It was my distinct privilege to see the then lineup around 15 years back when they graced the local Chicago suburban stage to perform in the annual Elmhurst College (now University) Jazz Fest in a February winter setting. Mr. Goodwin and his band/players delighted the audience and graced us by chatting after their performance. I got the treat of a lifetime to say hello to one of my guitar heroes in the jazz world, Mr. Grant Geissman, who was with the Big Phat back then. God bless, Gordon.
i play lead in a big band myself, and i have a dream. and that dream is to become somewhat close to Bergeron. You are a huge inspiration mr.Bergeron! Thanks you for sharing this video!
Dear Mr or Mrs Sebbethy, A friend steered me to your nice comment here. Thanks for the great advice! If you'd like to drop by to play this piece for me sometime, I'd love to hear your version. I could use a few pointers. First, I want to u to play 6 of the most difficult lead parts ever written. Then I'd like you to pick up your picc and play this first 2 2/12 pages of this. Don't stop there, then play the rest of this chart-Head, two solo sections, soli with saxes, shout chorus, cadenza, then a double B at the end. It's definitely not a perfect performance by any means. But at the at moment in time, it was the best I could do. It faceless internet trolls like you that keep most pro players from getting involved in music discussion on line. I guess it back to the old saying...If you don't have any thing nice to say...Shut the F*ck up. Hugs, WB
Wayne Bergeron Well said, Wayne! Being a former professional trumpet player, I know how difficult a show like this is. And there's no way I could ever play stuff like this with the absolute masterful playing you exhibit here. And quite frankly, I enjoyed your pic playing. That part is really all over the place! Very fine job, sir! There's a reason trolls like this douchbag aren't top-call players, or successful pros period...and let me see...last time I checked, you are! Every time you put the horn to your face, or speak to a group of aspiring players, you influence and inspire them in ways no one else can. Just thought I'd throw my $0.02 in...Thanks for all you do. Dan
How does any human not crack at least one note on this? Oh yeh, it's no human, it's Wayne Bergeron.
Years of Therapy from his teacher

Damn, as a trumpet player I could feel the struggle at the end. Wayne is a freaking legend
Wayne is so hot. I knew him when he was in Jr. High. He showed great promise then and and still gets better all the time. Go Wayne Go. You're tops!
This is why Wayne is first call. And the rest of the band is not too shabby.
ModernMarvel101 Eric Marienthal is one of the best jazz sax players alive
Modernmarvel101 they are arguably the best big band on earth. (I hope that wasn’t an r/woosh)
Goodness this is absolutely incredible!
Absolutely amazing!.. Wayne is doing us all a favor by playing this stuff! Thank you Wayne Bergeron!..
It really looks like the drummer is using his left hand to play the bass.
Holy Hi Notes Batman ! Wayne Bergeron is from another planet! He is out of this world. Incredible musician for sure.
Wayne is perfection.
Gordon Goodwin should better call this song "The Wayne Bergeron Show"! just WOW!
The album version sounds great but nothing beats the awestruck gasps of the crowd.
I have all of their albums. I still can’t watch enough of this video. I hope they will come to New York

I've played Catalina before, and somehow heard some of these notes bouncing back from the back walls... and I guarantee that they weren't mine!
I refuse to believe it's possible.
