      They build up endurance and learn how to play efficiently.

    • @wbrenner2
      @wbrenner2 4 года назад +18

      Some of us have to work harder for endurance.
      I was a returning player. I played some exercises daily, and was starting to play in a few groups. Range was improving, and I was getting to play lead in some jazz big bands.
      One night, after work, I went to the parking garage to warm up before going to rehearsal. A security guard approached me, and instead of chastising me for making noise, he talked trumpet. He was impressed with my sound, told me that he played some trumpet also. He probably played twice a week for bit, and not with any groups. He subsequently told a friend who lead a big band about me, saying that I should be considered. I later played with that group.
      A few months later, I visited him at my while he was working on a Saturday, and we played some intermediate level etudes. After each duet, I would talk a bit. It gave a few minute break before the next etude, but he didn't need that. Not fair! I practiced and played much more than him, and there was no argument that I was playing at a higher level. But his endurance in the mid register beat mine.

      O' Lizards False, Wayne Bergeron is not only the greatest upper-register player in the band, but propably also the greatest in the world.

    • @jarrettc2490
      @jarrettc2490 7 лет назад +7

      No literally, I had my tuner out. It was about the same note. If you're saying Wayne is the best, then you haven't heard enough of the others, especially James he blasts double C's constantly with wonderful tone.
      Not saying Wayne can't do that, but they're all really equal on range.

    • @theawesomealbin
      @theawesomealbin 7 лет назад +17

      O' Lizards Yeah they all play the same tone, but who has the clearest tone? Wayne. Who Holds the tone the longest? Wayne. Who is said to be the prodigy of Maynard Ferguson? Wayne. The evidence is clear...

    • @jarrettc2490
      @jarrettc2490 7 лет назад +1

      Depends on who you ask, I repeat you have to listen to them all before you draw an asinine conclusion. The time doesn't really matter, they were improvising meaning they could play as high as they want for as long as they want, the guy on the far left and far right even beat out Wayne on range just in general.
      Check out "Snappy Too" zogs jog, james morrison, he has a trumpet solo where he holds Double C for a good bit of time. And I could list the rest of them for you, but you need to listen for yourself.
      They're all about equal on range, tone is a matter of preference.

    I've met and heard both Wayne B and James Morrison live. Wayne is an incredible lead trumpet player. James is the best jazz "musician" in the world. I love the ending of this chart. Look at Wayne holding back for the final few high register notes. James plays the entire run up and matches Wayne on the very last note, to the surprise and laughter/respect of everyone else in the trumpet section. Monster player...

    • @austinbass6239
      @austinbass6239 10 лет назад +12

      ***** Actually, that's incorrect in a big band setting. A lead player in a big band situation is simply the player that has the highest part in the section. They're the ones that have to play all the high and loud stuff. That does not mean they are necessarily the best player overall, they are just very suited to playing high, loud things. Most times the soloist is on the 2nd part because the lead part is so demanding they need to save their chops. This is very different from a classical ensemble such as an orchestra where the soloist is in fact the Principal/first chair and is generally voiced the highest, although they often have the 3rd/4th chair in an assistant principal role to help them not become tired out.

THEY are out of this WORLD. Here are some of their names: Hot 8, Rebirth, Treme, etc. They are legion and have been growing in number ever since many of the old timers saw the art being lost and not passed on to the youth. They took it upon themselves to teach them and now it's being passed on. They can be seen on Sundays in Second Lines, at birthday parties, graduations, weddings, funerals, parades. I LOVE NOLA !!!!
