The pro's of it being able to draw water from far away, and the portability of it I think cancel out the negatives of sound. I always like to buy equipment I think could be used in a variety of ways so I can always repurpose what I have. And the quality aspect of Kamoer is always reassuring for me at least.

yeah fair call mate! Each system out there has some nice little benefits that the others don't. The size and versatility of the versa is hard to beat. Hopefully ecotech come up with some more stock soon!

I just put my Maxi Doser back in the cupboard and dragged the Litermeter back out. A really great test/comparison would be around noise (all systems do pretty much the same in theory). Kamoer vs. EcoTech vs GHL Maxi vs. Neptune DOS vs. Litermeter. With continuous AWC does it really matter how often or quickly it happens? But noise matters unless your pump is outside....
Awesome review i love your tank and videos. So i don't recall if you said this but you mentioned the manual water change feature, so in the scenario where you need to dilute an issue in a say a 250 US gallon tank and need to quickly change 200 gallons, how long would that take? I would not want to wait 2 days to try to fix the issue. Thanks!

Yeah just saw your other comment, the adaptor is stem to barb adaptor from John guest. You want the barb to be the same size as the hose that comes with the Kamoer (which I cannot recall off the top of my head) and then the stem can be almost any size as you can adapt that to whatever size John guest you want to use easily.
Thanks for the review Sam. I wouldn't mind getting one of these, but have it away from the tank, in the garage, so that it keeps the noise levels down. I presume though this would mean that I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the ATO features of it though? Final question would also be which is your weapon of choice still after the review? Still the liter meter?
I would still recommend the litermeter, but they are hard to get hold of, expensive and have their draw backs (as an old platform). The new one should be interesting though :) Depending on how far the unit is from the tank, you potentially could still use the ATO. Even if you had to utilise a relay to get the job done :)

Thanks for the great review - what configuration would you recommend with a similar setup of Remote RO/Mixing Shed and Display Tank - would you put the unit in the shed (less noisy) or tank end (sensors for sump high/low). How do you use the various sensors when there is separation - would you just rely on the accuracy to perform the simultaneous water in/out ? Cheers.
If noise is an issue, I would honestly leave the sensors out and run it from the mixing shed. That being said, you could likely extend the connections with some cat6 network cable, at worst you could run some relays to make it work - but I would be fine running the unit without the sensors (just check in on it every now and then!). You would also loose the ability to use the ATO if mounting remote, although you could connect any peristaltic pump to the 24v outlet and run it remote too...
Just ordered one of these. Going to run the john guest tubing like you did. You think would be any issues using 3/8 tube. How did you join the hard pipe to the machine.
3/8 would be fine, I ran 1/4 inch without problem :) I show the adapter pieces I used in the video, I just had them in my “John guest bits” bucket. See if you can warm up some of the included soft hose, then squeeze over some hard tubing that you can adapt to whatever size you like :)

How do you ever leave your home to go on long vacation (holiday)? We left for about 26 days and had our friend (with plenty of instruction) care for our tank. Now the only living things are the 3 clown fish and mushroom corals. Almost 20 years of an established tank decimated by low salinity (1.023 to 1.020 for about 1 week) which is normally kept at 1.025. Our 55 gallon tank is covered with diatoms and we did some 10% water changes, added phosphate media. We use RO water, got salinity back up gradually in same day we got home and 5 days later we got some cerith and turbo snails to eat the diatoms. How do you leave your home and tank? Are there professionals that come and care for your tank while you are gone?
there are professionals that can come and check for you. I would highly encourage that for a 26 day absence, I normally go away for a week at tops and in that time frame my tank can manage itself. If it is more than a week, I would have a reef keeping buddy come and check the tank every 3-4 days to ensure all is well.
I am late to the scene...but still Let me start off by thanking you for the super informative unbiased content you put out for everyone in this hobby. Just like everyone else i also follow yr channel. Thanks again and 👌🏻👌🏻. So now coming to this AWC thing, its really is one of the most sought after things these days and its proving its worth i suppose. I did watch your Litermeter AWC content and this one now. My doubt/question is if the system has a gravity ATO system like in Cade (which even u you have ) how does this AWC work? Does it mean that we have to bypass the gravity ATO system completely and use the sensor based system or is there any other way ? Reason for asking is in next couple of months i am setting up a Cade S21500 and this question is lurking on for quiet some time which will also decide if i shud opt for any of these AWC systems. thanks for watching and following the channel! OK, so with AWC and top off, it is not actually as bad as you think. It goes one of two ways: 1. You pump water in and out at the same time and ATO is not affected 2. You do it at different times and it is affected. However, even if it is affected, as long as you are not doing large changes in a staggered timing (which you wouldn't anyway) your ATO will be fine. The litermeter for instance, splits its daily amount up into 144 chunks. So if you are changing 10L of water a day, it will change 70ml at a time. If your pump to move water out goes on and removes 70ml of water and that sets off your ATO, in 5mins time, the pump to bring water in comes on and brings in 70ml of water. Potentially raising your sump level by 70ml more than you want (a TINY amount). Then the ATO wont go on again until that has evaporated. Just little initial trial and fine tuning will be needed, but that anyway is needed with any controller. The Myth/facts video further made it simpler. Hi Sam, thanks for the review. To clarify if it senses an overfill situation it actually stops the AWC pump? Not just sound an alarm and keep pumping? I believe this is the case in the X2S.
Yeah great question, I don't have a unit here to test but I do believe that it will stop the AWC pump. I will try and track down a proper answer for you though
This unit looks awesome!!! Looking at my setup I’d figure I would like it in the garage but what about the ato? Can you extend the cabling? From the quick look at the video the connection looks like a headphone jack
Just rewatching your video as I’m considering this unit or the smaller X2S. My question is…. After you converted it over to “Johnguest fittings”, did that smaller diameter line throw out the calibration or the volume of water that the X2SR can move? And if you’re going to swap out for JG fittings then would the smaller and cheaper X2R be the better option? Thanks.
The X2S isn't really a smaller version, it is the earlier model (as far as I am aware). So you might have trouble finding that one now, but even if you did - I'd always recommend the latest version which is the X2SR. No issues with John guest tubing adaptors, it is a peristaltic pump which isn't impacted (as much anyway) by tubing diameters. Of course you can and should recalibrate after changing the length and/or diameter of the tubing to be safe though.
That looks pretty great. I recently picked up an X1pro2T based on your review video, for continuous kalk dosing. Any thoughts on setting up an AWC using two X1-T’s as opposed to this unit? Scheduling each pump individually to turn on and off at the same time, obviously lose the sensing capabilities, but it’s almost 1/2 the cost. Thanks!
Yeah two X1 pro-ts would work well. More flexibility in size and the fact that they are separate. No extra sensors, but yes, a lot cheaper and the fact that they are two separate pumps

Just wondering whether you determined what the head height was when you had it connected to the RO tubing?? I saw that it was easily able to pump up your 1m rise in the backyard, but what about say 3m vertically? I’m thinking about the feasibility of running tubing from under my tank, into the roof cavity, then say a 10m run through the roof down into the laundry in my case. Obviously after all that, I’d still want a decent enough flow rate. I ask because I don’t see the head height for the x2sr published anywhere. Thanks!
that line in the backyard runs down the entire length of my house and into my fish room. Its about a 25m run and has an inclination of about 1.5m. It is enough to gravity feed RODI down to my fish room :)
I need to figure out an automatic water changing system for a freshwater aquarium. I need something to green one or two gallons a day down into a sewer and then fill from a safe tap source [well water] .

Did you ever change the hose over to 1/4 instead of the thick hose that came with the pump? I’m thinking about getting a unit to pump from my basement. However I don’t think my wife will appreciate me drilling that big of a hole in the hardwood floor.

Hey Sam I have just brought this Kamoer and setup its running great 500ml per hour every hour 800litre setup, my question is do I now need to clean the sand ? I used to do it when changing the water. Now its automated do I even need to clean the sand bed?
Killer unit! Question for you on saltwater reservoirs: how long is saltwater useable after you mix it? I was reading that magnesium and calcium will precipitate out after mixing so it doesn’t have a long shelf life.
I have used salt water mixed 2 weeks ago, I keep it in a clear container and don't see any precipitate. It is a 3 gallon container since my tank is only 12 gallon and I have used Fritz, reef crystals, and tropic marin salts and have not seen any precipitate with any of them. There may be a little film that forms but that happens for each salt and in mixes that I just mixed. After I used the salt water, I usually rinse it out and let it dry before putting in new RODI water and starting the process all over again.
I know it’s an older video, did you ever have to calibrate it at all? Did you attempt larger water changes at all? I have had this for a few months now that I bought for my 360 gallon total volume system with the intent of doing 4 gallon water changes a day in the middle of the afternoon, I am using the tubing but my length of runs are longer than what came with it so I had to buy more. I’m having an awful time calibrating the flow speeds to get it to do an even 4 gallons in and 4 gallons out simultaneously, did you struggle with getting it to do the correct amount in and out at all? Or have any tips or suggestions on properly calibrating it?
Afraid I don’t have the test unit anymore so I can’t see what the software updates have done to the calibration steps, but I have heard it’s quite complex?
@@ParkersReef it’s an absolute pain. I’ve wasted days trying to get it to calibrate correctly. And there is little to no info out there on the calibration process to help anyone get it even close to right. The explanation they give makes it seem easy, but i have yet to get it right after days of trying to calibrate it following the steps they supposedly say you have to take. Just so little is out there on it that helps show you what to do

Would be nice to have this but unfortunately kamoer units aren't available by us anymore, even the ato which you reviewed isn't available as much. Apparently to import its gone 3x the price pre covid so now it's not worth it for the shops
Used to be R1200 which was about 106 aus dollars, then the shop said it would cost him 3x as much to bring in a box of 30 of the ato so it would increase 3 fold and ye now its 300 dollar once u convert it
It's a lot less work though. Also the bankers are printing money like crazy and lining their pockets so inflation is always at an all time high nowadays.
A bit off topic Sam but my two clownfish are sticking to the upper corner just like yours. I’ve had them for two months, they’re the only fish in the tank, and I’m bummed! Do you have any hope that they will eventually venture out?
@@ParkersReef I have exactly the same thing as both of you - two clowns hanging out in the top left corner of the tank. I'm going to claim something scientific like alignment with the Magnetic North Pole or something similarly technical. No way is this a coincidence :) One of them - very occasionally will go for a mosey to the other end of the tank - just to explore - but a few mins later they work out that there's no place like home and scurry back to the other corner to find their buddy...

I just received mine and I’m having a few issues, the ends of each tube always drain a few inches of water out of the tube after it stops pumping, also how did you connect the RO/DI line to it? I would really like to do this as it seems much more appropriate, do you have links to what you used?
hey mate, yeah that will just be the soft hose depressurising. You can adapt to john guest style tubing with a stem to barb adaptor. Measure up the hose on the unit for the barb size and get the stem to suit whatever hard line you wish to convert to.

Hey Niko, Make sure you are using the Kamoer remote app, have your 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks named differently and follow the instruction in the app and you should be fine. Yell out if you have trouble :)
Hi Sam first off great review really enjoyed it . Second i know its a long shot but i have a quick question , i want to mount this unit under the house and run water lines through floor to tank in my bedroom to cut down on noise , I see the float sensors have a headphone plug that plugs into main unit do you know if i could extend these cables with headphone extension cable so i can run main pump unit under the floor and still run float sensors with extension cables . Thanks in advance for any help .
Hey Mark - thanks for watching! Yes you could, but I would be conscious of not extending too far (and if you do, you might need to add a relay to the system). That being said, I haven't tested extending those leads but I think you could likely add 10m or so to them before needing any complicated relay setup :)

Ii am waiting on John Guest fittings for RO unit and X2SR so i can run all John Guest piping right through auto water change system and also waiting for 6m headphone extension cables once hooked up will let you know how it goes .
Being that I am into 3D printing, and 3D printers use stepper Motors, one of the recent developments with 3D printers is silent stepper drivers. I wonder if these machines could be upgraded in the future to use silent stepper drivers to bring down the noise level of the machine?

Awesome review. I am tossing up between this and a Neptune DOS as an auto water change system. What are your thoughts/ opinion on the DOS system? I already have a Neptune apex so that part of it isn't a added cost. All reviews that I can find on RUclips seem very biased and mainly focus on its setup and not its performance.
DOS will get the job done nicely. If you already have an apex, the cost isn't too bad. They are probably the loudest pumps on the market though, so just keep the unit in a location where you cannot hear it :D
I have been messaging Litermeter every couple of months I can’t get a answer on the release date yet. I would be interested to know if anyone has any ideas when it could be released
@@ParkersReef pumps manufactured in the first year were but they have been redesigned and improved Im in my 4th pair and the new ones are definitely quieter, none the less I only use them at 100ml/min plenty to do 2% water change/day
@@ParkersReef does it have the ability to do a constant water change on the schedule, ect, set the schedule for all day / night and then set the amount to change, it might adjust the flowrate to suit that amount of water
Wow for under 700 bucks this kills the auto aqua which I paid over 400 bucks for, with the wifi control and added sensors which I would want for fresh salt and RO water storage means there would be now worries with running out of saltwater for water change and I could get a warning for low level of top off water etc. The auto aqua has none of that and also just uses basic 12 volt dc pumps for moving water. Definitely a nice system to look at especially for that added peace of mind.
I’m hanging to see what litermeter do with their new pump, only because I’ve used them for about 7 years so have a lot of brand loyalty. But, if I don’t like it, I’ll be going Kamoer I think
Skipping the ugly stage doesn’t mean that you will never encounter algae. That bloom on the sand has nothing to do with an ugly stage. If you wanna know what an ugly stage looks like just jump over to Tidal Gardens channel and watch their SPS show tank go through a proper ugly stage.
Saying that you said that you would skip the ugly stage was never my intention :). But I sure hoped that you would avoid most of it with the amount of pre cycled media that was used in the tank. I am in the planning stages of a zeovit system in which live rock is stated to be required for a 14 day cycle. I cant nor want to start with live rock so I was hoping to use my already mature media from my current tank abd cruise the 14 day cycle. My hopes are down in making it without seeing the nasty stuff.
I don’t understand why you don’t use an Apex. You have all these individual components when it can all be in one place. The apex DOS is the best water changer by far.
I don't understand why everyone likes to put all their critical components under the control of a system that is not what I would consider reliable? What makes you think the Apex Dos is the best water changer by far? I'm not a massive fan of them, they are incredible loud, expensive and large. But yes, they have some benefits - you can control it via your apex (although you can control this via an app) and you can set it to not turn on your ATO (like this) and have some safety over and under float switches (like this....)
@@ParkersReef I run my entire system on Apex and have for 10 years. I control and monitor everything also all info in one place. I am a building controls professional by career and their system is very reliable and easy. The steppers on the DOS is the same as the ones you just reviewed. All steppers make noise as you stated.
@@Wyz1981 that's good mate, glad you enjoy your apex. (Y) The stepper motor isn't the part that makes the noise, it is the peristaltic pump and they vary greatly from brand to brand.
I'm really sorry but this review is inaccurate. This pump set at 60 rpm will move 110ml in 30 seconds and you can barely hear it. The only reason to have it set to its default speed would be for large manual changes and even then you could set it lower than the default for sure. So it is not loud at all in my opinion. NDOS is 20 times louder and moves far far less water. As for the size and weight it is necessary. The weight actually keeps it grounded and it has zero vibration. When you refer to a product that accurately moves large volumes of water like this indeed does you want it to be heavy. I think of quality when referring to weight in this situation. I ordered 3/8 id black vinyl tubing and it holds the water even in that large of tubing. It runs from DT area to bathroom drain, also to my new saltwater in garage, so even with large tubing and different size run lengths it still changes the exact amount on both heads. This product is worth its weight in gold and should not be compared to any of the water change systems mentioned in this review. Its quality deserves a professional video. I would have edited the back shed footage because I was distracted by the tree growing in. Parker I have watched, enjoyed , and learned from most of your videos. So I would never make it personal. You seem like a great guy so my apologies if any offense is taken but even if the consumers are rushing you to get content out there it is important to not rush it. Personally I don't like loud devices so that part of the review almost made me not make the purchase. Due to the limited availability of all WC systems I went ahead when I found one finally on aqua cave. I am so glad I did and I think if you spend more time with it you will agree it is second to no other WC system on the market at this time. Honestly if there were other videos on this specific product I wouldn't even comment but because this is 1 of 3 out there I feel it would help some get a better idea of how this product works. It is early in my testing but so far this product could change the game on top of the water it changes. I currently have it set up in my home and can't hear it at all. The NDOS in my GARAGE could be heard each and every time it turned on INSIDE MY HOUSE. The X2SR is 3 feet from my DT if that and I can't hear it at all. Zero!! Even when I'm watching it I only hear a soft hum. That is the absolute truth. Go out and get you one of these bad boys, you won't regret it.

I just put my Maxi Doser back in the cupboard and dragged the Litermeter back out. A really great test/comparison would be around noise (all systems do pretty much the same in theory). Kamoer vs. EcoTech vs GHL Maxi vs. Neptune DOS vs. Litermeter. With continuous AWC does it really matter how often or quickly it happens? But noise matters unless your pump is outside....

Awesome review i love your tank and videos. So i don't recall if you said this but you mentioned the manual water change feature, so in the scenario where you need to dilute an issue in a say a 250 US gallon tank and need to quickly change 200 gallons, how long would that take? I would not want to wait 2 days to try to fix the issue. Thanks!
you might be waiting that long! It does 300ml a minute, therefore 200 gallons would take 42 hours....

Yeah just saw your other comment, the adaptor is stem to barb adaptor from John guest. You want the barb to be the same size as the hose that comes with the Kamoer (which I cannot recall off the top of my head) and then the stem can be almost any size as you can adapt that to whatever size John guest you want to use easily.
Thanks for the review Sam. I wouldn't mind getting one of these, but have it away from the tank, in the garage, so that it keeps the noise levels down. I presume though this would mean that I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the ATO features of it though? Final question would also be which is your weapon of choice still after the review? Still the liter meter?
I would still recommend the litermeter, but they are hard to get hold of, expensive and have their draw backs (as an old platform).
The new one should be interesting though :)
Depending on how far the unit is from the tank, you potentially could still use the ATO. Even if you had to utilise a relay to get the job done :)

All of that extra vibration in the smaller quarter inch tubing would make me nervous about anyting unplugging itself over time
use proper john guest fittings and tubing and you wont have any issue

Simply barb to stem adaptors. You can pick them up in a number of sizes :)
Thanks for the great review - what configuration would you recommend with a similar setup of Remote RO/Mixing Shed and Display Tank - would you put the unit in the shed (less noisy) or tank end (sensors for sump high/low). How do you use the various sensors when there is separation - would you just rely on the accuracy to perform the simultaneous water in/out ? Cheers.
If noise is an issue, I would honestly leave the sensors out and run it from the mixing shed. That being said, you could likely extend the connections with some cat6 network cable, at worst you could run some relays to make it work - but I would be fine running the unit without the sensors (just check in on it every now and then!).
You would also loose the ability to use the ATO if mounting remote, although you could connect any peristaltic pump to the 24v outlet and run it remote too...
Just ordered one of these. Going to run the john guest tubing like you did. You think would be any issues using 3/8 tube. How did you join the hard pipe to the machine.
3/8 would be fine, I ran 1/4 inch without problem :)
I show the adapter pieces I used in the video, I just had them in my “John guest bits” bucket. See if you can warm up some of the included soft hose, then squeeze over some hard tubing that you can adapt to whatever size you like :)

How do you ever leave your home to go on long vacation (holiday)? We left for about 26 days and had our friend (with plenty of instruction) care for our tank. Now the only living things are the 3 clown fish and mushroom corals. Almost 20 years of an established tank decimated by low salinity (1.023 to 1.020 for about 1 week) which is normally kept at 1.025. Our 55 gallon tank is covered with diatoms and we did some 10% water changes, added phosphate media. We use RO water, got salinity back up gradually in same day we got home and 5 days later we got some cerith and turbo snails to eat the diatoms. How do you leave your home and tank? Are there professionals that come and care for your tank while you are gone?
there are professionals that can come and check for you. I would highly encourage that for a 26 day absence, I normally go away for a week at tops and in that time frame my tank can manage itself. If it is more than a week, I would have a reef keeping buddy come and check the tank every 3-4 days to ensure all is well.

So now coming to this AWC thing, its really is one of the most sought after things these days and its proving its worth i suppose. I did watch your Litermeter AWC content and this one now. My doubt/question is if the system has a gravity ATO system like in Cade (which even u you have ) how does this AWC work? Does it mean that we have to bypass the gravity ATO system completely and use the sensor based system or is there any other way ?
Reason for asking is in next couple of months i am setting up a Cade S21500 and this question is lurking on for quiet some time which will also decide if i shud opt for any of these AWC systems.

thanks for watching and following the channel! OK, so with AWC and top off, it is not actually as bad as you think. It goes one of two ways:
1. You pump water in and out at the same time and ATO is not affected
2. You do it at different times and it is affected.
However, even if it is affected, as long as you are not doing large changes in a staggered timing (which you wouldn't anyway) your ATO will be fine. The litermeter for instance, splits its daily amount up into 144 chunks. So if you are changing 10L of water a day, it will change 70ml at a time. If your pump to move water out goes on and removes 70ml of water and that sets off your ATO, in 5mins time, the pump to bring water in comes on and brings in 70ml of water. Potentially raising your sump level by 70ml more than you want (a TINY amount). Then the ATO wont go on again until that has evaporated.

Many thanks for your prompt and valuable reply. This really will help me as far as Cade gravity overflow is concerned. Just little initial trial and fine tuning will be needed, but that anyway is needed with any controller. The Myth/facts video further made it simpler.
Lets see what i end up with as either of these 3 ,Autoaqua, Kamoer and Litermeter will have to be imported. Kamoer will be easier relatively.

Yeah great question, I don't have a unit here to test but I do believe that it will stop the AWC pump. I will try and track down a proper answer for you though

Yeah you likely could. How far I am not sure though, as dc power doesn’t travel all the best - but a few extra meters no trouble :)

My question is…. After you converted it over to “Johnguest fittings”, did that smaller diameter line throw out the calibration or the volume of water that the X2SR can move?
And if you’re going to swap out for JG fittings then would the smaller and cheaper X2R be the better option?

The X2S isn't really a smaller version, it is the earlier model (as far as I am aware). So you might have trouble finding that one now, but even if you did - I'd always recommend the latest version which is the X2SR. No issues with John guest tubing adaptors, it is a peristaltic pump which isn't impacted (as much anyway) by tubing diameters. Of course you can and should recalibrate after changing the length and/or diameter of the tubing to be safe though.
That looks pretty great. I recently picked up an X1pro2T based on your review video, for continuous kalk dosing. Any thoughts on setting up an AWC using two X1-T’s as opposed to this unit? Scheduling each pump individually to turn on and off at the same time, obviously lose the sensing capabilities, but it’s almost 1/2 the cost. Thanks!
Yeah two X1 pro-ts would work well. More flexibility in size and the fact that they are separate. No extra sensors, but yes, a lot cheaper and the fact that they are two separate pumps

Just wondering whether you determined what the head height was when you had it connected to the RO tubing?? I saw that it was easily able to pump up your 1m rise in the backyard, but what about say 3m vertically? I’m thinking about the feasibility of running tubing from under my tank, into the roof cavity, then say a 10m run through the roof down into the laundry in my case. Obviously after all that, I’d still want a decent enough flow rate. I ask because I don’t see the head height for the x2sr published anywhere. Thanks!
that line in the backyard runs down the entire length of my house and into my fish room. Its about a 25m run and has an inclination of about 1.5m. It is enough to gravity feed RODI down to my fish room :)

I need to figure out an automatic water changing system for a freshwater aquarium. I need something to green one or two gallons a day down into a sewer and then fill from a safe tap source [well water] .
typically with freshwater, you just do an overflow system and have it gravity fill

Great question. From memory (I don’t have the review unit anymore) there are separate sensors for low, ato level and high.

it's not as loud as the dos, those things sound like a jet taking off! fx-stp is quiet, but look into the much cheaper Kamoer X1 pro-t ;)

Hey Sam I have just brought this Kamoer and setup its running great 500ml per hour every hour 800litre setup, my question is do I now need to clean the sand ? I used to do it when changing the water. Now its automated do I even need to clean the sand bed?

Killer unit! Question for you on saltwater reservoirs: how long is saltwater useable after you mix it? I was reading that magnesium and calcium will precipitate out after mixing so it doesn’t have a long shelf life.
I use NSW 95% of the time :)
Artificial Salt water I mix in batches of 200l at a time
I have used salt water mixed 2 weeks ago, I keep it in a clear container and don't see any precipitate. It is a 3 gallon container since my tank is only 12 gallon and I have used Fritz, reef crystals, and tropic marin salts and have not seen any precipitate with any of them. There may be a little film that forms but that happens for each salt and in mixes that I just mixed. After I used the salt water, I usually rinse it out and let it dry before putting in new RODI water and starting the process all over again.
I know it’s an older video, did you ever have to calibrate it at all? Did you attempt larger water changes at all? I have had this for a few months now that I bought for my 360 gallon total volume system with the intent of doing 4 gallon water changes a day in the middle of the afternoon, I am using the tubing but my length of runs are longer than what came with it so I had to buy more. I’m having an awful time calibrating the flow speeds to get it to do an even 4 gallons in and 4 gallons out simultaneously, did you struggle with getting it to do the correct amount in and out at all? Or have any tips or suggestions on properly calibrating it?
Afraid I don’t have the test unit anymore so I can’t see what the software updates have done to the calibration steps, but I have heard it’s quite complex?
@@ParkersReef it’s an absolute pain. I’ve wasted days trying to get it to calibrate correctly. And there is little to no info out there on the calibration process to help anyone get it even close to right. The explanation they give makes it seem easy, but i have yet to get it right after days of trying to calibrate it following the steps they supposedly say you have to take. Just so little is out there on it that helps show you what to do

Used to be R1200 which was about 106 aus dollars, then the shop said it would cost him 3x as much to bring in a box of 30 of the ato so it would increase 3 fold and ye now its 300 dollar once u convert it

It sure can. Comes with a 24v impeller pump for ATO duties, so if you want it to do ATO you would need the unit to be near the tank :)

You can set it to do at the same time or empty first then fill (in which case it will not switch on the ato)

They’ll likely stick to one spot as clowns don’t tend to swim far once settled.

One of them - very occasionally will go for a mosey to the other end of the tank - just to explore - but a few mins later they work out that there's no place like home and scurry back to the other corner to find their buddy...
Mine will swim the whole tank at feeding time, but otherwise their home is the top left corner :)

I just received mine and I’m having a few issues, the ends of each tube always drain a few inches of water out of the tube after it stops pumping, also how did you connect the RO/DI line to it? I would really like to do this as it seems much more appropriate, do you have links to what you used?
hey mate, yeah that will just be the soft hose depressurising. You can adapt to john guest style tubing with a stem to barb adaptor. Measure up the hose on the unit for the barb size and get the stem to suit whatever hard line you wish to convert to.

Hey Niko, Make sure you are using the Kamoer remote app, have your 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks named differently and follow the instruction in the app and you should be fine. Yell out if you have trouble :)

Second i know its a long shot but i have a quick question , i want to mount this unit under the house and run water lines through floor to tank in my bedroom to cut down on noise , I see the float sensors have a headphone plug that plugs into main unit do you know if i could extend these cables with headphone extension cable so i can run main pump unit under the floor and still run float sensors with extension cables . Hey Mark - thanks for watching! Yes you could, but I would be conscious of not extending too far (and if you do, you might need to add a relay to the system). That being said, I haven't tested extending those leads but I think you could likely add 10m or so to them before needing any complicated relay setup :)

Being that I am into 3D printing, and 3D printers use stepper Motors, one of the recent developments with 3D printers is silent stepper drivers. I wonder if these machines could be upgraded in the future to use silent stepper drivers to bring down the noise level of the machine?

Awesome review. I am tossing up between this and a Neptune DOS as an auto water change system. What are your thoughts/ opinion on the DOS system? I already have a Neptune apex so that part of it isn't a added cost. All reviews that I can find on RUclips seem very biased and mainly focus on its setup and not its performance.
DOS will get the job done nicely. If you already have an apex, the cost isn't too bad. They are probably the loudest pumps on the market though, so just keep the unit in a location where you cannot hear it :D
So if you had to set up AWC to only service the dream reef tank, would you stick with your litremeters or get the kamoa?

@@ParkersReef pumps manufactured in the first year were but they have been redesigned and improved Im in my 4th pair and the new ones are definitely quieter, none the less I only use them at 100ml/min plenty to do 2% water change/day

As far as I can see you cannot adjust the speed.
@@ParkersReef does it have the ability to do a constant water change on the schedule, ect, set the schedule for all day / night and then set the amount to change, it might adjust the flowrate to suit that amount of water
No it works like your normal doser whereby you set the amount you want to change a day and how many times a day you want to split that by.

Wow for under 700 bucks this kills the auto aqua which I paid over 400 bucks for, with the wifi control and added sensors which I would want for fresh salt and RO water storage means there would be now worries with running out of saltwater for water change and I could get a warning for low level of top off water etc. The auto aqua has none of that and also just uses basic 12 volt dc pumps for moving water. Definitely a nice system to look at especially for that added peace of mind.
Yeah it certainly oozes quality. Noise is a side effect of big peristaltic pumps which I am happy to deal with for the performance they give :)

I certainly wouldn't call it a "major bloom", but yes, that is my ugly stage. Never expected to "skip" it though
Skipping the ugly stage doesn’t mean that you will never encounter algae. That bloom on the sand has nothing to do with an ugly stage. If you wanna know what an ugly stage looks like just jump over to Tidal Gardens channel and watch their SPS show tank go through a proper ugly stage.

Saying that you said that you would skip the ugly stage was never my intention :). But I sure hoped that you would avoid most of it with the amount of pre cycled media that was used in the tank. I am in the planning stages of a zeovit system in which live rock is stated to be required for a 14 day cycle. I cant nor want to start with live rock so I was hoping to use my already mature media from my current tank abd cruise the 14 day cycle. My hopes are down in making it without seeing the nasty stuff.

I don’t understand why you don’t use an Apex. You have all these individual components when it can all be in one place. The apex DOS is the best water changer by far.
I don't understand why everyone likes to put all their critical components under the control of a system that is not what I would consider reliable? What makes you think the Apex Dos is the best water changer by far? I'm not a massive fan of them, they are incredible loud, expensive and large.
But yes, they have some benefits - you can control it via your apex (although you can control this via an app) and you can set it to not turn on your ATO (like this) and have some safety over and under float switches (like this....)
@@ParkersReef I run my entire system on Apex and have for 10 years. I control and monitor everything also all info in one place. I am a building controls professional by career and their system is very reliable and easy. The steppers on the DOS is the same as the ones you just reviewed. All steppers make noise as you stated.

The stepper motor isn't the part that makes the noise, it is the peristaltic pump and they vary greatly from brand to brand.
I'm really sorry but this review is inaccurate. This pump set at 60 rpm will move 110ml in 30 seconds and you can barely hear it. The only reason to have it set to its default speed would be for large manual changes and even then you could set it lower than the default for sure. So it is not loud at all in my opinion. NDOS is 20 times louder and moves far far less water. As for the size and weight it is necessary. The weight actually keeps it grounded and it has zero vibration. When you refer to a product that accurately moves large volumes of water like this indeed does you want it to be heavy. I think of quality when referring to weight in this situation. I ordered 3/8 id black vinyl tubing and it holds the water even in that large of tubing. It runs from DT area to bathroom drain, also to my new saltwater in garage, so even with large tubing and different size run lengths it still changes the exact amount on both heads. This product is worth its weight in gold and should not be compared to any of the water change systems mentioned in this review. Its quality deserves a professional video. I would have edited the back shed footage because I was distracted by the tree growing in. Parker I have watched, enjoyed , and learned from most of your videos. So I would never make it personal. You seem like a great guy so my apologies if any offense is taken but even if the consumers are rushing you to get content out there it is important to not rush it. Personally I don't like loud devices so that part of the review almost made me not make the purchase. Due to the limited availability of all WC systems I went ahead when I found one finally on aqua cave. I am so glad I did and I think if you spend more time with it you will agree it is second to no other WC system on the market at this time. Honestly if there were other videos on this specific product I wouldn't even comment but because this is 1 of 3 out there I feel it would help some get a better idea of how this product works. It is early in my testing but so far this product could change the game on top of the water it changes. I currently have it set up in my home and can't hear it at all. The NDOS in my GARAGE could be heard each and every time it turned on INSIDE MY HOUSE. The X2SR is 3 feet from my DT if that and I can't hear it at all. Zero!! Even when I'm watching it I only hear a soft hum. That is the absolute truth. Go out and get you one of these bad boys, you won't regret it.

At the time of filming, I don’t believe there was an option to change the pump speed - which has been a huge step forward.
