- Check this out... My son Austin and I were at the Catalina Jazz Club on September 15, 2014 when Gordon Goodwin invited Arturo Sandoval out of the audience to come up and join the Big Phat Band and play with them on their final number "Race To The Bridge". Arturo comes up and apparently only has his mouthpiece but no horn with him. One of the guys gives Arturo a trumpet but his mouthpiece was swimming in the receiver of that horn so Wayne Bergeron gives him one of his horns. Arturo just put that horn to work like it was his own, doing his thing and what he does best...making that trumpet sing with awesome jazz flourishes in an entertaining rhythmic fashion. The entire band was already hot all night long and having Arturo come up and play just added even more sizzle. What a treat it is to see and hear all of these top notch all pro musicians create todays awesome big band sound. Thank you Big Phat Band for another enjoyable and entertaining musical evening. Ted V.
Why's no one talking about Eric Marienthal's solo??? He's absolutely killing it!
Brass is important
Nothing special, he kills every solo he gets
So 4 lead trumpet players on this performance. Dan fornero willie Murillo Wayne and Arturo
@@hughpenner5051 he sure can play lead charts if he chooses to
@@hughpenner5051 not like the way arturo does it. he played lead before...check out dizzy united orchestra jazz band. arturo played lead and solo. its on DVD....now youtube
This is a classic video. Gordon Goodwin and his group are a collection of some of the greatest and most talented musicians on the planet. And to top it off they invite Arturo Sandoval to come up and play. The rest is history. Thank you Ted V. for sharing this incredible video. Doug Skinner
no warm up, then playing like that Arturo..... very nice!
Please explain what warm-up is, oh that's right it is something plebs convince themselves they need to do before a gig!
@@brucebromley241 it is suggested though
@@brucebromley241 with trumpet and brass instruments it’s very difficult to play with a cold mouthpiece, guess it’s something you know with experience
3 quick observations ....
1) Love the chart
2) The alto solo was insane
3) Arturo always plays as though he's getting paid by the note.
*Solos:*

5:21 anyone notice gordon's followup to arturo
Yup, wish they would have kept going back and forth. 😁
Super jazz band!!! Super music style bi bop!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Wow! What a wonderful band of performers, and of course, Mr. Sandoval came in to add icing to the wonderfully delicious cake.
I did not know Mr. Sandoval also played the piano and after seeing him play Windmills of Your Mind on Piano, he blew me away!
Arturo is a prodigy, a genius, and probably he greatest trumpeter who has existed so far.
And with no warm up? Amazing!
That's why I like Arturo Sandoval. He's not just trying to be the best in the stage he is always ready. But also that the stage be embarrassed, trying to always enjoy music, is modest.
cleanly articulation in the bone solo
Andy Martin and my band played there together a few months ago!!! It was awesome!!!
Andy Martin's time is incredible.
Impresionante y Extraordinaria es esta reunión de Maestros de la Música . Bendiciones 🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sal Lozano's facial expressions during solo's always crack me up!! 😂
Ooh man this tune arrangements are super crazy 😵😵😵😵😵🎺 perhaps over the top? how do they do it!!? Attacks are soooo precise! I wish I can ever reach that level of precision
Wow Andy Martin and Arturo. Amazing solos!!!!!
Solo trompet wonderful, sax wonderful!!! 👍👍👍😉😉😉
Amazing 👏
thanks for share
Awesome!!!
Goose bumps!
Brian Scanlon telling that guy to turn his flash off. Great
At Andy Martin's solo reminded me of Wycliff Gordon. Especially at 8:25
Zach Mejia Specifically his Cherokee song
Andy Martin absolutely crushin it!!!
Wow what a coincidence Arturo just happened to have his horn with him YEA SURE !!! By the way Eric Marienthal is the man !!!
You mus be blind, he had his mouhpiece wich is a very common thing o have for a trumpet player, the trumpe was hamded by a band member
Arturo, do you think the altissimo F on the final chord could have been just the tiniest bit sharp?
Mutato Nomine *Flat
Hot Damn!
The Big Phat Band is made up of some of the best musicians on the planet, and Arturo Sandoval is incredible. He studied under Dizzy Gillespie. Arturo put on an amazing show at the Ventura Music Festival several years ago.
Still play the trombone from time to time. Alumni band gets together with Carp High band once a year and plays a halftime show.
John is doing well. He's also the main reason I learned to play guitar.
My dream is to be part of a big fat band
is that guy on the alto solo marienthal?
Yup
The one and only my friend
Of course, Arturo *not* playing in Trumpet section; he is instead sight-reading the Tenor Sax part----which is usually technically more difficult than the trumpet parts. Notice that he only drops out for the sax soli.
where is music, all this kind off jazz is just mathematic skills without any soul, show me classical american composer, just no exisisting
i never travel without my horn ha ha ha
ÑO Barbaro te comiste la trompeta Arturo felicidades
Andy Martin woohooo
Anyone noticed Arturo reading the music and playing with the saxophones!
No, Sandoval is Lost in space!!
@@rafaelrey5365 like your mom
What was the bore on the lead pipe of the first horn?!
How old do you have to be to get into that jazz club?
You can be any age to get in because The Catalina Jazz Club is a restaurant and not just a bar. A wonderful venue for Jazz with decent food as well.
+Juan Alexander Its more about whether your music skills are legendary. Every single person in that band is one of the best in the world at their instrument.
I'm assuming that you're asking whether if you can get in the place itself and not the band. Any age is appropriate. But obviously 21 if you want alcohol. I went here to see Arturo last week and I'm 18 my friend was 16. So no special age
ok thanks thats all I needed to know ive been there already now thanks :)
+Juan Alexander you're welcome 😄
That alto guy sure looks like Eric Marienthal.
That guest trumpeter looks like Arturo for some reason too
@@fortnitegod6987 Yeah :-)
@@fortnitegod6987 that piano player sure looks a lot like Gordon Goodwin
Does Gordon just write stuff thinking "well they won't be able to play that" then they just do!
10:09 "AAAAAAH"
Классика !!! (мужик с трубой ! ) остальные прицепом ....
If Arturo could have only played something actually musical. The band is amazing.
At that level of talent with that amount of income, work and fame they each make and have there’s nothing musical to prove to a nobody like you. Stay home in your moms house and stay broke. Or make a better video with better music.
10:52 Mario kart lick????
Close, but not quite
You knew marienthal was boutta throw down he took off his glasses
Puta que pariu!
Que espetáculo geral!
"On the bass - Rick Shaw" ahahhahahahahaha
10:10 ah

Welp I’m gonna hate whoever is clapping like that everytime, never do it, everyone in the band and the audience hate it, I will mess with the music
