Power and torque is very nice, but the sound of an N/A B series cam change-over & screaming over 8,000 is just beautiful, and lightness is king on a twisty road. Chef's kiss !
We are all "winners" for this one. Especially us 40-something-year-olds (I'm 47) that had these cars back in the day. I had a black 91' Civic Si hatchback, a black 90' integra hatchback, a maroon 87' Civic Si hatchback, and a 81" accord hatchback was my first car. All these cars were stick shift of course.
I had K series 93 Civic Si , 92 Civic Si with an amazing B16B .Should have kept both of them .( I am 60 ) . I just bought a V8 Miata and it is nuts . Not selling this one .
i'm 37 i had a milano red '99 Civic SI EM1 in about '06 but unfortunately it wasn't long lived. I got rear ended right after i put a few mods on n it was totaled out with 27k on the ODM. I wish i could get my hands on a nice "affordable" EG
For me, the EF is the winner. It’s the better looking, and definately better sounding car. But let’s be honest, both cars are great, this build was such a treat! Thanks, Speed Academy🙏🏻
Older enthiast here (55). Loved watching these two builds. I swapped a B16A (SiR) into my EF 15 yrs ago and still have it. That engine is magical. I owned an EG before that, and still miss that car. This video is spot-on about the nuances between the two, re ergonomics, cornering feel, etc. I love them both. Great work!
both of these builds are so proper. thank you so much PT and DP for brining us this series. the attention to detail in all phases was very apparent. I hope the YT algorithm gives you the rewards you deserve.
I'm just sorting the rust out on mine at the moment. The cowl panels are spot welded together in bare steel, sealed, then painted/dipped. The sealant holds moisture and eventually gets to the bare steel inbetween the spot welds. I've checked 7 civics so far and they've all had rust in the same spot, whether it be EJ1 EG4 EG6 EG8 EG9.. Just a heads up if you do want to get another.
LOVE this track battle film! You guys have built 2 legendary 80s/90s era Hondas and proven them straight-up on track. Altho these types of films don't get as many views thank you for sticking to your built for street and track principles! Great driving guys
I know you guys say the track videos don’t get the views, but at the end of the week when there’s a Speed Academy track video that’s new, it jumps to the top of the heap. I bought my second set of new Continental Tires in part because of your channel FYI.
Had an EG with B18 type-r engine & torsen, what a sweet memory of 9400rpm red line... But my EFs with D16A9 DOHC were cool too even with less power, the fun was still there.
B16 w/ S1 trans in my EF was REALLY fun! Gearing of S1 was comically short but a blast just to drive around town. Plus JDM ECU was still speed limited to 112mph and that was just enough at my local road course long straight. Car is no longer swapped and now just enjoying that 40mpg life with the nimble lightweight driving feel.
B16B in both cars and run it back! I think with a little more time put into the EF's suspension, it would've killed the EG. This series was such a treat to watch, great job boys!
Being an older honda head the EF has my heart as I absolutely love these machines and the platform itself. In the same token the Eg is a beast itself in the performance department between both builds. Best thing about both of theses chassis is they have timeless good looks and never look as old as they are!
Awesome video guys, thank you!! I love how you implimented the "touge' chase/follow format and also swap cars and drivers at the end - which allowed the other driver to share their input and feedback. Love that guys! This is why you guys are legit "Speed Academy" (throwing back to the "a$$2000" to "bada$$2000" content days). Thanks again guys - love ya'll!
LLLEEETTTTTSSS GOOOOOO!!!!!!!! So stoked for this showdown! Loved this build series, all of this is very relatable for most enthusiasts from budget to goals and obviously car choices
EF for me, since I owned a white 91 Si as my first car back in 2001. Was so excited to drive it, I went to the garage where it was waiting to get safetied, at night and “borrowed” it so I could practice driving manual. Put two different plates on it because one of my moms plates wouldn’t come off so I “borrowed” my neighbours 😅 Drove to the beach at like 3am, got pulled over and a $6000 fine for no insurance/plates etc 😂😂😂 Good times, good times.
For me, the screaming high RPM VTEC motors are just more fun to whip around. The old Top Gear hosts said it best - something along the lines of "you can push a slow car to it's limit on public roads, but you can't really enjoy a fast car outside a race track".
Guys! Another KILLER series! Loved both builds, especially the old-school nature of the EF... But, I gotta say, the torque of the EG was just too good! I wish I could buy one of these beauties, but I'm confident whoever does buy them will be getting some truly awesome machines!
As fun as the type r b series are. The long gearing and almost perfect hp are hard to pass on. My fav setup is a f23 or f20 with the ls trans. Easy to pull alot of rotating mass and make over 220whp. Stock turbo d series vtec is always amazing. The type r just feels slow these days. Great for learning power management in road racing the motor is stout.
I have been watching your channel since I was in college in the States, then back to my home country, and now in TO. Where I realized that you in Canada blew my mind! You have great taste in wheels, tail lights/headlights/bumper replacements. Continental tires are awesome too I have on my car. Hard to choose between the two. I guess I would go with the EF the way you built it. Have an awesome day.
Rad build fellas!!! I loved this series as the EF build reminds me a lot of my old 1.6 200SX shitbox project. 250WHP and 220WTQ 2125 lbs; there is just something right about that power to weight..... Keep up the awesome work!
I love them both equally from a body style perspective but I think the EG with the B16 would be my ideal golden era Honda. This has been a great series!
Track day hype!!!! For me, the EG with a turbo vtec motor. Although it would be a lot more violent once boost and TEC comes on, it's so much fun. Drove a b18c5 turbo motor a few times and it was an awesome experience.
Eg for me! I love the logic of the motor choice with a turbo setup. Don’t have to feel guilty about blowing it up and swapping another one in. Just a more simple route compared to a k swap as well.
It's insane to me how much nostalgia effects my brain - that EG Civic is the bee's knees and I'd take it over any car from the last 10 years, just based on fun per dollar
Back again for another Saturday morning episode of SA!!! If Dave put a turbo on that VTEC monster, he would give Pete a run for his money! Either or... these 2 retro Hondas were GREAT builds! Well done guys! 🤝
I have a CRx back home in Canada. I love the early look better. The looks is more Honda quality refinement and less bulbous than the EG. But I’m living in France now and I bought a EG, 1.3 carbie car with 150k kms and I’m in agreeance that the ergo is better. I’m lovin it. Just waiting for the swap to happen to start doing track days! Great content for guys our age, Nostalgia!!
Great build and really enjoyed. I love the EF and B series Vtec sound but that EG is really nice. I still have my 88 EF with JRSC D16 and 87 CRX with GSR from 93 integra and will die owning them as they are both so much fun to drive. There are of lot faster cars now but i enjoy these cars so much. i have driven Evo, Z06 Corvettes and Porsches but i love the analog feel of both cars even in my 50's.
I had the opportunity to own both Si but the EF does win my heart. Nonetheless, both were executed very clean and nice. Great series Speed Academy. Always look forward to my Saturdays
These builds were awesome! I own a 90 ED6 with a B18A1 and i have a B20V (B20 block GSR head with type-r cams) that will be going in soon. Y'all got me re thinking my goals. That turbo life looks too good! Also, my shoes have Continental soles as well, Adidas Terrex.
I wonder how it would drive with today's sticky tires. I had so much fun back in 90's with EG and EF civic. Lightness with double wish born type suspension geometry at all four corner. With this much power, it would be so fun for sure!
Just another video that makes me regret letting my STOCK, white with blue interior EG/DX hatch go. It chucked the stock engine, and I had too many other projects in line. DANG IT! Great channel, guys. Add me to the group of ‘Saturday morning cartoons’ list. Its the way I start my weekends!
i own an EG B engine vtec turbo that i want to try on the track this year so i would have to say for me it is EG all the way, but we have to remember that the EG is what it is because of the EF i really like what you are doing guys,
Loved this series so much but one car I thought of that could compare is the mid 90s Nissan Sentra SE-R....The were ultra light, high revving and very quick cars....I remember get walked by one in my Integra GSR back in the day..
Power and torque is very nice, but the sound of an N/A B series cam change-over & screaming over 8,000 is just beautiful, and lightness is king on a twisty road. Chef's kiss !

I just turned 40 and I have to say, this build series was made for me. In my glory years feelings.
87 si and 89 dx with mpfi swap (5hp) 😂
I had K series 93 Civic Si , 92 Civic Si with an amazing B16B .Should have kept both of them .( I am 60 ) . I just bought a V8 Miata and it is nuts . Not selling this one .

Im 42 and rolling in a 2018 Civic Si 6 -speed :)
For me, the EF is the winner. It’s the better looking, and definately better sounding car. But let’s be honest, both cars are great, this build was such a treat! Thanks, Speed Academy🙏🏻
EF looks like a literal box with wheels... lmao
In every way especially the looks department EG>EF all day!!
@@xRockee Which was a popular look in the 80s.
Some people really like the sharp angles. (I'm one of those people)
100%. EF looks amazing, you must be an old guy like me :)
@@snupermoto723 is 42 considered “old”? 🤣
Back in the 2000s, I had an EG, and my wife had an EF, that makes this series sweeter for me.
That EF just nails that golden era Honda to the T.
Both those cars are so clean, but it's the EG for me. Might be my favorite hatch chassis ever
Senna helped develop the CRX….
@@JNAMOTORSPORTS Senna never drove a 230 hp Group A EG6
Car-toons on a saturday morning with two Hondas and a track battle!
Thank you speed academy!
Car-Tunes❤
The style and lightness of the EF will forever hold a special place in my heart. AutoXed and tracked one for many years.
Older enthiast here (55). Loved watching these two builds. I swapped a B16A (SiR) into my EF 15 yrs ago and still have it. That engine is magical.

Man that turbo EG is hot. But which am I putting in my garage? Vtec EF! It just has this aura around it and it's cool! The Egg will go on no doubt.
Saturday morning Car-toons. Love the track action.
both of these builds are so proper. thank you so much PT and DP for brining us this series. the attention to detail in all phases was very apparent. I hope the YT algorithm gives you the rewards you deserve.
If I could give you 2 thumbs up I would.
The EG got me, and I have only ever owned EF'S.
Great builds!
Do you only have one hand? 😮😅
@@rhubarbpie2027 lol! Well, I do have 2 hands, so I can give 2 thumbs, but only 1 like! Well played!
@@Busydadgarage717 😁 never know with the internet and tech advancementz for those who are differently-abled. Cheers!
I miss my EG. I had one w/ a B16A swap. Was so fun revving to 8000. Maybe I’ll get back into one.
I'm just sorting the rust out on mine at the moment. The cowl panels are spot welded together in bare steel, sealed, then painted/dipped. Watching the tach needle in the EF reach for the steering wheel hub at the top end of each gear is gold. NA B is an absolute symphony!
LOVE this track battle film! You guys have built 2 legendary 80s/90s era Hondas and proven them straight-up on track. Altho these types of films don't get as many views thank you for sticking to your built for street and track principles! Great driving guys
I grew up in a 1991 civic si hatchback, that’s the car that started everything for me. EF ❤!
I know you guys say the track videos don’t get the views, but at the end of the week when there’s a Speed Academy track video that’s new, it jumps to the top of the heap.
I bought my second set of new Continental Tires in part because of your channel FYI.
This whole series was so cool. That EF made me emotional. My first car was a 1990 Si that looked damn near identical. I miss it every day!
I've missed these kinds of videos so much! This is what makes Speed Academy special. Love it!
(EG all the way for me)
Had an EG with B18 type-r engine & torsen, what a sweet memory of 9400rpm red line... But my EFs with D16A9 DOHC were cool too even with less power, the fun was still there.
👏 Applause for taking them to the track and showing they are functional builds and not just ornaments.
That ef interior brings back so many memories for me. I loved my si.
B16 w/ S1 trans in my EF was REALLY fun! Gearing of S1 was comically short but a blast just to drive around town. Plus JDM ECU was still speed limited to 112mph and that was just enough at my local road course long straight. Need a prelude vs integra build off or a mrs spyder vs celica gts build off.
Or a s70 t5 vs saab v6 build off 😮 something we dont see ever 🤔
B16B in both cars and run it back!
I think with a little more time put into the EF's suspension, it would've killed the EG.
This series was such a treat to watch, great job boys!
Lets get this channel to 1 million subscribers
Being an older honda head the EF has my heart as I absolutely love these machines and the platform itself. In the same token the Eg is a beast itself in the performance department between both builds.

That n/a ripper is just too good
LLLEEETTTTTSSS GOOOOOO!!!!!!!! So stoked for this showdown! Loved this build series, all of this is very relatable for most enthusiasts from budget to goals and obviously car choices
Pete trying to show us the beautiful EF sound down the straight and brother wouldn't stop talking 😂
Such an amazing build off, please more golden Era Honda’s 🙏 fantastic to see these come together.
One of the best YT channels! Having owned both, the EG for me is the winner.

Now put a B20 bottom end with 13:1 compression in the EF and run it back again. I bet its A LOT closer. The B16 is just super weak.

Finally been waiting to see those cars on track for so long. Incredible series guys.
❤ you guys had my heart when you said Hot Version! This should be required viewing for all car enthusiasts
Gotta give the win to PT. It’s just faster everywhere and not unruly. DP also has some valve stem seals to change. 😂

Another amazing build series! I can't wait to see whats to come.
The roll race videos bring back so many memories. From Mexico, of course.
Nice to see you guys back at the track, love both cars 🤩
My favorite channel on YT hands down!
As an ef8 owner myself im a little biased toward the ef😂 but i really like both , it was a very good series guy’s … keep up the incredible work😊
Been watching for 8 ish years now. Awesome stuff
happy to see you guys back on the track!
Pete built the perfect budget turbo EG. Dave has the safe/seat time chariot. I love both of them, I hope to see y’all at gridlife fest.
Great video! Thanks a lot guys! Keep doing so well!
Ill take both, please! What a fantastic series. Thank you Speed Academy!!
I love them both equally from a body style perspective but I think the EG with the B16 would be my ideal golden era Honda. This has been a great series!
I’ve owned a few ef and eg. I have a soft spot for both. But I love that b16b for simple Honda love. What a engineering beauty
Great job guys!! Cleanest Civics around.. well executed build on both platforms!!!
Amazing builds. Two beauties. Love em both
Thanks!
The eg/dc integra are the best of both worlds. 90's is the golden era of many car manufacturers (imo) ✌️😎
That EF is absolutely freaking perfect in every way 🤌

Good job guys! Love my EF and really enjoyed this series!!!😊
Coming from an integra type r, Id love to take these two civics out on the track. Nice work guys youre building legends!
This is great. Makes me miss my Hondas, I’d like to build a turbo EK after watching this. There’s just something about them.
Starting my birthday off with speed academy! Gonna be a good day!
Class. Great builds . Brings back memories of teens.
Awesome series, awesome channel. You guys are mind readers when it comes to the types of platforms I love to see :-)
Great video guys love the track on all your guys hard work pays off ! Keep up the great videos
Amazing work guys!
Eg for me! I love the logic of the motor choice with a turbo setup. Don’t have to feel guilty about blowing it up and swapping another one in. Just a more simple route compared to a k swap as well.
One of each for me! They are both so awesome I cant choose between them.
It's insane to me how much nostalgia effects my brain - that EG Civic is the bee's knees and I'd take it over any car from the last 10 years, just based on fun per dollar
On a shorter twisty track, that EF would shine. The suspension looked like it needed a bit more dialing in too. Great video!
I’m a EF all day but mannn!! The eg hatch on point both cars are perfect. Now the EF vs the ITR!!!
God these builds are SO clean. My parents had an 88 Civic so my heart is with the EF.
Finally seeing that tach needle get buried on the EF was SO satisfying.
Very much needed episode on a Saturday morning.
Great job with an awesome Canadian shop and RUclips channel.
Best Motoring International from Canada 😅
Back again for another Saturday morning episode of SA!!! If Dave put a turbo on that VTEC monster, he would give Pete a run for his money! Either or... these 2 retro Hondas were GREAT builds! Well done guys! 🤝
Loved watching the journey i love both equal , I have a b16a eg coupe and I tell you ef or eg both are a raw and a great experience for most drivers
God I love the classic Honda builds! Thankyou again for a great versus! @speedacademy Pete and Dave!

Love both of them I am a Honda fan boy but EG 😅
