    • @Southboundpachyderm
      @Southboundpachyderm Год назад

They did absolutely overly humanize and fabricate a story about them with this movie. Go read the real story by Matt Cole about these guys. The reason no one ever got to see the picture of osama after they killed him and something the commanders and president were furious about is that they "canoed" osama. A form of mutilation (and a war crime) they were known for in which with dying or dead soldiers they would shoot them in the top of the head to expose their brain matter and then take pictures they saved in an album they'd pull out to "impress" other soldiers. Each man also took turns emptying entire mag clips into osama after they had been explicitly told NOT TO DO THAT by the commanders in charge. The people who identified him at the base later could barely even recognize him because he was so mutilated. This movie is an account from a guy who is most certainly not the one who originally shot him, and it's washed down to hide how these guys were mostly just incompetent war criminals running a mafia like organization inside the seals. Seriously. Go read "Code before Country" by Matthew Cole if you want the actual story of who these men were. Not saying Osama didn't deserve to die because he fuckin definitely did, but these guys were supposed to be the most professional military team in the country if not the world, and time after time they failed their missions, got their own men killed, or killed the people they were supposed to be rescuing and then tried to cover it up (A MI6 Agent was killed by a grenade that was thrown and after the commanders asked him wtf would you throw a grenade in a hostage situation and then proceed to lie about it even when they had drone footage of the dumb fuck throwing the grenade). They wore custom made hatchets and fucking skinned people because they thought they were literal apache warriors.

I remember watching a podcast with the SEAL that killed Bin Laden. He said that one of the funny things that happen was when the guy with the dog who was looping around with the sniper to make sure no one escape the compound, thought that they knew and had a training mock up of their "super secret helicopter" in the front yard, not knowing that one of the two stealth Black Hawks carrying the other group actually went down.
The conversation went something like this:
SEAL dude: "Hey guys inside, be on alert. They're definitely ready for us because they have a training mock up of our super secret helicopter in the front yard."
SEAL TL: "No jackass, that's ours because we crashed."

It's also one of the most common languages spoken by the Taliban. Which makes sense, because Hakim as a CIA guys spent a lot of time hunting insurgents and terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But Abottabad as a city doesn't really speak Pashto. The overwhelming majority of people there speak a dialect of Punjabi. Other than that, they would speak either Urdu(the administrative language of Pakistan) or English(which is another language that a loooooot of Pakistanis understand). So it makes sense that they wouldn't understand what was being said until he switched to English.

Two things always struck me strongly about this scene. One: calling Bin Laden "Osama" - I suspect men in his household would have called him "Sheikh". It just sounds wrong to me, but of course I don't know what the soldiers actually said. I just think it would have made him more aware that something was wrong rather than reassuring him. Two: the Pakistani men approaching the soldiers outside the compound - their complete disregard for their personal safety. That has always struck me as very real, having spent some years in India and visited Pakistan: the Indian/Pakistani male's deep conviction that he has a right to do whatever he wants in any situation.

Nah that's just plain curiosity. Same reason people snoop on their neighbours or stop and watch a fight or pull over and just stare at car crashes. Depends on how busy or bored they are. 1. Whispering tactic is real and actually it’s not specific to Navy Seals. There are other forces/units that use it as well.
    2. There were other special tactics that were employed in the raid but military advisors told the director that they are off limits
    3. Maya actually didn’t listen to the raid comms, that part was scripted for the movie.
    4. The room where they were collecting hard drives and docs was real and there was a locked safe. seals briefly discussed blowing it up but decided it was unsafe.

    • @mouthbreather280

They felt absolutely zero adrenaline. These are Naval Special Warfare Development Group assaulters. Also known as ‘SEAL Team 6’. They’ve been in so many gun fights and missions even before joining this Tier 1 Special Missions Unit, that gunfights eventually become normal and like a regular day at the office. Even out of all DEVGRU operators, a select group was specifically assembled to go on this raid. The most experienced and skilled of them. So you’re talking about guys who have lost that rush at this point. In fact it’s a reason a lot of them will retire at some point. It can become dangerous. Your brain no longer releases any adrenaline for life or death situations such as those and operators may feel it’s their time to step away into the next chapter of their lives. Not all of course, but some do partly because of this. You can only do this job out in the field for so long. You at some point need to hang up the hat and move into administrative/leadership stuff or retire. For a multitude of reasons including age, physical injuries and burnout, TBI and operators syndrome. Adrenaline can wear out when you do this stuff day in and day out. These guys HALO jump in the middle of the night into the open ocean from 40,000 feet on a regular basis. There’s nothing that scares these men.

Not so fun fact: When they actually infiltrated Bin Laden's room, he had multiple AK 47's on the wall, chose to grab none of them, and used his wife as a human shield.
Kudos to the marksmanship of these fine soldiers. His kids were incredibly and are incredibly grateful for what America did in ending his reign.
The man who shot Bin Laden had to go through extensive follow up as he was in utter shock and disbelief long after pulling the trigger.
Its not everyday you kill the most hated and wanted person in the whole world. Cant imagine the mental experience he went through after doing that.
They did in fact go there to die. They had no intention of getting out alive. Multiple situations occurred to ruin the whole operation and yet it still succeeded. God wanted them to win that day, and so they did.
America the brave, home of the free. I'm glad I live in and support a country so absolutely willing to die for everyone's freedoms.

Never forget: the war in Afghanistan could’ve ended in 4 months in the mountains of tora bora. Special forces had Bin Laden cornered and were ready to intercept him during his escape attempt into Pakistan. Special forces needed reinforcements. The request was denied for the reason that an increased presence of American troops in the area would “destabilize” and anger the locals. Bin Laden was allowed to flee Afghanistan, which prolonged the conflict resulting in the unnecessary deaths of American troops, Afghan civilians, and Taliban forces who would’ve never been radicalized had we quickly finished the job in 2002.
When we finally killed bin laden in 2011, it was too late. He had already succeeded in his mission to destabilize the US by involving them in an expensive and costly war they wouldn’t win. The same strategy he used to kick the Russians out of Afghanistan in the 80s worked like a charm, as can be seen in Kabul. Our involvement in the Middle East was and is a giant shit show and now we wanna encore in Ukraine? Good luck ladies and gentlemen.
