This concert was incredible and you should see more of it. There is nothing better than Steve Perry with Journey. His voice, energy and charisma (and his hair). Watch Steve's feet, he always walks to the beat. The band at that time was just perfect and they still had fun together. Steve Smith on drums was awesome, Jonathan Cain on keys was great, Ross Valory on bass was great (always underrated for me) and Neal was a god on guitar anyway. Steve and Neal were such a perfect duo (for me like Axl and Slash)
The drums were meant to be that way. Steve Smith is a Beast drummer. I saw these guys live back in the 80s one of the best ever live acts. I used to pound this song in my Mustangs car stereo back in high school when it came out to get pumped for football practice.
Incredible time for music. Seeing the bands. The song writing and performed by real musicians who crafted their skills to perfection. It was a great time growing up during it. Again, thank you Bisscute for being a new generation to carry it forward.
Yes that drum fill was a time signature change at a bridge in the song.... Journey is a progressive rock band that became more mainstream Popular Rock over time.
5:39 The tempo change was on purpose. Rock stars of the 80's were classically trained, meaning that when learning their instruments, they learned all about Beethoven, Bach and Brahms. If you look back on the classical hits from back in the day, Beethoven especially, stands out on tempo changes.
@warinsidemyhead Rock stars of the 80's were early boomers (born 1940 on). Learning music, in their preteen/early teen years, their adult teachers were classically trained, as were the adults before them and so on. Led Zep, in their earliest incarnation, were inspired by the blues musicians of the New Orleans aria and if you dig, there are recordings of Led Zep playing really old blues. Rik Emmet of Triumph recreated two really old classical pieces as guitar solos. Those of us in the arenas cheered because it was the same music our music profs were pushing on us in class. My prof, one day, in all seriousness, asked me to explain Styx to him.
@@The_Dudester ... It's much more accurate to say that "some" rock stars were versed in the classics. To claim that they were all like that is just conjecture.
@stogie Can you dig up a phrase, somewhere, anywhere, where I said "ALL" rock stars were versed in the classics? Where did I use the word "ALL"? I didn't use that word. Get over yourself.
Should do more Journey they are so good. They got big mid to late 70s. The first song I had heard from Journey was the song Lights. Steve Perry was at a baseball game in San Francisco. The whole stadium sang the song Lights. I believe it was 43 thousand people singing it.
Great selection and reaction. I love Journey as I grew up as a teenager listening to them on the radio and in concert numerous times at their peaks. Steve Perry was a show man and great vocals.
This is my favorite Journey song. I still listen to it about every day. This album, Journey Escape, came out when I was in 9th grade and has probably been my favorite album ever since.
This is a group of my generation Steve Perry is an outstanding singer and front man as you notice in just this clip he never stands still, and he is running from one end of the stage to the other climbing stairs and he’s never out of breath I agree with you watching a concert live during that time. There was no auto tuning. Nothing to fix their voices at all. What you heard is what you got. Most singers today could not even carry attention unless they have their auto tune on and that’s why so many people are finding out that going to live concerts. It doesn’t matter they’re still fixed. The concert in Houston Texas was a Terrific concert for that year My favorite live concert of journey was the 1980 Osaka Japan Also, check out video 1996 when you love a woman
great reaction biss thanx! great song in concert, the band playing live put it all on the stage, love and soul and all! have a nice day! good vibes 2 u and bissnation and everybody!

Hello biss...steve perry's voice is unique..unmistakable...stunning..amazing...one of the best bands of the 80s and 90s ...the golden age of pop rock music...thanks biss..see you..👏👏✌️✌️🫶
I personally think its important to listen to both live and studio versions. Studio versions allow you to perceive the intended outcome of an artistic work, while live performances are more about the interaction with the fans and the actual performance in the profession as an artist.
@@BisscuteReacts I still have 4. Big bangers,,, there like blanket throws but bigger,,,,💖💕💞💞💞💕💖 thank you for your time,,,,, you know you are very pretty,,,,,
@pegajense They tracked alot of their studio work live... the Deaparture album was tracked entirely live, most good bands did back then, because they could, they were pros.
If u listen to songs by Rush, they have so many rhythm and tempo changes... all deliberate. Songs like 'The spirit of radio'... 'A passage to Bangkok' ... 'Circumstances'... 'Driven'... etc. Journey has stellar musicians and they often like to play challenging arrangements.
Really fun song and greatly enjoyed the energy of the performance. Aways enjoy your energy and dancing around to the song, and how much you connect with the songs. I would also recommend checking out some of their performance with Arnel Pineda, he is an impressive lead vocalist too.
I'm 100% with you on the live vs. studio thing.....give me live every time....anybody can sound great on a studio recording....Also, I believe that is Steve Smith on drums....he doesn't make mistakes....You can check him out with Japanese pianist Hiromi Uehara where he plays in her trio.....amazing stuff
For me miss bisscute....even if live or not.but for me old music is gold.so nice choice you did......always take care.gid bless....more plsss.🙏🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
Another 1st listening until you mentioned don't stop believing which i know.I do think that was a key change in the beginning of the song but it really was a great song. No joke! And a great reaction from you as always. Great stuff!!❤
Journey before Steve Perry was an incredible prog rock/fusion band. Journey with Steve Perry was a powerhouse packed with great musicians and songwriters. Journey now, without Steve Perry is a cover band. Only Neal Schon (guitarist) and Jon Cain (keyboards, piano, rhythm guitar) are left from Perry's tenure. Neal is the only founding member left. They play Steve's hits, with a few new songs smattered in there.
I understand you preferring seeing them on a singer or group on stage but remember like in Brothers in Arms by Diar Straits the video for the song can carry a message that an onstage performance can't convey. The other that comes to mind is The Scorpions with Winds of Change. The video for the song in my opinion makes it even more iconic.
Hey Biss, Jim here, I love your reactions and your accent. I was checking out some of your videos and I understand you like the flute. If you want to hear some real rock flute I would suggest Jethro Tull. Jethro Tull is a band from the 1960s that is still putting out albums. The lead singer, Ian Anderson, plays the flute like no one you've ever heard before. I would suggest the live version of My God where he really shows his prowess with the flute. Other good songs by them featuring the flute are Locomotive Breath and Cross eyed Mary. Thanks and keep up the great reactions.

Yes that drum fill was a time signature change at a bridge in the song.... Journey is a progressive rock band that became more mainstream Popular Rock over time.
Believe it or not there is no time signature change. It is still in 4/4 that entire time. But yes, the rhythm and feel totally changes.
