It’s a beautiful bike. I’m 6’2 95kg with longer legs. Ive happily ridden it for consistent days, with the only issue being my knees around 3 hours of straight riding. But a quick pit stop and I’m good for another couple hours!

I bought one of these this summer and I absolutely love it. Everything Yammie says is true. Neutral is hard to find. Menu system unintuitive. Everything else is excellent in my experience. Way better than other similarly priced options here in the UK. We also get the smoked screen and integrated front indicators which make the bike look even better. It’s my first Italian bike after a Honda and a Yamaha and the first 1250 miles I’ve put on it have been great.
Fair and accurate review. I picked up my Tuono 660 Factory in early August. I have around 1700 miles on it and absolutely love it. Don’t worry Yam, I have confidence in you to figure out the ride modes. I do prefer the standard spedo over the track lap timer, so it was a little bummed that you didn’t show that. One of my only frustrations is that neutral has a mind of its own as you demonstrated. I look forward to seeing your track day on it and what upgrades you will do. Thanks for the video!
I'm glad to know neutral isn't just finicky on my bike! Some days it'll go into neutral first try. Some days I have to shift up and down 15 times to get it into neutral. Awesome bike though. Got mine mid July. Already have 5,500 miles on it!
@@Dooby0071 I think it depends on your experience level prior. Did you ride dirt bikes, take a beginner rider safety course, etc. It is a spicy meatball but if you keep the wheelie control on and start in commute mode you should be ok. I have 5000 miles on mine now and still feel like it is faster than I need.
Wow! I lost track of you for several years and the progression you've made as a journalist is profound! Excellent, excellent job. FWIW, we have 4 Aprilia's now: 2018 Dorsodoro, 2022 RS660, 2022 Tuono 660 Factory, and just picked up a 2022 Tuono V4 Factory (this is my 2nd V4). Your review is spot on but, I will say that when you actually own the bike and want to learn everything about it, the electronics become a lot more intuitive. I'm not saying it doesn't take a minute but to get out of Challenge (aka one of the Race Modes), one only has to press and hold the right arrow button and go to "Vehicle" and switch from Race to Road. Then, the bottom right button under the starter switch will allow you to change to the different modes. Yes, that's a lot of different button pushes there so, again, I agree with you that it's not intuitive when you first jump on. Being an owner and having played with the bikes and read the manual, it's really not too bad and to have the options that these menus give you actually increases the value of these wonderful bikes that much more. If you're ever in the College Station area, let me know and we'll show you around some of our twisties. Take care.
I have watched this review about 8 times now, and ultimately decided to buy a 2022 Tuono 660 Factory. This is an excellent review of this motorcycle, save for the griping about the electronics. As a moto-journalist, you'd want to have a basic understanding of the electronics before you offer your opinion. Yes, if you sit on the bike cold, it would take some fiddling to figure it out. But a quick RUclips instructional video or even reading the manual would show you how easy it to operate the electronics. All this is to say, don't let the griping about the electronics dissuade you from considering this motorcycle. If anything, the fact that you have to go to an Aprilia dealer to get the d@mn service light reset is a far worse of a negative against this bike.
He wasn't criticizing the electronics, he was criticizing the user interface. I think it's legit - an interface in the 21st century should be intuitive.
I HIGHLY recommend. I modded my '21 Tuono, but this Factory version has all of that, plus better suspension all around. I have ~1200mi on mine and love it.
It's so easy to find neutral when the QS linkage isn't there. Have the standard Tuono 660, picked up a QS after a few hundred miles and took the QS off a few hundred miles later.
Thanks Yammie. Watched a lot of your videos and appreciate your style and humour. Just bought this Aprilia since the dealer gave a fantastic deal. Goodbye KTM Duke 390.
I have the 2022 Tuono and have no issues with finding neutral. I don't have the factory or quickshifter installed. So I don't know if that's the main issue. As far as the ride modes very easy to get to, just below the starter/kill switch. Just tap the button to cycle through the modes. Happy Holidays!
Honestly, it took about 150 km of riding to find the Neutral with ease. I don’t believe this bike has an issue with this. Indeed, is not as smooth as Japanese bikes but more than manageable.
Just a tip, all motorcycles can be difficult to find neutral at times. Just rock the bike back and forward. Also for reviews, it’s best to understand how to use its menu correctly. Also, no in a time attack track mode cruise control would not be required. Thanks for the video.
I'm over here thinking about getting my first bike sometime soon, a buddy of mine with an RSV4 is off to the side poking me going "get an aprilia rs 660 as your first bike" so far i have flooded my youtube with rs and tuono 660 videos because I'm basically just now discovering aprilia. I can absolutely say I'm in love with both versions of the 660 as far as sound and appearance. Little iffy though on something like that beimg a first bike, but I'd rather have a sport bike of some kind over what my original choice was to be honest 😅
Ive heard theyre great starter bikes. Im considering the tuono 660 as my first sport bike, coming from a 1985 honda shadow 750... So will be like starting fresh haha.
I have a 2021 RS 660 and I still can't get over how good it sounds with the standard exhaust. Which should not even be possible with all the rules and regulations we have nowadays! I used to own a GSXR-750 (non-fuel injected) back in the day and this is so much smaller and more nimble it is almost chocking. It also does not feel like riding a handgranade with the safety-pin out. Which makes it the perfect returning sportbike rider bike :) I will probably only upgrade mine to a factory edition if that feels significantly different.
Nice review, I am a big Aprilia fan, on my 3rd Tuono 1100 Factory, absolutely amazing machines. I would really like to get a 660 out on track, should be a total blast.
Great little bike, gearbox loostens up after some spirited riding. My only major gripe is it does vibrate - a lot and Aprilia knows it as they snuck in extra weight metal inside the handlebar on the bar end weights. Great bang for the buck and can take on bigger and faster bikes if you know how to ride😎
I just got this bike three days ago and I had the same problem. Didn’t know how to get back to road mode. Then I finally figured it out. You have to hold the right arrow twice 😂
This bike is awesome! Factory suspension settings are a bit firm for the street out of the gate but adjustable. I agree that navigating the electronics isn't intuitive. A sexy little bike that will be a blast on track days!
I love the concept of this bike. Start w/ lightness (400Lbs.), mate it w/ slightly more HP that needed, on a well sorted chassis & add electronics to prevent the mistake of breaking your sternum? Think: Triumph Street triple- I did that! (Thank God- close to home!) The Tuono 660 RS 'factory' does that. Imu, years of perfecting it- love it! Premium price- sure. It fights well above it class. I want one, Yammie Noob!
i just got back from testing a few bikes. mt09, mt10 and this tuono 660. and by all bike the 660 is the "weakest" but i felt at home when sitting on it. on the mt09 i drove it for 3 hours and i was still feeling uneasy in the corners. the mt10 felt more stable but its to poerful. however the 660 took me maybe 1 hour of riding before i felt ocnfident on it. i could pin the throttle and shift my body a little bit. it also felt the most stable and predictable in the corners copared to the other bikes. also i could lock the steering at full turn after a little bit of riding which im usually not used to even on my current bike which ive ridden for 40k km. altough thats my experience from only 4-5 hours of riding it for the first time, i would say at least 1000km on a bike before u get to "know it". But im pretty sure the tuono 660 will be my next bike.
The neutral is a mess. Found that it s easier to put in neutral while slowly rolling to the stop (before coming to a halt). The modes are super simple, took 2 mins for the guy at the shop to explain, don’t be that lazy.
Oh and yeah. If the elecs are that hard for you, spend 5 min and become a pro at using them. Its actually good. IDK why u were in Challenge mode. 3 street modes, 2 track modes, and ur in a track mode on the street, yeah Id be confused too. Except I read the manual and its simple.
Damn, so happy to see a review to confirm how near-impossible it can be to find neutral... I'm happy to own a Tuono 660, but I've had so much issues trying to get into neutral and i got worried that it was just my luck with a bad model. I think it could be related to the quickshifter, but surely I hope that someday I can get into neutral in less than 30 seconds...
It’s an Italian thing. I’ve owned multiple Moto Guzzi bikes and they’re all the same. Not impossible, but finding neutral is equivalent to finding gold at the end of a rainbow. It does get better with mileage on the bike (many miles, like 20,000+)
I like the review. I was interested in this bike but your review told me all the reasons why it's not for me. Nice job telling all the details both good and not so good 👍
Hey, man! Thanks for the review! I think you might be the one who has some answers to my questions. I could say I am a beginner in the bike world, with only a few thousand km on board. I am planning to buy a new bike. My first real bike. And for the moment, the struggle is between the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory. I just drove a Ninja yesterday and what I absolutely loved was the driving position. As you said, you could maybe drive hours without any problems. Unfortunately, I cannot test the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory as they don't have it for demos. My question is.. how do you find the position on the Tuono 660 Factory compared to the one on Ninja? Which one is more comfortable? is it more upright or on the contrary a bit more lean forward on Aprilia? ANd what about wind protection at high speeds? With the Ninja 650 I was surprised how decent I felt. I am not sure if I will have the same feeling on Aprilia. Regarding electronics and performance, maybe even looks, no doubt Aprilia wins. But the ergonomy and wind protection seem to be pretty important for me. Thanks in advance!
@@basi-vega35 each be good choice however it really depend on your indyvidual preferences in some subtle diffrenc between them ,one is sure rs 660 is weakest slowest bike from your list 👌🏻on straight offcorse due to least hp which its engine generate 👌🏻 corner there be not to much diffrence👌🏻
I loved this bike but itnnot having the low end torque makes it a no go for me. I'm not trying to be the track guy. I want a quick, torquey little nimble bike. That honda hornet is looking good to me
Honestly have wanted the Tuono 660 ever since I first laid my eyes on it. Have been commuting on a z400 for 3k miles now and felt it would be the perfect replacement. Light enough to handle in traffic, rider modes for when I get rained out, cruise control when I have to ride 2 hours just to get to the mountain twisties, some basic fairings to take the edge off wind, looks that make me drool, and a price point that makes me want it more than a mt 09sp. Un-fucking-fortunately it seems that this bike and Aprilia in general has a abysmal record in terms of dependability. Browsing owners forums, it seems inevitable that something catastrophic will happen to the bike. Oil leaks, coolant leaks, breaking connecting rods, electric malfunctions, the list is endless. And given supply chain issues, parts take months! My bike is my only form of trabsportarion, and I’m fucking heartbroken I can’t replace my trusted z400 with the tuono 660 😢. And what’s even more infuriating is how motorcycle manufacturers haven’t responded to the rs660 or tuono 660. I was up late for intermot and eicma hoping there would be a challenger to Aprilia, but to no avail. Honda hornet, dud, Suzuki gsx8s, dud, street triple - triumph freaking giving cruise control only as an option on the rs driving the price to $15k! I have been on this endless merry go round mindfuck on what to replace my bike with since I ride close to 100 miles a week commuting, and the only solution I see is keep racking miles on my z400 till it dies, or find a 2015 bmw r1200r with 15k miles on it for $8k. @yammienoob - how can you give the tuono 660 9.2/10 and recommend it to as a good commuter, knowing full well its known reliability issues? Isn’t reliability inherently a function of performance. TL;DR - mid 30s motorcycle commuter butt hurt he can’t get the Tuono 660 as a second bike because of reliability issues 😅
The solution to your problem; get a MT09-SP. All the same bells and whistles as the tuono 660 for just a bit more money. As an added bonus you get a little more power too + Yamaha reliability which is heaps above Aprilia. Unless ofcourse you can't stand the look of it which I can understand. Aprilia are in a league of their own when it comes to styling imo.
Reliability is never covered by reviewers and it really is annoying. Its almost as if they ignore it on purpose. Or they just dont care since they arent daily riding
I have an RS660 as a dedicated track bike. I love it. How does the engine feel on his, vs the RS? I am thinking of daily rider, and the odd canyon ride ;-)
I have never driven a motorcycle. Do you know of a good starter motorcycle to start with and then upgrade to a Tuono 660 from? I was thinking of a Kawasaki 400 or a Yamaha R3. If you have a better option, then I'd love to hear it!
I got the Honda CB500X as my first bike. Absolutely love it. I’m looking to get my second bike and this Tuono 660 factory seems like it’s the one for me.
@brucegill4218 you have a lot of summer left this year, why do you want to wait specifically for a bike to be released? Get a used tuono and you will probably be more satisfied than what a cf as well probably
Yammie mentioned the Buell XB9 briefly here. How does it compare to this bike for the "fun factor"? I've got an XB9 and I think it's so much fun; not fast but punchy, super nimble and it sounds amazing (with Buell race exhaust and ecm). Would a Tuono 660 be redundant?
is this bike able to safely pass on high ways going like 75 - 85 mph ? i have a 400cc and it just takes to long to pass at that speed safely i want to be able to get ahead when i wasnt to pass. is this 660 enough ?
Very good review, it becomes a little trying for my ears, if you could have a little break now and then between the sentence, a very common thing on RUclips
Nope, the rear brake cannot possibly squeak more than mine. I can make it sing in falsetto. If Chewbacca could hit falsetto. Yes its definitely a high pitched wookie back there
and i will say, at 5'11", 32" inseam, 155lbs, I find flat footing it a touch tricky, maybe not on my toes but def on the balls of my feet. It feels wide at the seat to me, wayyy diff than my CB500F for example. Maybe Im just not used to tiptoeing on sportbikes.
Mine howled like crazy. I was embarrassed to use the rear brake. The dealer fixed it at the break in oil change. Started howling again 200 miles later but not as bad. They said it had something to do with shimming the pads. I guess they don’t strike evenly.
Idk. But yesterday I met a guy on a 890, black n red like my Factory, we were both digging each others ride for sure. Sounded sick af with SC Project on it!
I drove for some time the rs 660 during my drivers licence and I was struggling to find the pedal for the rear brakes.Since I haven’t tried the tuono yet I was wondering if this was the case for you. I’m considering to get myself a tuono factory 660

The bike is pretty, I do love the looks but what's up with all the electronics? Finally it's gotten to a point where a pro like Yams won't even bother with the menu. Manufacturers should just stick to making good machines without the computers. Trust humans a little and yes bikes will be cheaper.

The neutral is a mess. Found that it s easier to put in neutral while slowly rolling to the stop (before coming to a halt). The modes are super simple, took 2 mins for the guy at the shop to explain, don’t be that lazy.
I can not understand. I have 2x 660 and neutral gear is perfect on both.
As a TIP, a shift shaft should improve this.
(ur high beam switch becomes the lap timer trigger in the race modes)
YEEEEESSSS the review I was waiting for!!!!
I had a 2003 Aprilia RSV 1000 and 20 years later they still can’t get right into neutral lmao, welcome to Italy!
i had the problem in the beginning as well but after a couple of KM it was just as smooth as any other bike
@@liamvanootegem4057 en wat was in jouw geval een paar km?
@@michelb9847 ik denk al vroeger maar op 1000 km was hij gegarandeerd perfect schakelt ook makkelijk naar neutraal zelf als gij koud staat
It’s an Italian thing. I’ve owned multiple Moto Guzzi bikes and they’re all the same. Not impossible, but finding neutral is equivalent to finding gold at the end of a rainbow. It does get better with mileage on the bike (many miles, like 20,000+)
Not sure if it applies to the 660 but on the V4 swapping to Motul oil did wonders for the gearbox feel. No more hunting for neutral.
I like the review. I was interested in this bike but your review told me all the reasons why it's not for me. Nice job telling all the details both good and not so good 👍
Test ride it !
Steel frames I don’t like because they rust with time, unlike the aluminium ones
Topped mine out at 137
142*
I’m 6’3 and feel comfortable on it
I'm same height just order a new one, can't wait 😁
I know it's an intermediate bike but damn... it's a LOT of bike. Amazing. I need one
Is it a good entry level bike? Or should we stick with the Busa?
I got this as my first bike and I'm loving it so far.
@@JoshPhillips7781 me too!
Yammie would you rather have a mt09 sp, street triple rs or a aprilia 660 factory?
Its between this,Moto2 Daytona, and Suzuki 750 as my next bike. Can’t decide!
Whats gona be the main use?
I already have a 2022 Trident as my main ride,so this would be for light track use, rippin’ on twisties on backroads too
I love middleweight bikes!
Have a rs660 Stars and Stripes. Absolutely love it! Also yeah finding neutral on it sucks.
I have Tuono 660 and that bike is easy to find neutral.
Spend an hour or two with the bike and owner's manual. Patience, my friend. Don't worry, you'll do fine!
Gorgeous piece of Italian machinery 👌🏼🇮🇹🏍️ what exhaust did you end up going with?!
I loved this bike but itnnot having the low end torque makes it a no go for me. I'm not trying to be the track guy. I want a quick, torquey little nimble bike. That honda hornet is looking good to me
That was a decent honest review. Not going to lie, this bike doesn’t interest though. Ok that said, I would definitely like to see Yammie track it!
Aprilia are in a league of their own when it comes to styling imo.
the bike works perfectly for me
Reliability is never covered by reviewers and it really is annoying. Its almost as if they ignore it on purpose. Or they just dont care since they arent daily riding
I have an RS660 as a dedicated track bike. I love it. How does the engine feel on his, vs the RS? I am thinking of daily rider, and the odd canyon ride ;-)
Such a well review on this bike you do a good job 👏🏾 👍🏾 💯
Good review, thanks
Looks like a cool bike, but I like my old Street Triple 675R. I am not a big fan of rider modes, seems unnecessary. Looks are awesome though.
Really wanted one, but now with the launch of the'23 street triple RS, I may have to go back to Triumph. We shall see.
What should I choose??? Tuono 660 or mt09sp?
I have never driven a motorcycle. Do you know of a good starter motorcycle to start with and then upgrade to a Tuono 660 from? I was thinking of a Kawasaki 400 or a Yamaha R3. If you have a better option, then I'd love to hear it!
I got the Honda CB500X as my first bike. Absolutely love it. I’m looking to get my second bike and this Tuono 660 factory seems like it’s the one for me.
Seems like a great bike. Wish he had tried out the cruise control.
Just FYI, and don't quote me, I believe all the aprilia models use the exact same throttle, not sure how it would feel any different on a Tuono V4.. 😅
Man I haven't even riden it yet and I already know it is a blast. I'm looking forward to try it so bad.
Hey yammy would you consider that a beginner bike or would you think the Aprilia RS 457 what would be a better beginner bike
Don't get the rs 457 bro
@@Willy_Wanka I'm waiting for the CF Moto 675 triple to come out in 2025 it's supposed to be released that's what they're saying
@brucegill4218 you have a lot of summer left this year, why do you want to wait specifically for a bike to be released? Get a used tuono and you will probably be more satisfied than what a cf as well probably
@@Willy_Wanka that's true
Yammie mentioned the Buell XB9 briefly here. How does it compare to this bike for the "fun factor"? I've got an XB9 and I think it's so much fun; not fast but punchy, super nimble and it sounds amazing (with Buell race exhaust and ecm). Would a Tuono 660 be redundant?
Tuono 660 feels faster and more racey✊🔥15 more hp 😎
Xsr900 or tuono 660? I want a sport touring bike that isn’t super uncomfortable in terms of wind blast and i’m considering these two
Heart says Tuono. Brain says MT09. Decisions, decisions
Kimo says Tuono. So much sexier
Sit on both and see how you feel.
go the middle way and get the new street triple RS, its a killer of a bike
That’s a shame that the factory version comes in black color only. Love the colors on the non-factory one
So I just finished my msf course and need a bike. Could this be an ok beginner bike?
I rip my buddies 660 from time to time, it's a decent bike imo,
Hey yammie, I want to know what were the difference between drive shaft, chain or belt...???
cost of maintenance.
is this bike able to safely pass on high ways going like 75 - 85 mph ? i have a 400cc and it just takes to long to pass at that speed safely i want to be able to get ahead when i wasnt to pass. is this 660 enough ?
My brother owns the RS660 and it's very quick, mostly because it's very light. It's got a lot of punch and go.
Very good review, it becomes a little trying for my ears, if you could have a little break now and then between the sentence, a very common thing on RUclips
KYB forks like Yamahas, and Sachs in the rear 👌🏾
To anyone who has ridden both, is it really a worthy alternative to a Duke 890?
Idk. But yesterday I met a guy on a 890, black n red like my Factory, we were both digging each others ride for sure. Sounded sick af with SC Project on it!
The Duke is going to feel a lot more manic, torque rich, and flickable. The tuono is going to feel more revvy, sweeping like turns (I.e. track like)
So i noticed a piece of foam or somethjng with the yammie noob logo towards right on the handlebars. What is that?
Master Brake fluid reservoir cover.
Planing on getting one after im done with my duke 390
I drove for some time the rs 660 during my drivers licence and I was struggling to find the pedal for the rear brakes.Since I haven’t tried the tuono yet I was wondering if this was the case for you. I’m considering to get myself a tuono factory 660
Street Triple 765 RS over this all day. 💯
Would love to see a street fighter v2 review - put it head to head against this!
100hp vs 155hp… Ducati will obviously win
@@NudaMan doesn’t have to be about which bike wins… so much more to it than just HP…
Both are the two cylinder bikes to much bigger v4 machines from premium euro manufactures.
Monster is probably the only fair comparison
only thing that bothers me about this bike and all nakeds, is the lack of wind protection. like literally whats the point of making a bike go 140+ but no wind protection.
I think I’m sold i want one look forward to the track day on the bike
Thanks!
Such a sick bike🙌🏼
I like it very much, just need alot of money to get one.
I would think you of all people would have stopped passing on a solid yellow line
can edit in adobe premier and sync audio - can't figure out a menu system in an aprilia that takes about 60 secs while stationary. weird complaint bro.
What is the price of routine maintenance on one of this??
Is everyone reporting the scam replies? That isn't Yammie Noob
Would it be good for me if Im 6'3? I currently ride a 390 duke so Im used to a small bike, I don't mid the size so much but I want something more stable than the 390 duke.
Love it
Finding neutral on an Aprilia.... why even bother ? 😂😂 (I owned two Tuono's)
Its not just me then
Oh... by the way, I have found out that there's a way to find neutral on the Ape, and that's by a light tap down on the gear shifter from second. It's not 100% perfect, but fuggetabout getting it in neutral from first. 🤞🏻💪🏻😎
The GODTIER code doesnt work for me. Oh well🤣
This is the bike John Wick uses in Chapter 4
its so weird that the US version doenst have integraded headlight like mine the EU
Wait til u get to throttle map 1. U didnt get that in Challenge mode. Just sayin, I notice a big diff
The bike is pretty, I do love the looks but what's up with all the electronics? Finally it's gotten to a point where a pro like Yams won't even bother with the menu. Manufacturers should just stick to making good machines without the computers. Trust humans a little and yes bikes will be cheaper.
I bet its great but at the end of the day its an aprilia and u will have dumb problems where it spends more time in the shop than on the road
Aprilia electronics take 5 minutes to understand, max.
You can simply say this bike doesn't have Neutral. I can barely get to it after 5-10 tries.
