Are ostriches easy to care for?

  • This is a question I get all the time, how much time do the birds take in a day, and how hard is it to take care of the ostriches? Most days it only takes me a few minutes, cleaning their water every few days adds another 10 ish minutes. They are some of the easiest animals I've ever had to take care of when it comes to daily chores and care. They are also the strangest and most difficult when you factor in fencing, moving them from one area to another, and doctoring. It's been a learning curve over the last year and half but I absolutely love my dino birds and wouldn't have it any other way.

I'd like to get one in the future seems like the females are less aggressive from what you're saying right?

The females tend to be much easier to work with and overall less aggressive. But they do still have their bad days and can do just as much damage as the males.

I would also advise against only getting one. They tend not to do well on their own, and most breeders will make you purchase at least 2 at a time

@@thiscrazybird2 well if I get 2 should they both be female as I dont really want to breed them, at least not currently I main want to closely study them.

They do very well in as a pair like that so you shouldn't have a problem. If you have a farm near you to visit, that's the best way to really see what you need and get a feel for the size and strength of these guys. I'm going to add more videos explaining their care in the future to help though!
