This scene was extremely intense to watch. We all knew the outcome of the situation already because of the earlier headlines but it was still hard to watch him go through that horrible ordeal.

Jessica Buchanan's story is always mindblowing. She's being held by Somalians in a little makeshift camp. In the middle of the night SEALs parachute in, walk a few miles, engage and kill all enemies, but then get spooked when the think an enemy force has reacted and is coming, they all pile on and lay on top of her to protect her. I mean.. using your bodies to protect someone, holy shit. They then hike out, treat her injuries, and helo out. Insane skills.

That is one of the smartest decisions by a character in cinematic history- the fact it happened in real life makes it even more incredible. One of my favorite movie scenes ever, and truthfully some of the best shots ever taken.

The music actually followed what was happening with the plane. That movie showed what happened in real on 9/11 that took place on September 11, 2001 in the United States. That plane which that movie focused on a lot, crashed, killing all 44 (including 4 hijackers on board) people. Before it crashed, the people who are heros fought back the hijackers, this music was used at that part of the movie. Was watching a featurette on a stunt for the latest Mission Impossible movie and Tom Cruise apparently has a little saying "don't be careful, be competent". I have to imagine this is something SEALs would probably agree with along with the old saying "Hope is not a strategy".

Contrary to popular belief, the snipers did not take one shot each. They took several shots each. According to Mark Owen, former DEVGRU Operater who was on that mission, the life boat was riddled with bullets from several shots taken by each sniper. That being said, these snipers still hit incredibly difficult shots and Captain Phillips was saved. Absolutely amazing!

The movie's casting crew did a great job on selecting the actors playing the Samoli pirates. They were viciously scary looking along side & next to the crew of the ship Maersk Alabama. The Navy was bad ass as allways !

Tom hanks has survived a hijacking, was stranded on an island for 5 years after a plane crash and had to live in an airport terminal for a while....all because he was given special powers while working at a prison early in his life.....LUCKY!
Oh Boy, still knowing this is a movie scene- it grips u like hell. What amazing direction.

The movie's casting crew did a great job on selecting the actors playing the Samoli pirates. They were viciously scary looking along side & next to the crew of the ship Maersk Alabama. The Navy was bad ass as allways !
The Royal Navy would be too worried about the pirate's human rights to rescue the captain.
If the Royal Navy was there in a type 45 destroyer and the water was slightly too warm their entire propulsion system would break down. It’s really sad how crappy the Royal Navy has become.

People keep saying excellent job by Tom Hanks. The guys that played the Somali pirates were outstanding. Everytime i watch this movie it feels like the first time.Great job to everyone!!!!

The Seal Team commander on this operation, the guy who said “execute”, his name was Lt CMDR Jonas Kelsall and was killed on Aug 11 2011 in Afghanistan when his helicopter was hit with an RPG. RIP Lt CMDR Jonas Kelsall.
That scene where Captain is asking the kid to just surrender because he is too young for this just made me tear up. It's not the kids fault being born in poverty, having limited choices in life, which made him end up there. I think captain philips can see that.

And those snipers, for two boats to be nodding about at different time and hit all three targets at the same time is outstanding!

One of the most satisfying death scenes in cinema history. The fact that this happened in real life made it even better.
Satisfying that Phillips was saved... not satisfying that teenage kids were killed in the process. When Muse realizes all his friends are dead, he is then read his rights. Rights.... something his friends would never know and never could know, because they died in the only lucrative work available. Really gives an element of humanity to the pirates, especially the youngest one who Phillips was telling to put his hands up.

Who almost shot him because he was panicking. Imagine killing someone who does not pose a threat to you because you do not have any respect for the lives of humans at all, and you decide that other people have to pay with their lives for your insecurities. There was NO reason or any kind of benefit in murdering Captain Philipps, yet if they hadn't been shot by the great heroes of the marine corps, they would have done exactly that. All four of the pirates are objectively horrible humans who deserved what happened to them, and it fills my heart with childlike joy to know that three of them are burning in hell already

I am grateful that I can see humanity in such horrific actions, even if you are too one dimensional and reactionary of a thinker to do the same. I sincerely hope you never end up in a situation where you make a grave error of judgement and require the compassion of others to gain redemption

Everyone makes mistakes, but I would never plan and execute the kidnapping of an innocent man and then threaten his life because I panick, despite him not posing any threat whatsoever to me. That's because I am a human and not a soulless demon. Like his abductors.
The part where Captain Phillips is yelling "i love you!!" to his family had me crying up a storm along with the rescue scene 😭😭

Even though this is the same music from the end of United 93, it still fits so well with this scene.
I.ts a testament to the men who go through hell to be the best of the best so we can be safe in our homes watching this.

Barkhad Abdi did incredible as the head pirate. Also saw him in an episode of Hawaii Five O. That guy has a great potential as an actor.
