  • The fuel icons in modern cars do inform drivers which side to refuel on, but it's not the placement or shape of the fuel icon that carries that information: Nearly all newer models of automobiles include a small arrow or triangle next to the fuel icon that indicates which side of the vehicle bears the fuel door.
I have been driving for many years. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either.
Quick question, what side of your car is your gas tank? You probably can't remember right away especially if you drive more than one car or if you do a rental while on vacation.
My solution was to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definitely have done it in a borrowed or rental car.
A car or truck dashboard fuel level icon indicates which side the vehicle's gas cap is on.

    Hello Dino,
It seems you’ve not been around for a few years hope all is well with you.
....... just found your channel, better late than never ha ha.
I could’ve use this knowledge decades ago but I’m grateful finally for this tip. It’s a small thing but makes a world of difference.
Take care and greetings from Europe

I only clicked this because my girlfriend always says this when we go to the gas station and I can’t remember what side it is. Idk if it’s because I drive a VW Jetta, but mine points to the driver side and my tank is actually on the passenger side.

Dino, why do you Americans call petrol "gas"? In Australia it's called petrol or fuel. We call LPG, gas. Do you have LPG for cars?

we americans are as good at slanging up names as you Aussies..."gas" is shortened "GASOLINE" where LPG here is Propane and diesel is just diesel......" Fuel" could and is used for all products....i know its dodgy but thought you be stuffed at the reply

They used to even put the 'hose' on the gas pump on the correct side (where the filler was), but that was too subtle for people. So they started using a consistent symbol (hose on right), and arrow for 'where it is'.
