Man, I had a GSR and 2 swapped civics back in the day, and can identify the sound of a B series revving out from a mile away. Have to say that this build has really taken me back to when I lived and breathed these cars. And yours is definitely one of the best built and SOUNDING B's I've seen.
This build brings me back. My first Honda was an EF hatch. I absolutely hammered that little 1.5l for all it had, until it blew up. Swapped in a good old B18B and the car was the fastest thing ever to 17 yr old me 😂. Great build guys loving this content! 🤟
A really useful tip for removing the glue residue from tint is use some windex or glass cleaner WITH AMONIA and a piece of soft steel wool and it will literally just melt off the glass it’s so fast and easy and works like a charm
I was never interested in these cars in my youth, but now that I've matured and wised-up, I've come to love them, and this EF really speaks to me. Classic 80s goodness all-around. Keep up the great work, guys!
I had an eg hatch 15 years ago. B18c5 swap. That car was a hoot! 13 sec 1/4 times on street tires. I still have a clip of me ripping it on my youtube page. That thing was so much fun
Humble tips: 80% tint the windshield, 30% tint the rest of the glass. Space the steering wheel on the hub. Consider a dished steering wheel. Could gain 4" of offset towards the driver.
Radius rod bushings are in backwards. The narrower end goes towards the washer, fatter end towards the subframe. Excellent upgrade though, lots of people forget to do them or just go to a traction bar.
I love when he was like "I am not sure about bouncing it off the rev limiter". 4 seconds later he bangs it off the limiter 2x haha. I would do that also!
I have this exact swap in my ED7. After 3 or 4 years together and apart again i think this year it’ll actually see the road. These videos have really kicked the motivation back into me. 🤝🏻
Interesting choice to go with an Ebay Crank Damper after being unsure of the reliability of an Undamped Crank Pulley. Especially after spending so much money on the engine and it being a Very high revving engine. But, not my car... Also should pick up a ASR Steering Wheel Adapter/ Extender to Adjust your Wheel Position.
@@speedacademy I don't know, a lot of duplicates and replicators out there. 😬 Edit: After looking it up, all Reputable Sources for OEM Honda Branded Crank Pulley (including other Part Numbers that fit) show it's been fully discontinued. I understand that's kind of the only choice. But still after putting in, I'm assuming, more than 8-10k (USD) in the whole project. I would still have looked for an ATI or Fluidampr. It just seems out of touch to not care about something like that.
US Bumper with the lip looks great. I used to have a type R swapped G with a low tacho and it was always fun watching passengers reaction when the tacho went off the edge
hey guys did mounting the sway bar with that spacer work or is the angle wrong for the link connecting to the arm? would love to know before i get some billet spacers made for mine as i have this issue!
I got my origin h Ef9 bumper and the replacement indicator lights a few months ago, once I move to my new place in about a week I'll have the space and time to mount it properly. Looks good, I also purchased Ef9 headlights and a filler bar, just need a hood.
I love your content and really appreciate the work you two put in. I have a white EF hatch so this series makes me so happy to watch. Please keep it up guys!
I believe the tension rods in the front have to do with caster control more than anything. Of course you can make the caster goofy by mounting left and right upper control arms backward by accident, but thats another problem. But def they have little to do with toe and surely nothing with camber.
The original honda designs of the EF and the japanese model have the lip, mirrors and door handles color matched, so much cleaner. The only reason they are black was to save money. Only the belt molding was ever intended to be black on base cars and color matched on top jdm models as well Si, SiR, 25x, 25XT
24:31 Good to see some companies reproducing some JDM front end parts, including the extremely rare turn signals. Hopefully you're working on CRX front end parts too! -from an EF7 owner
I've been watching you guys a while back, but I do miss your S2k track series when you built cars to go on track. Doing modifications and see how they translate on track.
You guys really bring me back to the '80s -'90s life! With this EF build and the Saturday morning cartoon excitement! Keep up the good work guys! Lovin it! 🤝
Wish my tint would have come off that easily. When I pulled it off my 86 CRX it was so baked and old it just came off in small chunks! Took so long but so satisfying when it was done!
@@ethansotelo755 oh absolutely! I used to dump it immediately but now that I’m older….no thanks. I like showing up places without being soaked in my own sweat lol
You guys picked good parts. Big fan of Hardrace in general, all my suspension bushings are Hardrace. After sampling the spherical joints they offer I should have gone with those, but still, their bushings are every bit as good if not better than OEM/Spoon/Mugen.
So much more joy and smiles with a 6 second 0-60 pull in a Honda tin can than in a boring-ass EV. Don’t get me wrong, EVs are great too, but it’s just not the same thing. Nope.
you might consider taking a melanin pad to the browning area on the strut towers in the engine bay. if that doesnt help, maybe paint that area. otherwise this car is sooo clean and really making me want to build a civic or crx hatch
I think for US/CA where our vehicles are overall much bigger than Japan, the larger bumpers provide a bit more safety in low-mid speed collisions. The true JDM front end is pretty much show car-only now…seeing as how they cost about $4k to get a decent complete setup.
Great job, fellas! I had an ek with a B16 and another ek with an LSVTEC swap back in the day and this surely brings back memory. I need to build another Honda!! The only Honda I have left is my S2000 and CBR1000RR. Keep up the great content! Love you guys. ❤
09:36 did it start raining? Can't think of anything better than working on cars with rain hitting the roof. Thanks for a perfect Sunday morning. Cheers from Aus!
Best build series yet, though I still loved the BMW wagon fabrication pron. I know race track episodes don’t YT algorithm well, but I can’t wait to see these cars let loose the way god intended! :)
The grounding to the stud… I have my grounded to the same place as yours and I too have not noticed any power loss. Not sure why I grounded it there as well, I’m sure I had my reasons 12 years ago but like you guys, the internet had mention that my ground wire was in the wrong spot as well. 😂
I just wish the TC2 had the same love as the Civic. My car is underrated and I can confirm I’ve gapped my fair share of Hondas. I’ve even stayed ahead of early 2000s stock WRXs
Love your video man ! I also have an EF that my brother gave me and it is in very bad condition. Hopefully I can rebuild the EF considering many parts are hard to find and very expensive for me.
I believe the b16b was balanced from factory with the n1 pulley not sure if it will make a difference in your application, although I have heard using the n1 pulley on any other b series is typically a bad idea because they are not balanced for it
Since the tac doesn’t read high enough, maybe it would be worthwhile to install a shift light. I am normally not a fan because they seem unnecessary, but this would be an exception.
You guys should cash in some of your considerable influence with Continental and push them to make some 215/50r15 tires for those of us running 15x7 wheels
The vtec front bumper ( over in europe they came on the EE9 chassis which had the 1.6 B16A ) looks a bit off with a none vtec front. As for the rest, I'd say it's perfect😘👌
Saturday is not Saturday without an episode from Speed Academy. 🔰
💯
Exactly
And gears and gasoline. They go hand and hand.

I love B series sound. I love the K series - they are awesome engines - but don’t sound that great to me.
Now can you remember how much hate is b series owners for back in the early 2000s?
Moooooossssseeeee
The honda B series,Oh my God that beautiful beautiful sound vteeeccchhhh, music to my ear. What a nice build DP & Pete good job guys ❤❤❤

And this is how "happy ever after" story should be
B16B is Gods motor for that Vtec sound and crossover. IMO best sounding b series out there
This is Saturday morning cartoons for adults. Always a great way to start the morning.
Absolutely love this channel. My favourite car guys on youtube. Perfection and maturity modifying cars. Love it. Well done guys
A really useful tip for removing the glue residue from tint is use some windex or glass cleaner WITH AMONIA and a piece of soft steel wool and it will literally just melt off the glass it’s so fast and easy and works like a charm
Those scour pads for doing non stick dishes are a safer bet on glass
Use a steam cleaner with w microfiber between the gun and glass
When I was removing the tint off my CRX I used a steam cleaner.
Simple green and a scuff pad or steel wool, just don't let the simple green dry on the panels or it will leave streaks
To me the EF hatch will always be the ultimate Civic. Double-wishbone + fishbowl visibility = win.
What this car needs is a set of Recaros reupholstered with period SI fabric, which I have many many yards of
YES
Where would one aquire that fabric?
I am said one girl, who is watching and has an 89 EF hatch lol! Thanks for the tips and help finding parts for my build!
The B16B is absolutely the most hilarious motor I’ve ever driven. Good memories here.
That engine sounds glorious! Wowzer.

Lovin the EF content. Thanks for choosing our JDM EF9 bumper conversion. Looks so clean with your wheel combo.
Honda the power of dreams, you guys lived it! ❤
Not a Honda guy but this build is so nice it makes me want one. Great job guys.
you need 88-89 bumper mounting brackets to fix that gap in the ef9 bumper
Thank you for doing justice to these wonderful vehicles and drivetrains!
What a perfect EF! I actually really dig the USDM front bumper. Excited to see them both on track!
I love when he was like "I am not sure about bouncing it off the rev limiter". 4 seconds later he bangs it off the limiter 2x haha. I would do that also!

Before Trackday: this nice EF Civic would quickly deserve a pair of decent seats 😉
The ef isnt gunna plow without a rear sway bar. Its one of the best cars for FWD oversteer. Plus the rear bar you put on is a tiny SI civic bar.
Love this hatch !! 😮 is a beuty … well done guys !
As always quy's, awsome work. Dream build wright there
Usually EDM EE8/9 Speedometer should fit Rpm is until 9K and in KM/H and way more clean

My only issue with the Hard race stuff is the gaudy blue. It'd rather have all silver or black.

At first I thought Pete might be exaggerating but it does sounds god damn good
Awesome build.
Only dislikes are the front corner lights and turn signals. I much prefer amber. More color in.the front of cars is better to me.
I love your content and really appreciate the work you two put in. I have a white EF hatch so this series makes me so happy to watch. Please keep it up guys!
You can’t ever have too much wing! Don’t be afraid of the big wing!
The overall stance and wheel tyre combo is exceptional.
I am restoring a 1990 CRX, and mine also had the purple tint with the annoying glue residue. Does it come that way from factory?

That wing looks sick but 100% agree without a lip kit or other aero its aggressive
That back location you used for the ITR ground is sometimes used for a power steering line bracket

that civic vtec sticker on the back is monumentaly crocked :DD
Thanks for fixing that ground wire. Awesome episode!!
Made me miss my ej1! Hardrace every front and rear suspension components! Track abused and never an issue with it
Well done boi’s!!! It’s all coming together
You guys need to do a Kraftwerk supercharged B series nobody ever does that. I wonder if that is a "K" killer 🤔
While that would be sick, it sits in the location of the AC compressor so it would be a case of sacrificing AC to make it work.
@@Streeter_NSXI’m starting to appreciate having AC in my Hondas more now. Before that was the first thing to go! 😂
