Again, I don’t believe her flip calls are fair. Judges are so much stricter about flip edges than lutz edges. The flip was a bit under but the edge wasn’t unclear like… 😕 I’m really happy for Jia tho! Wishing the best for Mao in her free skate. Manifesting her making it through her ultra-cs.
Well, the purpose of the "!" is because the tech panel isn't too sure about the edge. They can't officially declare the flip to have outside or inside edge. Personally, I think Mao's flip here is a teeny tiny on the outside edge, hence the "!" This event sure has strict judging. When Jia was placed first, I actually thought it's because the tech called Mao's flip as "q". I was reviewing her jumps and the flip to me was landed as q.
I'm beginning to think no one knows what a flutz actually is. that is the term for a clearly inside edge lutz, which is not what Jia showed, at least not today. her lutz looked shallow outside to me, which, while not ideal lutz technique, is a far cry from a flutz. watching on the replay, Mao's flip did look unclear, hence the call. not sure why this is so controversial when she even got some +2s from the judges
@@eowynshieldmaiden Review the slow motion jumps, Jia starts the lutz with a slight outside edge, but becomes a flat before the toe pick, which is exactly the same problem as ALL of Hyunjung Chi's students, Minsol, Yujae, Haein, Yuseong, EVERYONE has the exact same problem with the Lutz, the difference is that the judges usually call the other skaters' flutz, Jia's doesn't and the Mao Flip is clearly inside edge.
@@rodrigofgotd I'd argue a flat lutz isn't categorically a "flutz" (though still worthy of a call ofc) but slowing it down during the program itself (the angle was better than the replay actually) Jia's lutz still looks shallow outside. Mao's flip is not definitively inside however (and the replay angle in that case is better), and that's exactly the right call for it.

Unclear edge on Flip??? Seriously ISU!!! Where did you see that? People jump with wrong edges like Loena and Kaori and you do not even call those edges as unclear. Shame on you!!!
So we should just allow this skater to be uncalled? I agree with the tech panel that her flip look a teeny tiny on the outside edge. That's why they tagged it as "!" I actually thought they deemed her flip as "q" w/c is why jia was able to win over her.
I agree to call out all edges in a coherent standard. Judges are looking for consistency of the skaters, so as the people looking for the judges / technical panels to apply consistent standard in scoring / call out. The problem is the edge of the this skater is called out but closing the eyes on the next skater. That's why so many arguments in the comment of each competition.
@@gracechan1118I admit that Jia used to flutz. However, I urge you to review her specific lutz in her performance. She has a shallow outside edge but it's there. I don't agree that she should be "called out" when she didn't flutz in this specific jump. Instead, the judges should have only given her moderate GOEs for her shallow outside edge. And, in the Technical Panel Handbook it is stated that, "Unclear edge (“!”): -1 to -3" which means the overall GOE can be deducted from -1 up to -3. Shimada's "!" flip was still given positive GOEs. To compare, the last 3F3T combo (JGPF 2023) that Mao jumped that was called clean received the following GOEs: 2 4 2 3 3 2 2 3 2 Now in this competition, her 3F!3T received the following GOEs: 1 2 2 2 1 0 1 1 1 This side by side could give us a clue on the deductions from the unclear edge, which were: -1 -2 0 -1 -2 -2 -1 -2 -1 In this scenario, not a single judge gave Mao a -3 and one judge didn't even follow the deduction rules. As you can see, the tech panel are still lenient when it comes to scoring Mao. Kaori has gotten some "!" and even "e" on her lutz this season. I know her lutz doesn't get called all the time and it should, but it has gotten called. In general, the tech panel always seems stricter with the flip than with the lutz. that being said, flips should still be called and Mao's didn't look definitively inside on the replay

The judges should just have properly called her 3F as q .

Again an unclear edge? Why her tes dropped
should have been 3Fq instead of 3F!

3F!+3T ---> I can't see the edge issue in the flip. Please clarify.

her edge was unclear
she still got a positive goe
so as the edges of the next skater. so which one should be the standard?
Judges are stupid, ngl
An evidently consistent Flip called by the judges while an obvious flutz from Jia Shin receives a 2.11 goe.
Judges could better disguise favoritism
