I am a 70 year old grandma trying to do my cooking videos which my young Grandaughter or neighbor helps me flim on their phones and edit when they have time. Can you put the number etc in blocked words.. I've avoided the actual words in case you have...
I reported them when I saw the spam but does YT actually do anything?
It's good to know RUclips's efforts went into removing public dislikes instead of handling this. Channel verification is pointless when countless people and bots can create accounts using the same name and profile photo as a verified account, then spam the entire platform.

I don't know much about this.. I can't remember exactly what I had to do when setting the YT channel up..
If I remember correctly in the verification process we have to give a Gmail and when I set up the Gmail I had to give my phone number.. and I assume somewhere along the line that must disclose the IP address of the phone and maybe the computer.. surely the system can use that to block multiple accounts?
I realise there could be ways round but it's a start...
Also when we go on a website there are cookies that tell the website we have visited before.. "for the user experience" .. that must or could in effect give the IP address .. I realise there are VPNs.. but within all that there must be a way...
.. and if the same thing is posted multiple times that could be detected..
Something else I have noticed.. when I make a comment and you.. for instance.. read it you can like it and also give it a heart.. I haven't looked for ages but it was after I had got a lot of hearts.. when I did notice.. it was about 20 .. I was wondering.. does the heart thing only go to 99 and then go back to 0?
Surely this is another way of working out nice people..
On the flip side if someone does a bad comment.. and it gets a thumbs down that could trigger something.. btw if someone gives a thumbs down does the other person see who did it..
When I saw the spam and again on Nick's I DM ed him both times...
Is there a way of scanning the photo like a copyright thing?
We have never met but from my interaction with you or Nick you have worked out I'm not a bad person..
Could this be also used to add to verify the person?
Should there be a delay between setting up a channel and commenting.. sort of like watch hours.. or even needing to watch the video to actually comment... there is the subscribe to comment function on livestreams...
Can the phone number in the comments be put in blocked? Could YT have it's own blocked words on the whole system which would help everyone?
And... To report with details directly to YT for those people who have over 100k ..
When is the unboxing video Dee? Maybe filmed in a set like raiders of the lost ark with cobwebs and analogies to the YT journey... Or Nick's studio with a load of string and Popcorn playing the part of the scary monster...
I'm about to delete my channel and reset it .. immediately I will have access to everything..

I’m always stunned at the creative ways they come up with the spell WhatsApp. I’ve got a dozen different variations in my blocked words section and they still keep coming up with more.
Thanks Nick for this. Had a problem 6 months ago with an impersonator, he was commenting on other people's videos and live streams pretending to be me. The other thing to add, is to switch off the setting that shows who you are subscribed to. That what he used to make his spam comments

Seeing how we can report the Fake account posing as someone else is extremely helpful as well. I remember seeing this spammer on both yours and Dee's channel not long ago.
As a big crypto fan, I absolutely hate the spamming that's going on. It hurts the people being scammed and the industry as it tries to be legitimate in the eyes of the public. I always report posts when I see them.

Thank You Nick for the information I have known a few channels it's happen to.
I get the spam all the time and I clean it up every time it happens, it's annoying but it's going to happen no matter how many times we clean it up so might as well get use to fixing it as we go along and carry on with our days. I get many for dumb IG scams. I also take their comment , copy and paste it into my blocked words section. This way when they come back, it gets held in my review section so it's not posted , little bonus tip for you ;)

Only spam I'm gettin' since the late 2020s are comments with links but other than disabling links in comments, no issues. But good to know incase somethin' similar happens to me. 👍

Thankfully, I haven't had this issue- YET. But I'm sure it's coming! Luckily, it's pretty obvious they're a scammer if they're posting that, but some are more slick than others. Thanks for this video!

Very helpful! I'm kind of new to the RUclips game, and I see some weird comments every now and then. So if I'm not mistaken, if I only want to delete a comment without "blocking" then the option is remove, but other than that "hide from channel" to permanently remove the person?

This is great info, wasn’t aware I could report someone for impersonating someone else directly on the spammer’s channel. Does that make more of a difference than just reporting the comment? Would the account be removed more quickly?
It still needs to be human reviewed, but every report helps.

If you get a strike, RUclips typically remove the video anyway - so you won't get that choice - however the strike does expire after 90 days.

Hey nick, I have question, does commenting on youtube videos help your channel in terms of traffic
For Example: I reply to a bunch of comments on a RUclips video and from the comment I get more traffic because more people click on my videos and and choose to subscribe. Do you reccomend that I do this on other bigger RUclipsr videos to grow my channel
In theory, sure you might gain a few extra views but the effort to get those views is massive and wasted. The better approach is to spend that time fine tuning your skills so you can get a better response without needing to do that.

Great tips Nick. I hardly get enough comments these days to be a worthwhile target of spammers but maybe someday.
Sometimes verified channels spam something like ' If you're reading this then I hope you have a great day" are usually spam bots themself and even denying that spam bots exist. They got their checkmark by buying a channel that is already verified/spamming shorts/reuploading someone else video without giving credit.
Some legit creators use that type of comment to be seen as "leaving a positive comment" hoping to get people to pop over to their channel and check it out.
Everyone who posts on comments frequently may cause the RUclips channel to be closed for himself, as they are spam comments

I've noticed this whenever I would ask questions on channel regarding Blender. So the problem isn't my account but the RUclips channel? So there's nothing I can do.
I HAVE A QUESTION my cpm/rpm is really low, im still growing right now but ive been averaging abt 10k views for the past week now i believe but my cpm/rpm is $0.20 is ( its been slowly growing ) i started way lower, so to get more cpm/rpm do i have to keep releasing videos and it will keep growing over time?? ( also that cpm/rpm is from my channels analytics ) please help
I keep seeing these comments or other spam comments on other people's channels and it's annoying myself as a viewer. So when I see such comments I report them. I hope RUclips will get it eventually under control 🤞🏻😊

Ive run into a problem similar to this however I cannot see the spammer from my point of view. Someone has replied to every one of my comments on a giveaway video with fake information. Ive seen screenshots from friends. But when I click on the dropdown there is no comment. But when I go onto another channel that isnt mine and click the dropdown I see the comment. Any advice?
Here is something to try - when looking on another channel, identify a unique search term on the comments. Go to your channel, into Studio dashboard and Comments. Clear the default "I haven't responded" filter then click on the upside down triangle and pick the search option. type or paste in the search term. See if that shows you the comments in question.

Ugh, those bitcoin scammers. Haven't seen one of YT yet but I see them everywhere on fb. Ugh. So this video is REALLY helpful to me as I just know I'll meet one on YT some day.

I think RUclips has been locking down some username variations but it's become an arms race with similar-enough letter variations (like with lines or dots over them etc)

I've seen this before on JackSepticEye's channel, I didn't fall for it, many years ago I nearly got scammed after that I did a tun of research o scamming so I know what to look for so it can't happen again that's the main reason I why I didn't fall for it, some of the stuff these scammers do are shocking and disgraceful

Yes I had this happen to me at least once on another channel not long ago where someone was pretending to be them and wanted me to text them because I won a giveaway. NO WAY! lol. I not that stupid!

An open source project this Joe called YTSpam Purge, that one is game changing, if you get worried about giving permissions to the channel, you can create another account, make it mod and within 3-5 seconds you can delete spam comments from entire channels, I been using it from months and it's game changing, Linus made video about it, look into yt spam purge by this Joe, it's free open source.

I've noticed that one minute after I make a post the same spammers leave the same message. Exactly one minute. How is this. Is it a person doing this or a machine programed to track my every comment.
It's a bot. Targeting new videos to maximise eyeballs on whatever they are trying to push.
