I love Matthew's progression. From fully embracing his tax collector lifestyle, his dedication to Rome by insisting on speaking to Quintus about Simon. The questioning of Jesus' miracle. Making contact with his mother, longing for that connection with family. The moment he makes eye contact with Jesus. The invitation/acceptance offered in spite of who he is and what he does. Paras has the ability to express emotions with His facial expression and eyes!
No one IS an outcast in The Heavenly Trinity’s Eyes & Heart (sometimes I feel I see that belief or burden in many people, yes even you Brandon, but I bet Jesus & Vanessa try to tell you different❣️🙏✝️🕊️) I’ve been teased about being a “Mutt” from Family to full Blooded Italian…you name it, Friends & Bullies (I could beat up anyone of any size or strength being taught how to fight from Kindergarten on in what’s now called “Mixed Martial Arts Style: Jujitsu/bare Fisted Boxing/Dirty Fighting/Survival Style) & was a Basic Tomboy who just wanted to get along with everyone in in every group that wasn’t “Too Good For Those They felt Above”! I didn’t understand why growing up in the 1960’s & living much of my time at my Paternal Grandparent’s Restaurant & Small Farm & loving my Friends of all colors & giving ( unknown to me at that young age my Grandparents didn’t mind & were Proud that I gave the workers Pepsi Bottles during the day & made up take home Pepsi & Restaurant Food at the end of the Day to make sure no matter what Color Skin (& all Colors of People worked for them & I played with their Children) but when I went to School in Kindergarten I got picked on for being “White” (I was as brown as a Nut from the Sun & besides light bleached Sun highlights in my hair & was the same kid that sent home Cold Pepsi Bottles & hot Meals to them out of Love, Friendship & Caring & learned all sorts of things on their Mama’s hips as they cooked & helped in the Restaurant, etc but I was a “Whitey” & my Dad fresh out of the USA Navy taught me, too well, how to fight & protect myself from who I thought were my Friends‼️It broke my heart & I developed a Reputation for being either Someone to Not Mess With or Someone to prove you were tough with! My skills made me Physically unbeatable despite size, sex or strength but it didn’t protect my Heart or Soul! I still Love Everyone & see God’s Face in Each of Theirs but😢! 🙏✝️🕊️🇺🇸🕊️🇮🇱🕊️🙏♥️💙💖💙♥️💖💞🙏

I love how Dallas & Co weave the storyline so that by Season 4 when Gaius says he is unworthy both Matthew and Peter smile and each says neither were they --- best moment ever! Dallas & Co do an incredible job is bringing the scriptures to life!!! I could watch these episodes over and over (oops, I do!!) There is very little on TV worthwhile but I can pick up the Bible after watching an episode and enjoy reading my favorite book.
I love how Gaius says "I said keep..." Then he turns around to see Matthew coming out of the tax booth haha. He's like hey, keep moving Jesus, wait, hold on...lol
the message on Matthews calling is rhe same for the woman at the well, the thief on the cross , the shepards at His birth and all the fisherman too. Jesus loves to call, reach out to, to love the lowest of the low on the scale of human depravity. God can do that so wonderously but my church demonination cannot and is causing a chism/split now because of their lack of total and complete unconditional love.
Epiphany: Jesus confirmed Matthew's attitude towards his old job when He later told the pharisees to render to Cesar what is Cesar's, and to render to God what is God's. Nothing better than to be vindicated by God Himself
When I first saw this episode, I tried to describe it to some people in church and I said "He just dropped everything and went". Well, of course they said they knew that, they'd known it since childhood. I get that - so had I, but after seeing this I knew it in a much different way. In a way I can't explain it almost took me by surprise. I understood how huge it was for all concerned.
In Luke I believe they state that both Matthew and Little James’s father is named Alpheus in a book by Jerry Jenkins centered around Matthew he made them brothers. Any thoughts on this have you read any of Jerry Jenkins’s books other than the Chosen book 4?
Until you mentioned it halfway through this video, it never crossed my mind that when Gaius was talking about Matthew's "old friend Simon", he was referring to Simon Peter! They hardly knew each other, weren't friends and certainly not "old friends". I was thinking more of one of Mathew's tax-collector friends. However, you might have a point - hmmm ....
I have often wondered myself what was the language spoken in the community when they are among gentiles. It's most likely for communication purposes, was Latin or Greek simultaneously spoken? I think in series two, I forgot which episode, when Jesus was taken by Aticus and Gaius with the Roman soldiers apprehended Jesus for questioning. Jesus asked Gaius permission to say goodbye to his mother, by using a Latin word 'mater' to interpret what Hebrew word 'Imma' is for the meaning of mother. I wonder if Roman Latin and Greek was the common language used among Jewish communities? Was Aramaic the language spoken by Romans?
Jesus choses people that who may not be thought of as worthy. He can change people into someone who can be an inspiration to someone else and share Jesus ' teaching and the Word of God. My example is Saul out to kill Jesus' followers. He was changed by Jesus to spread the gospel and change his name to Paul. Jesus can change the meanest person to his follower by replacing hate with love.
This is a pretty heavily debated topic. We don't have any proof or manuscripts that are in Hebrew or Aramaic. The Manuscripts we have are all Greek as far as I'm aware. The idea that his first manuscript was in Hebrew comes from an ancient testimony of that.
I love the knowing little looks Mary gives sometimes. It's like she "gets" Jesus more than the others.
Great deep dive. Matthew shows us that EVERYONE is called by Jesus. No one is an outcast 😊
I love how they depicted Matthew & how he was called. And you could just see the hunger in Matthew, spiritual hunger. ❤️

Love Matthew reaction to Jesus calling him to follow.

Thanks!
The Chosen writers are geniuses and spirit filled.
Did my own thing for many years. Since I saw the first episode of The Chosen I've done a complete turn around.
Sad to hear about pepper😢
The key to his house!
No. That comes up later. He still has it. Also they went to his house that night

I agree completely; but I just watch the commentators now.
I really love this episode.

Love the calling of Matthew. Hello didn't hesitate to follow

And, both were chosen by Jesus!!
Matthew's calling was indeed special and your explanation distinctly told us why. Thank you.

Hello Brandon
Anybody remember Richie Cunningham’s older brother? He disappeared after season one so maybe Matthew’s sister is hanging out with him.
When I first saw this episode, I tried to describe it to some people in church and I said "He just dropped everything and went". Well, of course they said they knew that, they'd known it since childhood.

Hardest thing for a parent to say. You should go

The language comment: I had always assumed that Matthew spoke Hebrew or Aramaic because he wrote his book in Hebrew for the Jews.
This is a pretty heavily debated topic. We don't have any proof or manuscripts that are in Hebrew or Aramaic. The Manuscripts we have are all Greek as far as I'm aware. The idea that his first manuscript was in Hebrew comes from an ancient testimony of that.
I noticed that Mary is smiling throughout this part of the episode. I believe it's because they were (are) " sinners" in their society!
Nooo! Pepper died??? 😭😭😭
No key to his booth. Sorry
I think you might be reading into this too much?
