Great performance by Mao Shimada with marvelous flow and speed, lovely and expressive arm and head movement, beautiful deep running edge of out the jumps, excellent positions in her biellman, camel, I and sit spins with quick transitions between positions, a fabulous long arc on her spiral, minimal pre-rotation on her jumps with beautiful air position, However, the ur call on her quad toe was bogus just like Mao Asada who got so many overly harsh calls
3A and 4T…with CORRECT technique w/o doping!!! The scary part is that, even without the jumps, this is a very, VERY special skater w/ very strong fundamentals and amazing ice coverage.
She doesn't need this jump tbh, as you said without the 4T and 3A you'll still enjoy her skating because she has skating skills unlike some of the Eteri skaters. I'm worried that training this element would injure her. IMO strong basic technique and SS are the most important things that skaters have to master in Junior.
I don't know if I'd classify the 3A as having "correct technique". A skater should jump up into the axel before rotating to give the jump the height and power that the jump deserves; See Ilia Malinin's 3A and 4A for textbook technique. I'm not a fan of these small 3As barely off the ground where the skater starts the rotation early before lifting up into the jump, similar to a roller skating technique.
@@AT-jm4dl You may not like it personally, but you need to separate that from incorrect. ISU does note heavy skid entries with pre-rotations are poor technique-but jumping-out-the-rotate versus jump-as-you-begin-to-rotate are both accepted as correct technique. I do feel your frustration and it might be heartbreaking for Mao at the moment but wouldn’t it be best for young athletes in a long run? High-level jumps become demanding as your body goes through changes, and naturally have higher risks of long-term injuries, not to mention mental health issues that young adults are vulnerable to. @@figulapt3784 But isn't the point of the rule for them to not peak before they hit 17? Body stops growing physically at age 15, at most 16. Puberty on average occrus from 6-13, while growth spurt last from 9 to 15 at most. Skaters would always be injured no matter what their age is. Whether their peak is in their late teens or in their mid-20s depends on how well those injuries are managed by skaters and their team, not on what competitions are they competing. Good technique should be taught to everyone, but even so, it won't spare them from getting injured. If injury is the argument here, then might as well banning figure skating since everyone is getting injured anyway. Banning younger ladies from competing is will NOT result into lesser injuries.
mao is just amazing, such a well-rounded skater at such a young age! and there is no need for her and other juniors to break their bodies trying to learn ultra-c’s. cause being unable to participate at 2026 olys is not THE problem, the problem is that jumping quads and 3a’s she simply might not be able to last until 2030. this does not mean children should be allowed to olys as early is possible, no. this means something is wrong with the system ted is so selflessly praising. those who don’t get it just kinda lack critical thinking, that’s it.
The best thing to do is to demote the way over-rated and exaggerated importance of the Olympics which is based on age and political scoring discrimination and rests the entire reputation of a skater on one single event over the course of four years which is utterly ridiculous. Instead, the relative recognition of Junior's competitions should be elevated and the Olympics recognized for being simply a single skating event and the one most politicized. No less than Mao Asada, Rika Kihira and now Mao Shimada have or will be deprived of participating in an entire Olympic cycle because of the ridiculous need to be half a year over 15 and 17 rule in order to compete and Mai Mihara who had the second highest scoring average on the Japanese team going into Nationals was lowballed by her own fed off the Olympics and Worlds roster by highly biased and politicized scoring. And did the alleged assertion that the goal was to protect skaters by raising the age by half a year help Rika Khira? Quite to the contrary, striving to add a quad and multiple triple axels caused her to have a severe injury which prevented her from competing when she was 19 in 2022, even as she was prevented in 2018 due to the 1/2 year rule at a time when she was the only 15 year old skater who had a twin attack of triple axels, yet another 15 year old Russian skater was allowed to compete and win without any triple axels. By the way, this isn't Alina Zagitova's fault and I do enjoy her skating, Even for those who get the age and politically correct federation lottery ticket, the medalists at the last Olympics still haven't received their medals yet and don't even know their placements in the women's division. Besides, the back story on the concerted efforts to give scoring deflation and sabotage Mao Asada's and Akiko Suzuki's training at the 2014 Olympics is one example of how corruption is swept under the rug and hidden from the public to appease the ISU power elites wishes and the sports media is happy to be their mouthpieces.
