      Yeah, that was after the digital effects company hired to do the truck flip spent 100s of man hours on it, only for Nolan to decide he wanted to go practical after all. The company weren't paid for the unused shot, even though it was complete. Things like that really make me hate Hollywood at times.

      And, afaik, the trigger failing, prompting the Joker to turn and go "wtf", was not scripted. He missed the timing and improvised to save the only take they had.

    • @MCharlesPainting
      @MCharlesPainting 3 месяца назад +5

      You can tell: it's impossible to actually fully recreate those real sounds of rock and metal and fire. Nolan is the best at in-camera effects. Almost every time, it looks better to use real sets and miniatures than even the best CGI (though high-quality make-up and puppets, etc. has been remarkable since at least the 1980s). (Having said that, I'm weirdly pro-early CGI such as with Star Wars 1. It's not great, but it was early, so it's unreasonable to demand any better -- some of it could have been done in-camera, but a lot of CGI is actually required. For this reason, you don't see much truly insane with Nolan other than a few moments, and he has used some CGI, but he tries not to, and never uses digital film, to my knowledge. His high-quality film (of many mm) means that the final look is extremely high-quality at any res, though digital cameras are now high-quality.)

      It’s terribly sad that he died shortly before the release of the film. He never heard the acclaim he received for his portrayal.

  • @glennwelsh9784

    Joker telling different stories about his past is a reference to the comic Batman: The Killing Joke. In it, Joker provides a tragic explanation for how he turned to life of crime and went insane. But afterwards, he recants his story and admits that he doesn't truly remember. He ultimately says, "If I were to have an origin story, I prefer it to be multiple choice." It highlights Joker's unpredictability and how nothing he says can be trusted.

      The best theories states that he did likely grow up in an abusive home, joined the military and became a black ops specialist, he received his scars in a war zone, which may be referenced when he says no one bats an eye at a truck full of soldiers being blown up. His skills all line up with someone trained in the military, and his lack of ID may mean he had his records hidden. Not saying it's true, but it is an interesting idea.

    • @MaaZeus
      @MaaZeus 3 месяца назад +2

      Yup. Although there is one part that is most likely 100% truth because even Batman remembers it as he was there and caused it by accident. It was that the guy, who Joker originally was, was wearing the Red Hood mask and who fell into the vat of chemicals which finally messed him up for good. But what happened before and what led into the person into wearing that mask and be there is unknown.

    The Joker was supposed to be the villain for the third movie, but Heath Ledger died before this one was even in theaters, and they thought it would be disrespectful to re-cast him. So, for the third movie they just don't mention The Joker. They did manage to create a very good villain for that movie as well, but it's hard to watch this movie and not want to see more Heath Ledger as Joker.

    • @pabloc8808

      Ledger was so good, and this movie ended so well, I would've had zero complaints if Nolan never made a third one. I think Rises is the weakest of the trilogy but it's still a really good movie and I love Tom Hardy's portrayal of that movie's villain. Still, if they had ended it here, it would've been a great ending for the story.

    Alfred's speech at 28:22 speaks to a lot of people not only within our American culture in the streets but to humanity as a whole throughout history. People become so traumatized, convinced that they have nothing left to lose, and live to hurt the world while they're still here if not survive long enough to be given lifelong prison sentences for it. Even when it comes to somewhat known up to famous rappers, it takes only one anything to see a whole crash out, and that's human behavior all the way when nothing to lose becomes a reality.

    Fun fan theory about the Joker's backstory: he's an Iraq war veteran, specifically spec ops specializing in intel and interrogation, wounded by an IUD. He preaches chaos, but is very tactical, precise, knowledgeable in multiple weapons and defense tactics, and many other clues. The cherry on top is the line at 48:17 "never start with the victims head it gets all fuzzy and they can't feel the next..*hand slam*" which sounds more like someone with training in the matter instead of a serial killer. "When a truck load of soldiers get's blow up in iraq NOBODY freaks out...because its all part of the plan" and his knowledge of the manual of arms at the funeral are also indicators of military training that not just anyone would know the timing of.

    Hey nice reactions man.
    Just gotta say this real quick because a lot of reactors don't seem to pick up on this.
    In the first Movie Alfred pretty much tells Bruce, that if he does not want people to suspect him being Batman, he should act more like people would expect a billionaire to behave - meaning all the expenisce cars, boats and women are just an Act Bruce pools off to be seen as an eccentric billionaire, that would never fight crime for the people at night.
    It's when Alfred says something along the lines off: ''If you start pretending to have a little fun, you may actually get any''
    And its also refrenced when Bruce meats Rachel the first time after coming back when he says : ''All this... It's not me.... I am more.''
    And Rachel answers with the pretty famous quote: ''It's not who we are underneath, but what we do that defines us.''

    it might have been Heath Ledger's last role in film, but damn did he knock that shit out of the park. i remember being young and not knowing him, so i had no opinion of him being cast as the joker.
    it was wonderful to see with fresh eyes. this was a favored memory of my childhood
    that reminds me - fun trivia for film details. around 32:52 the window springs open, and the sniper shoots the opening blinds, but another gun in the 21-gun salute fires a live round, right at that window. there are two sets of sparks, basically a primed weapon in the Joker's hand.
    takes immense planning to even think of that sort of thing

    Potentially already posted in other comment, but Heath Ledger is actually in the scene where Bruce, Rachel, and Harvey have dinner together. Behind Bruce is the back of a man’s head with wavy brown hair right at the next table. The joker was having dinner in the same restaurant while also tailing Harvey Dent closely. Batman and the Joker were back to back and never even knew it

    Little known fun fact, according to Bob Kane the original creator of Batman "The Joker" throughout all the comic issues, shows, movies, cartoons, even video games and specials "Like the Killing Joke"(HIGHLY RECOMMEND BTW)..., but through everything The joker doesn't actually have an origin story not a real one, he constantly changes his origin story, sometimes it is made to seem as if he was so mentally and psychologically tortured and damage that he's incapable of remembering his real origin to trauma, in other instances is it very much seems as if he's purposely just screwing around with people or doctors who are attempting to psychoanalyze him. Regardless his actual Origin and how he got his scars or his facial deformities / disfigurement, depending on which version you are watching or reading, always changes and they've been pretty clear it's going to stay that way no one will actually know where or how the joker became what he is beyond a rumor. Which I'm sorry maybe I'm alone but I think that is so hard

      @MaaZeus The drugs got him, not this.
      The rest of the cast and crew were very adamant that Heath was himself off camera. He wasn't putting himself in some dark place, he was playing a part and knew when to flip the switch.
      The idea that the Joker role "killed" Heath Ledger is entirely false.

    In my opinion The Joker didn't care who hit the button so if either button was pressed, both ships would blow simultaneously

    • @MaaZeus
      @MaaZeus 3 месяца назад

      Probably, but if he wants to prove a point to others then it would be better if only one ship blows and and he could point the finger and say "see!?". If they both blow up then he has hard time convincing anyone on his way of thinking. More likely the detonator was for the ship it is in and he lied about it. Not only one ship blowing up would prove his point he can get a good laugh about karma being a bitch. 😁
