Not exactly. Black holes have a very hot accretion disk of matter falling into it. This is a disk but it looks warped because the gravity of the black hole bends light from behind the black hole so that it is visible from the front.

So many emotional moments in this movie but poor Romilly after being alone for 23 years...no company, no human touch...had literally had shrunk into himself. The 1st time he sees people in so long when Brand & Cooper goes back to the Endevour, you can just tell he so badly wants a hug or something...but Cooper walks straight past him. Romilly is actually a fascinating part in this movie. Such a small role, but David Gyasi obviously really thought about it and managed to squeeze every drop of reserved intelligence and quiet stoicism out of the portrayal - there's a real stereotypically "British", quality to it and it was no surprise to find out, that's where he's from: however, it wasn't a caricature - he played it straight...
He turned a bit-part into a truly affecting and unforgettable character, and a calling-card to casting Directors.

So when the higher beings(future evolved humans) dismatled the tesseract, they left him just outside of saturn, near where the first wormhole was, that's why he interected(the first handshake) with Dr. Brand in the spaceship, while they were going through the wormhole to the other galaxy.
One thing you need to remember is that, EVERYONE, other than Dr. Brand and Cooper, were 74 years older in the future because of the blackhole. So she would never find Dr. Edmunds because he would've etiher died of lack of supplies or of old age. And Dr. Cooper(daughter) was only alive because of cryosleep.

I think what some people miss is Professor Brand and Dr. Mann are the typical Humans and Coop is the idealistic one; the one we all want to be but few actually turn out to be …
We are selfish and we lie (even with good intentions) to get people to do what needs to be done, in our eyes. Most of us would have pushed the button to get saved, or chose not to go at all.
The hero in a story is special because most of humanity doesn’t behave that way. We’d all like to believe we would, but when the chips are down (in such a way as in these types of stories), we usually make the wrong choice.

This is my favorite science-fiction movie. Few viewers understand the idea behind Cooper’s interactions with the past inside the tesseract. It is not time travel, nor a contrivance of the screenwriters. It is a sound, philosophical idea expressed by Boethius (480-524) in his book, “The Consolation of Philosophy.”
To explain how God’s omniscience can be reconciled with human free will, Boethius conceived the idea that, for God, all time exists simultaneously (because God exists outside of time). Inside the tesseract, Cooper experiences God’s time, which suggests that the fifth-dimensional beings (i.e., our future selves) have evolved to a godlike state. The movie acknowledges this by saying that time exists as a physical dimension in the tesseract. This conception of God’s time is still held today by many Evangelicals and other Christian sects.
I believe the idea is even older, because in Virgil’s “Aeneid,” Aeneas visits the underworld, where all the dead, past and future, exist together.

"The Expanse" is one of the most scientifically accurate shows while "Interstellar" is the most accurate movie.
The poem that Professor Brand as reciting was NOT a clue of any sort. It is simply stating that a person, though they may be dying, should they should continue rage...rage against the dying of the light. Do NOT go gentle into that good night. Do not give up and easily give into death.
SO happy y'all reacted to this!!!! One of my favorite movies ever. I hope y'all will react to Robin Williams' in the movies, "Bicentennial Man" and "Good Will Hunting" or Brad Pitt's movie, "Meet Joe Black". 😄
Dr. Mann kept finding ways to imagine himself of being capable of accomplishing many things and then he kept failing. He thought his planet would be THE next human planet and he'd be the hero of mankind. He thought he'd stay with Cooper while he died; but then got overwhelmed with the consequences of his own actions and gave up. He failed at going forward with the mission because of his own hubris. He was a villain, yes, but I kind of get how/why he went insane. He and the other 11 astronauts left Earth 10 years before Cooper & Brand. He had been alone on his plane for 34 years by the time Cooper, Brand, and Romly get to him. I mean, look what happened to America & other nations after the COVID lockdowns. That was only 3 months & we humans are SO undeniably more messed up than ever before.
The movie is based on an original concept by producer Lynda Obst and theoretical physicist Kip Thorne and is set around 2067. In the event horizon/center of the black hole is a tesseract; a 3 dimensional representation of our future 5 dimensional understanding of time. If Cooper travels “up” or “down” in the tesseract he is able to view different moments in the past and touch the items in each time to communicate with Murphy. Tom, Cooper’s son, had a baby while Cooper was in space, but the baby (Jesse) died early on and was buried out behind the house and later so was Grandpa. Tom died 20 years or so before Cooper made it out of the tesseract and to Saturn. More of the scientific details are in Kip’s book, “The Science of Interstellar”.
The crew's shuttle was being pulled into the spinning black hole that they had named, "Gargantua", and they had no fuel to fly/pull away from it.
Cooper first released the robot, T.A.R.S., into the spinning black hole wanting the robot to try and gather data while traveling through the black hole. This way, if the robot gets found by someone they can try to gather the data and use it.
To prevent Dr. Brand from dying Cooper then released Dr. Brand's shuttle at a specific time so that the spinning black hole's gravity would slingshot/swing her off towards the other planet that they did not have enough fuel to get to using the ship alone.
When Cooper's shuttle gets pulled into the spinning black hole it begins to fall apart because of the strong gravity, but because the black hole was spinning he did not get pulled apart like we would with a stationary black hole. He ejects himself from the shuttle, but quickly falls into a TESSERACT. The tesseract that the future "humans" placed in the black hole for him is a physical representation of a 4th dimension for humans of today to make sense of. In this tesseract he is only seeing different moments in time of his daughter's bookcase. He can go to a time when she's very young or older and try to communicate by pushing her books. At first, he doesn't realize that he needs to help her build the space stations that will eventually house the people from Earth. So, at first, he tries to communicate with her just like the 'ghost' was in the beginning of the movie and he fails to get her to make him stay. When he realizes that this is something he cannot change he realizes he can also communicate with T.A.R.S. He asks T.A.R.S. to take ALL gathered data from the black hole and the future humans and encode it into the movement of Murphy's watch's second hand. Using Morris Code T.A.R.S. is able to share the info with Murphy. The entire time Murphy is doing her work to build the space stations Cooper is in her book case working with T.A.R.S. He is still alive. 😄
Doctor Brand found out that the man she loved had found a planet that humans can live on, but he had died in a landslide. This is why his beacon had stopped earlier in the movie.

Fun fact you are right, the footage that looks old of me he elderly taking about the dust was real interviews for a 1980’s documentary on the dust bowls of the 1930’s that was catastrophic to crops and also had a blyte problem . Nolan refeenced the documentary to make it this a reoccurrence of the trap event and loved the interviews so much he chose to add them into the movie . Genius having older murph in a similar interview to where we don’t realize it’s his daughter talking about it.

Everyone seems to forget about that. This was Dust Bowl 2.0. I always wondered if they refilmed actual first-hand interviews from people who remember the real one.

As for your question about how Cooper was found at the end, when he left the tesseract he went back into the original worm hole (I guess they are connected somehow). That's how he shook Dr. Brands hand because they were both in the worm hole. The entrance to the worm hole is near Saturn, and that's where the wormhole spit him out. When Coop is floating in space you can see Saturn in the background. The giant spaceship from Earth was traveling to the worm hole to bring everyone to Brand's planet. The guy said "our rangers found you". Rangers are usually scouts. They were probably sent out ahead of the spaceship to scout around and they found coop floating.

By the way, all the NASA scenes were actually filmed in Los Angeles at a hotel called the "Westin Bonaventure". They repurposed it to look like a space station.
Also, if you ever saw the movie "True Lies", this is the same hotel where they filmed the famous "horse chase" scene where Arnold Schwarzenegger rode his horse to the roof chasing the guy on the motorcycle. I rode up on the same elevator.

After they leave Earth's orbit, Coop wants to open up. But Brand is apprehensive as she states she doesn't want to talk as much. Coop turns to TARS to ask for his honesty setting, which is at 90%. TARS explains that fully honesty with emotional beings do not lead to accurate and correct decisions. Coop then agrees to 90% with Brand. Fast-forward, Coop withholds information from Brand for the sake of the 'mission'. Que the 90%... That 10% allowed Brand to fully focus on the mission ahead instead of allowing Coop, in her mind, to die for her.

In theory, a "wormhole" is like a tunnel thru space created by a sh*t ton of gravity. Imagine NY and LA connected by a 6 ft tunnel... It's f*cked up, but space can be bent or folded, it is nuts...

It’s crazy to think about a spherical hole, going around and around it until you’re in it 😅

If an anomaly is like a bubble,it shouldn't too difficult.Imagine coming to Earth, and not landing on the Pacific, but going under it.Easy.

I saw this movie multiple times when it came out and don’t really want to put in the near 3 hour journey to see the whole thing, but watching people’s reactions to it is fun lol
