Arguably the most legendary restaurant in Kollam City, Fayalwan Hotel is located on Main Road, right at the heart of the city. Mutton dishes are the must try items from this place along with the afternoon meals they serve. Although open from 8 am to 9:30 pm the best time to visit this restaurant will be during their afternoon lunch hours.

Fayalwan, which means Wrestler in Malayalam is a peculiar name to give to a restaurant, that too for one as legendary as this, unless there is a story behind it. The founder of this restaurant, Muhammad Kunju was a wrestler himself and has great respect for the game. Back in the glory days of wrestling, this restaurant right in the middle of the city acted also as wrestling center. Muhammad Kunju used to bring great wrestlers to the city and make them stay at the restaurant and conduct wrestling matches on the ground behind the restaurant.
Now, wrestling was not the main reason this restaurant enjoyed an iconic status among others in the district. The dishes served at this restaurant, especially their mutton dishes and the afternoon meals served made this place a favorite among their patrons. Mutton Curry and Mutton Biriyani are two of the most demanded dishes from their mutton dishes.
Afternoon meals served at this place along with various side dishes and a very reasonable price tag gave them a regular customer base, most of whom are employees at the nearby establishments. Fish curry is the most noticeable dish in the items served in their meals, which made the overall dish so appealing to their customers at this price.
Fayalwaan restaurant is located on Main Road right in the middle of the city and has an own parking area, which is extremely convenient given the fact that the Main road is one of the most congested streets in the city, with one way travel only.
This restaurant has been recently renovated to cope up with the standards of present time. Now they have two main dining areas, one of them air conditioned. The whole restaurant is partitioned with small wooden partitioning to give their customers more privacy. Tables with granite tops and wooden chairs with cushioned seats are arranged to give comfortable dining experience.
They have decorated the restaurant with the photos of famous fayalwans and colored mirrors that depicting various poses of fayalwans engaged in combat. Although the times have changed and the glory days of wrestling in Kollam are gone, this restaurant still stands tall among other buildings on Main Road, serving their patrons with ever delicious dishes.
