Dreagle The description Gordon Goodwin gives of this song is how the guys on the back row, the trumpet section, are competitive for gigs in the L.A. area in a way that's very political.
I've always thought it was about the internal squabbling of a trumpet section. There aren't many sections that don't have at least some back-row politics between players going on about "who is the best", "who can play highest" etc.
@@sallozano15 that's cool! I wasn't implying that it wasn't received well by Gordon, I just didn't want to assume one way or the other. Each band and director has a different dynamic.
@@ericmatthews3780 Music is supposed to be fun. That's why we do it right? I know that every member of that band has about 2 or 3 dozen stories of things that can have you rolling with laughter. And.... at the same time, play great music with great friends and have fun. I'll tell a few some time.
So glad I was there to see I this happen live. Not a huge music guy, but I drove a group of our HS band members from a nearby school there and got to see this show. Wow!
This is WHY we trumpet players are always in the back row! OUTSTANDING!!! Great music and one of the best laughs I've had in a LONG time....thanks for sharing a great video!
Been away from music for quite a while, but this reminds me of the fantastic times I had whilst playing in a band. What a hoot, it made me really laugh from deep down. Thanks for posting this video, it made my day. :-D
Talk about the joy and vibrancy of liver performance! This is so much better than a recording and the energy of the whole band immediately following the dropped trou to the end is just awesome! Playing any chart no matter how captivating can become routine. I'll wager this performance and the rest of the gig was anything but routine and will live on in stories from the band.
Alex Kim. They have read that chart many times. The fumbling of the music and stuff is all part of the gag. It's a tough chart. Even when Wayne and Summers are with the band they have their eyes focused on the music. It's the true mark of a professional musician. You never know when something is going to get cut at the last min . A whole section taken out. A repeat skipped. It might get written in while everyone is at dinner and a brief announcement at call time on the changes or no announcement on the changes.
Fun vid; I just started playhing this with my big band. I may never get that 16th note rune - but I'm not the only one in the section who can't nail it. If I can get off a decent solo I'm happy.
Michael Abasta Too subtle to be a joke. He switched because he couldn't hit the high notes with the mouthpiece he was using. He even pulled the slide out to adjust for the smaller cup size of the cheater mouthpiece he used. He also switched earlier at around 5:51, so hard to say what was going on there.
Lol I'm a trumpet player, and I'm amazed that they can play while cracking up! It's impossible for me at least to play while laughing or even smiling.
Can't get over how hard they were laughing afterwards, man that must've been fun to watch
its called backrow politics because if you think about it its almost like the trumpets are arguing back and forth like politicians
Dreagle Gaming yep, just arguing, no actual benefits just....a load of arguing

And trumpets are usually in the back

Trumpet players always keep it classy. Well done, gentlemen!
That's one hell of a high notes contest.
One of the funniest things I have seen. Proud to be a part of it
Obviously it had you guys absolutely rolling at the time, but I'm curious as to whether it had any professional consequences after?
@@ericmatthews3780 Ask Gordon. He was laughing so hard he was unable to play the piano. The audience liked, we liked, who's the victim there??

Willie Murillo knocks me out! They all have great chops.
He was my clinician for a jazz festival!!!

People take themselves too seriously.. true pros like them who are really frickin great still KNOW how and when to have a laugh. Love this video!!!

I think the pants thing was spontaneous, though.......
@@Drchainsaw77 I do too, 'cause it happened to me once. I got 'em back up before the audience noticed, and nobody said anything about it.
didn't know Gabe had a trumpet hobby.
always knew we were like brothers...
When the 4th trumpet quotes rhapsody in blue at 5:07
This may have to become a permanant part of the act.
some serious chops there.
Five years later I finally get it. It's comedy; not music. Very funny. The trumpet player covers the eyes of the flute player. Hilarious.
Geez, subs.......Now what is Wayne going to have to do to top that?
i love this band and this composition sooo much
Somewhere a symphony player is crying with a sour look on his face. Lol
nah
Straight COOKING WITH FIRE!! NO PANTS!
I've shed my pants to music before but never like this :)
This video brings me so much joy
5:07 that's straight out of Gershwin's book
Chad Shoopman, Willie Murillo, Dan Fornero, Dan Savant.
Wow that was great and funny as hell!

I was at that concert! They put on an awesome show!
Wow, pretty even those guys. They are all fantastic...
Youre right. Hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
Exceedingly notable video on the whole. Thanks a lot.
The House of Jokes "Notable"
That was a lot of fun to see and listen
I was in the 3rd row that night it was hilarious !!!
I love Big Phat Band!
Still sounds amazing even when corpsing- true professionalism!!

My high school band did a studio session with the heavy set guy down in Disney
Well done, Chad.
Willie Murillo is so amazing :D!
he is at my school like literally playing in my school search up la down under and westminster is my school
I wish they would come to my high school.
Просто СУПЕР!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never could get Shoop to do that in my U of A band.
5:06 Gershwin 🤙
Yes Leland, I am always objectively pissed 😡
Great show!!
All I want at this point is a written dialogue of what everyone proceeded to say to each other during the last half of this.
I would settle for whatever Gordon had to say to transition to the next song just after this clip cuts off.
those guys are pretty good!
BAHAHAHAH! That's priceless!
To wanna see them play this, with the trumpets being wayne, chad, Willie, and Dan f. That would be crazy!
dont miss Wayne much.. good job guys...
what a brave cameraman!
It's good when it's fun, and fun when it's good.
BRAVISSIMO !"
Super Band!!!👍👍👍👍😉😉😉😉
My, oh my! Why doesn’t this vid have more views?!

*SPETTACOLARE*
I think Chad just wanted the flutes to stop playing!
Grandi trombettisti 👏👏👏👏👏👏
super bravo :D
7:20 the mouthpiece change so trumpet
Yes. FUNNY as all!!! 🙂
Anyone know why the chap next to Chad swaps his mouthpiece at about 7.20?
Might be for that big shake they have at 7:40
lol wow didnt even notice that
Im pretty sure its a joke about when trumpet players think the mouthpiece they are using is not working for them.

I dont believe in cheater mouthpieces.
sureal music
Chad Shoopman did great filling in for Wayne Bergeron
I'm curious to know what Gordon thought of the whole thing.
イイパッセイジダ!
ラブソティーインブルーwwwww
I bet they've been through this numerous times and probably know it pretty well. My comment was supposed to be tongue/cheek anyway tho, heh.
Murillo never fails to impress
Your right.

what note does he play at 5:48 ?
Bb
Funny watching the reaction to the Rhapsody in Blue riff.
Mac Tek That was in the studio recording as well lmao
OMG🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think I see Chad reach down with one hand as he makes the turn into the drop trow. Maybe intentional me thinks?
lol, they dont have to have it memorized . its a performance at a highschool. not a huge stage. they might even be sightreading .
Great performance, but God made suspenders for a reason!
Not intentional.
Is that Dan Fornero?

yes , he is dan fornero
great tp player!!!
the left is Chad shopman?
Yes! :D
