incredibly gifted skater who would have for sure been Olympic podium contender in 2026 if not for the age raise. I can't help feeling though that while this short isn't bad, it is a bit beneath her now. it very much gives advanced novice to first year junior vibes and a little juvenile for Mao. while there are plenty of musical accents, there is an impression of it rambling on and on.
I liked this skate, and she is light years ahead of the field. Mao just has a knack for making it look very easy. From the first time I saw her skate, Shimada had the presence and polish of a seasoned elite skater. It is just unfortunate that the current rule change won't allow her to compete in senior international for the time being. I am reminded of when her namesake, Mao Asada, competed at the 2005/2006 Senior Grand Prix Series due to a quirky loophole, but was unable to go to the Olympics and World Championships that year. She won the final ahead of Irina Slutskaya. Here's hoping Shimada is able to transfer to the Olympic level and maintain her technical tricks as well.
Песня Идины Мензел и Кристин Ченоуэт "Бросая вызов гравитации" очень подходит Мао❤ Платье шикарное. Программа прекрасная. Вкатает и будет всё великолепно.
It's not just sad, it's stupid. The sport of figure skating is being run by clueless Moe-Rons. Now more than ever figure skating needs super talented skaters to be able to compete at the highest level to get the public excited and bring in new fans for the sport specially with the winter Olympics coming up. The Olympics is supposed to be a competition to find out the best of the best. That means if U R good enough, U R old enough. Can you imagine the ladies competition line up consisting of Mao Shimada, Mone Shiba, Jia Shin, Sofya Aketieva, Adelia Petrosian, Margo Batylsuk, Alysa Liu, Lindsay Thorngrend and Mia Kalin all competing for the biggest price in Milano?!!. Oh well, we can only dream🙄.
@@PrinceofTroy-kx3nk I want to see the best athletes compete in a fair competition without performance enhancing drugs or other messures that exploit and destroy the human body. I dont want to see a 15 year old win everything for one season just to have a painful back injury, hip fracture or whatsoever career ending and lifelong injury that could have been prevented by giving young girls bodies the time to go through puberty in their tempo and have enough time to fit their technique to their new bodies. Otherwise it wouldnt be a competition of who is the best but a competition of who exploit there own body the best without getting too injured too fast.
@@PrinceofTroy-kx3nk Generally speaking a lot of the things that are known are extremly unhealthy, short sighted and dangerous. For example the dieting. I am not quite sure how it is in other camps, but some of the sambo/tutberidze girls spoke about it a lot. And what they described is crazy. It kinda checks all the boxes for anorexia. Which would lead to a low bone density and a high risk for bone fractures. Thats not sport for me, sorry.
The music is from the musical “Wicked” hence the green dress. Idina Menzel is singing this not Kristen Chenowith as noted in the chiron. Why can’t the skating community ever get this kind of information right? Sloppy and lazy attention to the details.
Dull generic program. Stunning dress and mao has more ability and it needs to be shown with better choreography and music choice lost speed too. She has little competition unfortunately.
Two hair things that detract from a figure skating performance which is common to how Japanese skaters style themselves, a pony tail that flings out during spins with some random clip perched above the pony tail. The gloves are ok, if you don't have nice hand and finger movements. But if you do, then it's a disadvantage to use them, something Russian ladies never understood.
Mao Shimada will soon be 16 years old, and her jumping content in the short program is still not impressive, as is the overall level of skating - and yet she has been the world leader among juniors for two years in a row... Here, for comparison, is the performances of short programs by Russian juniors, who were 11-12 years old last season: Elizaveta Andreeva (11 y.o.): ruclips.net/video/7xzdNNcQ2VI/видео.html Viktoriya Streltsova (11 y.o.): ruclips.net/video/Yhg1Xl4DFkI/видео.html Margarita Bazylyuk (12 y.o.): ruclips.net/video/-ApwsMTIuos/видео.html
Her jumps are not high or as impressive but this girl has individuality, grit, consistency and confidence in bucketloads, which somehow no Russian skater ever had. Maybe they are so undermined and constantly stressed out that they never develop this 'I'm the Queen and I know it' persona. The Russian girls, five years on, nobody remembers them.

There’s a clearer cut of the music from the Japanese JGP and the “my friend” and “I hope you’re happy” parts clearly have Chenowith’s voice
