Admiral Raddus is badass. Now watch ANDOR - it's a prequel to Rogue One and stars Cassian Andor (the same guy who died for the cause in Rogue One and is his story about how he came to join the Rebellion).... it was created by the same team who did Rogue One and is arguable the best Start Wars TV show created to-date. You will love it... it makes Star Wars feel believable and have soul. (Obi-One, Acolyte feel like cheap kiddy movies which, to be fair, they were probably aiming at a younger more care free audience) - but ANDOR is Star Wars how you wish it would be, with characters and emotion and you feel invested.
I remember thinking the same thing at the beginning: the heroes would win and all live. Once people start dropping, it clicked that it was a suicide mission. I sobbed in that theater. It took a few years before I could watch it without getting chocked up about it. I believe there is a line in A New Hope that talks about the people who died to get the rebel force that information. This movie puts that sacrifice in context.
Right, it's not the Bothans line, it's the crawl of A New Hope: "During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR..."
This story takes place immediately before _Star Wars: A New Hope_ (1977), which was the first movie of the original trilogy. So technically, it's a prequel, but just barely.
16:55 I case you guys didn't get it, those two aliens are the ones from the first movie that started a fight with Luke in the cantina and one got his arm cut off by Obi-wan.
I saw this in theater with no expectations, not a fan of Star Wars (haven't even watched the others, just bits and pieces to know I don't like them), I was literally just killing time, and I could not believe it. It shook everything in me, a truly great modern movie on its own, independent of the series. And you know everything you guys said about it is exactly how I felt. How Hannah felt emotionally, and how Ash describes the feeling of it being different from the series, just all the same things I felt.
18:01 The "Little Hobbit" is Weeteef Cyubee played by Warwick Davis the same who played the teddy bear like Ewok called Wicket who befriends Princess Leia in the 1983 movie Return of the Jedi when he was 11 years old, and 33 years before Rogue One.
Love your reaction - it was a rough day and this really cheered me up. Forget watching Obi Wan Kenobi and go straight for Andor - the prequel series to this, with the backstory of Cassian Andor and the rise of the rebellion. The best Star Wars media ever!
Funny thing is, storm troopers don't have bad aim. The only times we really see them really "missing" a lot is in episode 4, when they were deliberately letting the rebels escape the death star, and episode 5, on cloud city, when they are trying to lure Luke into a trap for Vader. Both times they were missing on purpose. Other times we see them actually shooting to kill, such as the opening on episode 4, or the battle of Hoth, they decimate the rebels. They are completely one-sided fights.
@@SyntheticCKleia literally says right after they escape the death star, that their escape was to easy, and Han says something like, nah don’t worry about it. Then Lo and behold, the empire actually planted a tracker on the falcon, leading them directly to the rebel base. Hmm, almost as if it was planned. If you wonder how good the stormtroopers actually are, watch the opening of a new hope. Breaching through a chokepoint held by at least 10-15 people zeroed in on the door, absolutely destroying them in seconds, with 2-3 casualties. Thats insane from a tactical perspective. Someone broke down their shot accuracy in that scene, and it came out at like 25-30 % of shots hitting their target. Thats a LOT, btw.
I recommend Andor, the prequel show to this prequel movie, as well. Its first and so far only season is probably the best written and acted piece of Star Wars media. It is structured in multiple story arcs, so its watched best in 3-4 episodes at a time. Season 2 will release next year.
BEST DISNEY STAR WARS, and best looking star wars of all time. Pissed me off that vader didn't just grab the ship at the end with the force which he can easily do. Awesome reaction!
Some Easter Eggs. The two aliens, balls on the chin and nose. They were both in the first film, A New Hope, where they accosted Luke Skywalker in the cantina. Some of the lead rebel pilots of Red and Gold Squadron were the same pilots who were killed in the attack in the Death Star trench in A New Hope, using unused footage from the first film, and the sacrifice of Rogue One mentioned in the opening prologue.
Loved your reaction. You were asking for a prequel. It's the show Andor. I think it's is the best piece of Star Wars media made. I like it more than any of the films. Ash, you want to to take the bad guys seriously, it's your show. It will blow you away.
Thank you Ash for another youtube video, i know it took a long time to get this edited, appreciate all the work you do to make these reactions possible, looking forward to watching this reaction and many more in the future
Ash you summed it up the best way possible "whoever worked on this movie should have their own trilogy". The person I would rely on is the writer for this movie and the director. Tony Gilroy wrote the script and he also directed another star war title called andor, i recommend you watch Andor, that show is fantastic. Tony Gilroy is the main man in my opinion to trust a star wars trilogy.
I watched this at the movies, I cried so much... definitely, the best Star Wars movie ever, the most realistic, and the one movie that really captured the essence of Vader.
The "LEGO medals," aren't medals. They're rank insignia. Also, fun fact...this entire movie was based on a single sentence in the opening crawl of the original Star Wars film.
one of the funniest moments from star wars reactions episode 4 Ash says Darth Vader is super up tight and imitates him "You will give me the plans or I will torture you now!" and is pointing just the funniest shit ever
Lot of details in this one! Donny Yen is what is known as a guardian of the whills. The whills were powerful ancient force users. Their guardians didn't control the force but were sensitive to it. In his case he could see through it. Saw Guerrera played a big role in the clone wars show. The separatists took over his world and he and his sister built a force to fight back. As they became successful the occupation became crueler and he got more extreme. Eventually he basically became a traveling rebellion building resistances against oppression all over Also the balls on nose/chin pair were the ones obi wan cut the arm off in episode 4. There are a lot of types of storm troopers based on environment (done trooper, sand trooper). The ones in black are special forces called death troopers. Only higher rank are the red ones who are the emperor's guard. For the accuracy it's fun to remember early troopers were clones who were experts. As time passes you have more regular soldiers among them. Loved the reaction, just was waiting for it to clock none of these chats were in the next movies in the timeline.
There is a comic called "Vader Down" and Vader crashes on a planet and gets surrounded by a lot of Rebel troopers and tanks/guns and they call on him to surrender because he's surrounded. His reply? "I am only surrounded by *fear* and *dead men.* "
Darth Vader´s dark tower is in Mustafar. The same planet where Obi Wan defeated him leaving limbless and burned. Those angry memories helped him to become stronger.
This gorgeous movie’s cinematographer was Greig Fraser, who also shot both Dune movies! Also you guys need to watch Andor next. More Cassius! And another awesome robot.
Beyond explaining the Death Star's weakness(which didn't need explaining) I loved that Rogue One also explained why the rebels had so few ships for the Death Star battle, that is that they lost the majority of their fleet in the Battle over Scarif.
Gareth Edwards and his creative team discovered some old film canisters while rummaging around the Lucasfilm warehouses. When he asked what they were, an employee said they were old Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) footage. The discovery led to the inclusion of unused Episode IV material featuring Red Leader and Gold Leader in this movie.
I absolutely love Star Wars Rogue One: a Star Wars story. One of the rare gems to come out of Star Wars franchise that can stand on it’s own. The story is enduring and the characters are wonderful. Just a shame the magic can’t be repeated in subsequent stories.
You'll probably never saw this but I saw quite a lot of people recommending THE MAZE RUNNER and since you guys really enjoyed THE HUNGER Games I think you should definitely watch the maze runner which has the same dystopia vibe than hunger games and I know you'll love it. I pray you'll see this. Love from France.
When I saw this at the theater, we cheered and clapped throughout the movie. The producers went to Skywalker Ranch and found some unused footage from the original Star Wars movie and put it in. The space battle when Red and Gold Leader check in is that unused footage.
@Justtrust Ash After the horror show of the election here for many of us, I needed 2 hours to smile again and see you both fall in love with a brilliant stand alone film. It was nice to smile again.... thank you Ash and Hannah both
It is crazy how much the Tarkin stand in looked like Cushing, they could have just done some sallow cheek makeup and it would be hard to tell, instead of spending all that money on the realest CG face that so many people complained took them out of the movie
When that breathing in the dark hallway started, the gasp in the theater followed by the nerdgasm screaming of us all, is one of my favourite cinema experiences ever. I tell people that this entire film is worth the time just for the 20 seconds we get to see of why the entire galaxy was terrified of Lord Vader and why Sith Lords seemed like demigods to the average person.
When this movie came out in theaters, Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) had very recently passed away. The final scene was even more emotional seeing her at the very end. Not a dry eye in the theater at the first showing.
Just a side note about Saw...during the Clone Wars the separatists overthrew the king who ruled the planet Onderon, forcing the planet to break from the Republic and join the CIS (the side with all the "roger, roger" battle droids.) Saw and his sister Steela led a pro-Republic resistance movement and ultimately cooperated with a Jedi mission on the planet to help arm and train them. Working together they were able to defeat the separatists and restore the rightful king, although Steela died in the last moments of the battle. Steela was the reasonable and calm sibling, while Saw was the headstrong, aggressive one. Immediately after the Clone Wars ended, the Galactic Empire was declared bringing the Republic to an end. With his sister dead (she was the one he kept him calm and restrained,) and the Republic fallen, Saw continued to fight, but now against Imperial occupation. The empire sent special forces to Onderon to wipe out the resistance fighters and Saw and other survivors had to flee. He's been running around for the 20 years since then blowing shit up, assassinating people, stealing shit and generally being a total nuisance. Even the Alliance to Restore the Republic (that's the official name of the rebels, or the Rebellion, or the Rebel Alliance or whatever you want to call them,) won't work with him anymore because he's "too extreme." The feeling is mutual though, since Saw views the Alliance as a bunch of pansies just cosplaying as revolutionaries. This is what he's talking about when he says that he won't run anymore. He's been fighting since his late teens and he's just...tired. There's some really good moments with Saw in the Disney+ show, "Andor," which is the prequel to this movie and probably the best Star Wars show made so far. You guys should totally react to that. Its only a two season limited series and season one is already available (they're putting the finishing touches on season two right now.)
If you guys REALLY want to know why and how Saw became an extremist, you'll need to watch the animated Clone Wars and Rebels series'. Do NOT discount any of the animated series. They contain some great storytelling (even though there IS some "filler" episodes here and there). I made that mistake, and regretted it once I watched them all. Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Rebels... all great shows. The same with the live action shows.... they are awesome! And they help fill in much of the lore that you are missing at this point. 22:25 - Saw refused to "run", because he knew he was no longer capable of such movements. Had the rest waited for him, they ALL would have died. So, he died as he lived: "For the cause". 50:00 - That "Vader hallway" scene had the entire theater I was in going NUTS! For context, pretty much everyone in this movie (aside from a few cameos from Episode IV unused footage) were doomed, as they were not in any movies past this part of the timeline. It was a risky move for Disney/Lucasfilm to do at the time, but a VERY well appreciated one! Almost all SW fans agree that Rogue One is the best theatrical offering they have given us since taking over the property. If you go and watch the animated series, you will notice even more cameos in this movie, if you look close. About the CGI characters: Peter Cushing's estate gave permission to use his likeness, as did Carrie Fisher directly (she was still alive at the time). This movie is about the hardship of war. The sacrifice of "the common person". The "unsung heroes", who sacrificed everything so that the "named heroes" could finish the job. It is, so far, the BEST SW movie of the Disney era, bar none. Lastly, the "Andor" series is a prequel to this series, and I highly recommend it.
Just so you know, there is another Spinoff movie called Solo: A Star Wars Story. It focuses on a younger Han Solo (different actor for obvious reasons) It doesn't necessarily progress the plot of Star Wars (at least from the other media we've seen) but it's still a fun time imo. 💜

@PowderedToastMan420 but none of them were bothans
@@PowderedToastMan420that was referring to the info on the second Death Star (in Return of the Jedi), not the original one.
Right, it's not the Bothans line, it's the crawl of A New Hope: "During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR..."
Andor is an absolute must watch if you loved this, please throw them up on Hannah's channel if not here!
!!!
Nice. I'm 53 and for most of my life, as with most of my generation, 'Empire' was always the greatest Star Wars movie possible... And then I saw this.
Same.
Personally think this is so much better than any of the last 3 trilogies w/ Rey and the end hallway scene w/ Vader seals the deal
Rogue One was the only Disney SW film worthy of the franchise.
What about Solo: a Star War Story?
@@andersonii4478 Solo is amazing too but people on the internet have decided its bad so now youre not allowed to enjoy it
Andor is amazing too.
Clone Wars, the final season is well worth a watch. Also, Andor.
Andor, Solo, Clone Wars, Rebels, Tales of the Jedi…. i’d say SW is in safe hands.
Love your reaction - it was a rough day and this really cheered me up. Forget watching Obi Wan Kenobi and go straight for Andor - the prequel series to this, with the backstory of Cassian Andor and the rise of the rebellion. The best Star Wars media ever!
Tony Gilroy is a blessing in the Disney Era of Star Wars. The Empire has never been more vicious and cruel as depicted here and especially in Andor.
People will spin anything. It's just a movie trope to avoid killing the main characters in the first 10 minutes of a movie.
@SyntheticCK it's not a spin. They literally spell it out in the movie
@@tarroes8797 Sure sure. And every other time it's just a coincidence. I guess the trash compactor missed on purpose too.
@@mattiasandersson8693 iirc, it was around 110 shots per kill. Compared to a US soldier where the average was around 200,000 rounds per kill.
This is the difference between reaction people. The ones with empathy feel what the characters feel.
I recommend Andor, the prequel show to this prequel movie, as well. Its first and so far only season is probably the best written and acted piece of Star Wars media. It is structured in multiple story arcs, so its watched best in 3-4 episodes at a time. Season 2 will release next year.
I love when its clearly coincidence or Irony, or an Analogy, or a synonym and he says: "Symbolism" its like watching Persian Damon Waynes
we gotta get him a big poster with different literary terms and their meanings
I’m mourning here in USA so happy to see this drop. Love y both
Ah yes, everybody's favorite classic robot... CP3FO.
I found that a bit silly in its small-world aspect, but whatever. It's fine.
FALSE Obi Wan did not kill any of them. Evazan wasnt even harmed by him and Ponda Baba survived
Obi-Wan only disarmed him, 😂
I stand corrected. I assumed that 46 years ago.
Loved your reaction. You were asking for a prequel. It's the show Andor. I think it's is the best piece of Star Wars media made. I like it more than any of the films. Ash, you want to to take the bad guys seriously, it's your show. It will blow you away.
I like when you two watch films... Cassian told me I had to.
;)
In every star wars movie someone always says "I've got a bad feeling about this..."
I love y'all's reaction and this one I didn't expect but I bet I will love it. This is my favorite star wars storyline. 😢
Ash, the Andor series was written by Tony Gilroy. He was the screenplay writer for ROUGE ONE. ✌️
*Rogue
Dude, if you're going to type this comment multiple times here, at least spell it right.
Hannah, when you realised thd Rogue crew was doomed. I just wanted to hug you when you started crying. 😢 ❤
@43:16 @Hannah becomes a true Starwars fan .... she gets it I actually got tears 😢 for her bc I feel it too.
Eventually he basically became a traveling rebellion building resistances against oppression all over
Also the balls on nose/chin pair were the ones obi wan cut the arm off in episode 4.
His reply?
"I am only surrounded by *fear* and *dead men.* "
This is one of my favorite reactions I've seen, yall are the best!
Rogue One in my opinion is the best Star Wars movie ever made outside of the original trilogy and it ranks right up there with the original trilogy
Very educational. Thanks Ash and Hannah. I just found out your lyrics to your theme song. Thanks guys. Love ash and Hannah. Great reaction.
I love you guys' reactions. You always make me smile, so thanks and happy vacation ❤
"Vader Breathing Sound's" Boom Saber Ignites ❤️💙🌋 Can't wait for This one🤘
Hannah: "I'd rather see a prequel,"
lucky us, there's a prequel tv series, Andor, and it's incredible. ❤ WAY better than Obi Wan, at least imho.
@Justtrust Ash After the horror show of the election here for many of us, I needed 2 hours to smile again and see you both fall in love with a brilliant stand alone film. It was nice to smile again.... thank you Ash and Hannah both
Hannah and these thumbnails! 😂
She looks like she needs a laxative 😂❤
It is crazy how much the Tarkin stand in looked like Cushing, they could have just done some sallow cheek makeup and it would be hard to tell, instead of spending all that money on the realest CG face that so many people complained took them out of the movie
Can’t wait for the reactions 😂😱
I’m saying it now, Ash will absolutely love the Andor series
When that breathing in the dark hallway started, the gasp in the theater followed by the nerdgasm screaming of us all, is one of my favourite cinema experiences ever. I tell people that this entire film is worth the time just for the 20 seconds we get to see of why the entire galaxy was terrified of Lord Vader and why Sith Lords seemed like demigods to the average person.
When this movie came out in theaters, Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) had very recently passed away. The final scene was even more emotional seeing her at the very end. Not a dry eye in the theater at the first showing.
K-2SO was instantly my favorite droid back then...
Second is HK-47. 😜
K2 is no where near as badass as HK47.
@@GreenFalcon926 Of course, but i love K2's sarcasm. 🤪
And he got one of the most heartbreaking endings of all...
Cant wait for you to watch the rest of the movies!
The best star wars movie after the original trilogy. Andor was also a great show. Highly recommended watching that.
Ash, Hannah, I'm really excited for you to watch the Obi-Wan series, and as people before me have said, then you MUST watch Andor afterwords.
OH HELL YEAH!! Been waiting for this! This is gonna be EPIC. I know this before even watching the video because Ash never disapoints.
And I was not wrong. Another banger reaction.
PS: Sands of Time is still AMAZING. The ending song "Time Only Knows" still lives in my head rent free.
That thumbnail is wild
Rogue One/New Hope = Amazing 5 hours of Star Wars
A reminder that the reason we all like this movie is because it based on previous work and lore🔥
Loved it guys - people need to put respect on Cades name.. btw there’s a series about cassian called Andor
Hanna gotta love ANDOR
hannah really got worked up in this one entertaining as always yall are awesome
That thumbnail is nasty work 😂
Bro Hannah acting like she's directly next to all of the characters in real life as they're dying lol. She gets SO invested!
This is the best Starwars movie in recent history.
Unpopular opinion: this is the best Star Wars movie.
Don't forget in new hope.Mon mothma said a lot of rebels sacrificed their lives for these plans... symbolism
I forgot star wars fully gone yet. If they get to those star wars, we'll see
Speaking of Mads Mikkelsen, I think he’d be a perfect Dracula. With his good looks, accent, gray locks. And he’s got fangs
It's C...3...... P.......O, you guys keep saying "CP30" and it's driving me fucking crazy
Rogue One is probably one of the most underrated SW movies of the franchice.
