That’s awesome Dev, I am just finishing up my AWC but three times a day where it will pull and fill back in 3786ml in 30 minutes each way and while that happens it will turn the outlet for skimmer ATK and heater off. Will try that option see how it works. Good content as always 👍👏👏🙏
Always the best videos! Question; Do you think its best to remove the waste water first then schedule the fresh salt water to dose when waste is completed or just run it simultaneously ?
you will get marginally better exchange.. but its only a few %. I added/removed at the same time so there is no affect on the ATO or other parts of the system :)
if you run both at the same time does it cause the ATO to stay stable and not turn on? I considered putting ATO on a timer while one versa drain then after the other filled but if you can do both at the same time and not mess with the ATO that would be great.
They look tempting that for sure since I already run a pair of EcoTech Marine MP40qwd's in my SCA 150.. I was going to go with the Neptune DOS but it's a bit loud vs these new Ecotech Versa's!! Have you put them on a schedule yet?
I had a question regarding your ro/di. Do you have an auto shut off valve for when filling your container with rodi? Next question. Does your rodi system have an auto flush kit? Just was curious. Setting up containers to fill, but curious how to get around the tds creep when water is not filling for a few days. Flushing the system for 5 mins would be ideal between auto filling containers. Just curious how your system works and if it auto flushes for you and if you had some kind of pressure switch to activate flush and no flush. Not sure if I worded that right.
Drama D yes it had an auto shut off. This is required for float cakes to work properly Currently I do not have an auto flush but do plan on building one in the near future
@@ReefDudes thanks for the reply. I have been watching your mixing station progress and was curious. I am planning a mixing station as well and thought about tds creep and wondered how to combat it. Figured you were the perfect guy to ask. Thanks again for the quick reply
Always was under the mindset you’re better off calibrating as close to your usage case as possible. So if your AWC is set to a specific ml/min I would re calibrate to that range :) ... 13.2l/day continuous for me!
I 100% agree and likely will.. I just didnt want to make you guys sit there for an ages with me haha... Ill prob test the calibration with a 1500ml beaker i have and if its on the money ill be happy :)
Thanks for the video. I have a question for you. Do you find that the versa pump that pulls from the second floor has a harder time pumping over time. With the tubing wearing out faster than the versa that’s pulling from the sump?
Thanks for the great video I just purchased a single versa pump and I set it for acro power in manual of course and Everytime I try to set time it doesn't dos at all. When I go to verify setting it's all checked off. I don't know what's going on. I have 5 ml a day set it shows the right color code and stuff. Thank you for any help
I was wondering after a month how are you liking the versa awc and compared to your previously ran Dos for AWC? I am running the dos now at ~2gal a day "continuously" and the pumps (in my basement) are loud kicking on every 15 minutes or so. I am running a versa for my Ato (50 mL/min) and kalk reactor (2mL/min) and have been very impressed by these pumps thus far both in terms of controllability and silent true continuous mode. I am debating on upgrading my AWC to versa and figured with you have using both would be interesting to hear your opinion.
Versa hands down because of noise level alone.. so i have tried 3 diff ways.. a week or two of push button (scene) then i did a week or two of Scheduled (8-10pm) and now i have it on continuous 24/7.. so i keep mixing it up exploring all the different methods. If you already have the DOS and its working and its in your basement so noise isnt an issue then just keep that.. but if it ever bits the dust then the versa is an excellent option!
ReefDudes Glad to hear you still like them; my Dos is in the basement but one can hear it throughout the first floor and even on the second floor; it works greats just slightly louder than I preferred. I think I might grab a 4 pack of versa now, thanks !
can i dose 1ml over 24h? I would like to dose tanic acid. But dosing 20ml weekly is overkill. Dosing every day still 2ml at once is too much. I would like to do uniformly
Hello. Thank you for the video and your continued effort to show us techniques in reefing. I would like to ask your opinions about using a Cole-Palmer with double heads-one for drawing out tank water and the other for drawing in frag salt water-for automatic water change controlled by an apex? I assume when we do water change it is a discrete amount daily instead of a slow continuous small amount. I say this because in think that the latter would be less efficient due to dilution. What do you think?
As long as the heads are calibrated to the exact same then it’s a great solution. It’s slowly less effective to drain and refill at the same time but you still get 9x% of the benefit with less impact to the system so I’m a big fan of that approach.
@@ReefDudes thank you so much! Concise answer packed with information. You just answered everything I was wondering about. The efficiency and the minimal distruption
Hey I really want to set up an AWC system and I am considering two options. 1. I have an APEX so I'm considering the DOS or 2. Considering the Ecotech Versa pumps on Mobius. I know you have experience with both. Which do you prefer and why? Both seem to be about the same price for two pumps ($300).
so in your video you're doing 4000ml or 4l water change. if we bump the numbers to say 20g or 30g water change would it just be adjusting the number and ensuring that there's enough mixed water n the mixed container? or even better yet, set it for the size of the mixed container?
@@ReefDudes thx for this video. I'm working on my 2022 dream build. Any cons or things I should watch out for when designing my auto wc with the versa?
@@RWAquariumPages I would get some spare tubing for where the rollers go to swap it every 4-6 months as maintenance for an AWC or carx, but otherwise your good to go!
Hi Devon, I have been told that the tubing inside the VERSA (the rubber tubing that the pumping happens with) needs to be replaced about every four months as it wears out very quickly. Can you tell me what your experience with this is?
Sounds about right if being used for calcium reactor (aka 24/7). That’s roughly the same schedule I did with my old Kamoer as well. Every 4-5 months For the dosing ones they will be fine much much longer
It really depends how much you do but for instance my CARx one does 53l/day my AWC does 10l/day. So the calcium reactor is putting 5x the wear on the tube vs the awc
I’m using the Versa to dose Alk and Ca, does your Mobius app show when the Versa is actually running? I’m my manual mode I have to look at the Versa themselves or the tube to verify it’s dosing, Mobius shows nothing.
How many ml in that timeframe? Also and I’ll try and explain this the best I can. I have to go up 10 feet and then over 15 feet. Do you think that would be an issue for it? I have the dos running right now. But I want to get a versa for my CARX reactor and then the awc.
What's going on with these pumps. I have been trying to buy these for months but they always show out of stock everywhere online. At first I thought there was just too much demand, but I recently read the reviews on BRS and there were quite a few very negative reviews related to quality issues which leads me to believe maybe they pulled them from the shelves to make improvements to the product. I want to use these to set up my AWC system instead of the APEX DOS because I hear the DOS is very loud (and these take up less space) but I can't wait for ever and may have to just go with the DOS. Has anyone heard anything??
There was a few issues with leaks for some in the first batch. I know the upgraded the connectors to have double o rings. Also when high speed sometimes the dosing tube Rode forward. This has also been fixed with a retainer ring to prevent it. Out of stock likely less production due to pandemic as they are made in house not outsourced like most products. I wouldn’t worry about ecotech they are a solid brand and stand behind their products
@@ReefDudes what about the issue with water temperature. I know your tanks are in the house but what if someone has their water tanks in the garage and it gets hot can one still set up an AWC without hurting the corals and fish?
So with setting up water changes like this...does this really mean i dont ever have to do a water change again? Doing it with buckets everyweek and heating the water and cleaning pumps and hoses...awwhhh....its a lot!
I was rather underwhelmed with the mobius app for the dosers, no tasks menu, I would expect a drop down menu with auto water change as an option. Also you can't copy the settings from one pump to another
How is this going a year on? I'm thinking of doing an AWC but can't decide between versa, Neptune or kamoer!

A few options out there! likely even more i haven't thought about yet :P

So Sweet! Let us know if you have salinity issues. I am curious if that AWC is off by just a smidge if one will over or under compensate.
Reef Automation as long they are calibrated evenly it should stay balanced
if you run both at the same time does it cause the ATO to stay stable and not turn on? I considered putting ATO on a timer while one versa drain then after the other filled but if you can do both at the same time and not mess with the ATO that would be great.
Curious how do you like your auto water change with the versa pumps is it going as planned or did you experience any difficulties???
As long as you maintain the hoses and change them every few months (depending on volume) your golden
They look tempting that for sure since I already run a pair of EcoTech Marine MP40qwd's in my SCA 150.. I was going to go with the Neptune DOS but it's a bit loud vs these new Ecotech Versa's!! Have you put them on a schedule yet?

If it’s in your garage or somewhere the Dos is a solid option. If it’s going to sit under your tank versa as it’s much quieter. Either will do the job
