life of the desk set on into college.
Wowee David. That was more wrk than you showed. I can’t imagine getting all that white paint outta the oak grain. Daisy is a sweetie. Thanks for sharing her cuteness lol I bet the new owner of this beautiful desk and chairs will cherish it for many yrs.
Turned out beautiful. It's a bunch of work removing layers of paint but worth it in the end. BTW, that desk is much older than the 50'/60's. Ball point pens had replaced inkwells by the mid 50's. I just love seeing Daisy she's so pretty and loves you very much. Have a Merry Christmas.
Revealing all that oak grain was the right thing to do, not easy, but the result shows off all that lovely wood grain. The chair seats are adorable. I hope some young children get to enjoy the fruits of your labor!
These are the restorations I love the most. Removing the awful paint and making it more beautiful than it probably was originally. Great job! Thank you for the video.
💜💜💜Thank you for another amazing video! I love what you did with this little desk. As always, it is so much fun to see your sweet Daisy! My little Max and I wish you both a happy, healthy New Year with love from California, USA
They turned out beautiful! The laser on the seats is adorable. The paint job looked like someone gave an 8 yr old a big paintbrush and can of paint! My two terrier mutts do the same thing to my hubby, stare adoringly.
When I were a lad growing up in the 1980s, I had an identical desk in school, but mine was covered in chewing gum and badly drawn willies. You did another fantastic job my friend, 👏

Nobody does abstract impressionism like mother nature. The different colors and stains beautifully enhance this.
Thanks 😀
Lovely. I don't know How you do it, but your Ability to make the Wood Grain Pop like that is Amazing!
Thanks Robert, kind of you to say 😀😀
The extra little touches you added really boosted the quality of this restoration. 🎉
Thanks so much 😀😀
No need to apologize for the length of your videos. They’re so enjoyable! Lovely, lovely job!

Hi Molly, I thought I’d give the lemon a try but it was rubbish and I won’t be trying it again 😂😂 So pleased you liked the desk/chairs 😀❤️
The dinosaurs were a really nice touch!😊
Thanks 😀😀
Some projects require a soul connection. You got that right. And had fun !!!

Stunningly beautiful restoration. Can't beat that old wooden school furniture.

It’s great that this desk has evoked so many memories for people. I didn’t have one of these desks but I was the “milk monitor” . Good times 😀😀
Love your history Joan! I didn't think ink wells were used as recent as the 50's, who knew. Lol, probably everybody but me! Thanks for history lesson!
I too remember desks like this in their original incarnation. The remnant of ink stains adds authenticity; perhaps the only thing missing is the "chuggy" underneath the desk.
I was ink monitor!!!!😂😂😂😂 Blue/black Quink in a massive bottle!!!!
That was in the 1960s......
You are a true master of restoration and as always Daisy steals the Show!
She’s the star of the channel not me 😂😂🐶❤️
Bought back memories to this old lady 50-60’s right .
It was around 1950’s 😀😀
I am delighted you could see the potential. How brilliant it all looks

Simply lovely, I can see why you made the trade. Laser was a beautiful touch!
Thank you very much!😀😀

Thank you! 😊
Very creative solution! Your work looks great. Very simple. Beautiful wood - nice work.
