  • The Bluebelles singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" back in 1964 at the Brooklyn Fox, Brooklyn NY.
    Lyrics:
When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
    There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
For your dreams be tossed and blown
    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart
    And you'll never walk alone
    You'll never ever walk alone
    Walk on, walk on

I saw them do this song in, I think, 1965 in Chicago when they were opening for the Rolling Stones. Patti would have been 17. This was one of the experiences that made me fall in love with R&B music.

Yes, and so should The Marvelettes and even En Vogue. Because they weren't as well known as The Supremes amongst others it may not happen but they need Black Folks on that Panel. Each year they don't choose Chic or even Chaka Khan which is so cruel. I had no idea this was from a Murray The K Show that I saw on PBS this past weekend.

I sat 3 feet away from them at a nightclub (Club Venus) in Baltimore in 1968. It was just Patti, Nonah, and Sarah as Cindy had left a few months before to replace Flo in The Supremes. When they started to sing this song, I was riveted to my seat and was transported to another world. I think that, if there had been an earthquake that destroyed the building, I still would have been unable to move.....it was THAT MESMERIZING.The power in Patti's voice remains unchallenged to this day!

As a person who has studied voice and continues to do so, I believe a lot people don't know how off the charts their voice technique was and how operatic the voices are naturally. If they sang classically and pop they would have owned the game. Patti Labelle is one of the greatest voices of the last century and who knows how far she could have conquered if she was born a little later.

It was a part of my healing. Especially when Patty laid on the floor and began to sing. We were way up in the nosebleed seats. She put down the kicked off her shoes and laid on the floor and sang that song.

You have to kinda laugh with those that have "issues" with her or the group because they keep coming back to watch more and there is SOOO MUCH to watch on RUclips; spending your time watching someone you feel just screams instead of getting pleasure from enjoying those you do feel have real talent shows the sad state of one's life. While they didn't have the best material or producers, they showed the talent within live. That's how they survived all the years with very few hits.

+Al Rector With few exceptions, "Down The Aisle" was one, I never felt that an electronic sound system could contain Pat's voice on a recording. On recordings. Pat's voice always felt confined.........as though it was bouncing back against the walls instead of going out into space. I can remember how the speakers of my portable record player used to rattle whenever I played The Bluebelles back in the 60's. In live performances, especially back in the 60's, Pat's voice would just soar through the air of the hall. I was sitting at a table by the stage in 1968 (about 10 feet away from the group) when they were performing "you'll Never Walk Alone." I am here to tell you that I was riveted to my seat.............I couldn't have moved if a fire had broken out. The power and emotion of that voice is something that I never experienced before or since. You can feel it in this video................in person, multiply it by about 10 and you'll have SOME idea.

I watch this at least three times a week. Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles were in my estimation the best vocal group of the 1960's. Even though the Supremes sold more records, they could never match the incredible and complex harmonies of Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles. No wonder a jealous Diana Ross who toured with the Patti and Bluebelles would antagonize Patti by copying the dresses of the Bluebelles. And just to antagonize Patti even further, Diana Ross even stole Cindy (the middle one) from Patti to replace Florence of the Supremes. That's how jealous Diana was of Patti as Diana could never have reached the vocal power of Patti Labelle.

Diana Ross was never jealous of Patti Labelle just stop the dirt throwing. Diana was more famous, more successful and enjoyed status as an international celebrity, fashion icon, actress, producer international beauty & ambassador for Detroit and was a well respected diva. Diana dated & married better men than Patti & the others. Lady Diana was glamor personified. Sadly, Patti & Aretha were jealous jealous of Diana. Get it right. For all of Patti's talent she ALWAYS played 2nd or 3rd to Diana, Dionne & Aretha. Patti NEVER had the GLAMOR & Sex Appeal that Diana exuded so easily. Patti NEVER enjoyed the musical accolades that flowed, so easily to Aretha. Patti never achieved & NEVER attained the crossover success of Dionne & Diana or Aretha. Dionne Warwick was class & elegance but Diana was more successful than all of them. She trailblazed. Idiot I doubt you know anything about that generation. Some of us lived through it.

As a super fan of Aretha who is my favorite singer of all time, I can understand why Aretha refused to follow Patti and the Bluebelles on stage to perform. It has been said by performers who did shows/tours together with the Motown group and other performers that Aretha always insisted that she perform in front of Patti and the Bluebelles. I can see/hear why!

Sadly we lost Sarah Dash. 21 September 2021...Sarah Dash, the legendary singer best known as the cofounder of the all-female trio Labelle, died Monday at the age of 76. Her death was confirmed by singer and fellow bandmate Patti LaBelle, who posted a statement on social media following news of Dash's death.
"We were just onstage together on Saturday and it was such a powerful and special moment!" Labelle wrote on Twitter and on Instagram, where she shared a video of Dash performing. "Sarah Dash was an awesomely talented, beautiful and loving soul who blessed my life and the lives of so many others in more ways than I can say. And I could always count on her to have my back! That's who Sarah was ... a loyal friend and a voice for those who didn't have one."
"Rest in power my dear sister," LaBelle concluded. "I love you always!"
Bandmate Nona Hendryx, who rounded out the singing group with Dash and LaBelle, also posted a tribute on Instagram and shared that she'd spoken to her friend only days before she died.

Sarah Dash was the cofounder of the all female quartette, Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles a vocal group which, many years later, evolved into the trio Labelle with 3 original members minus Cindy Birdsong. I know that now days, many people like to refer to vocal groups as bands. When the term band is used, someone who is not familiar with the group may think they play instruments and/ or sing. As you can see in the video, this was a vocal group. It’s not that “band” is the wrong term term to use as it can technically mean vocal group or a group that plays instruments or or does other. I like to distinguish between both. Old man with old habits.

@@drummerc1795 Probably a lot older than you. (2 years younger than Patti) ;-) "Bandmate" is how the writer of the information wrote it....and "voice" was their instrument.....but I actually agree with you.

    • @drummerc1795

@@USNAVDC and certainly no disrespect was meant to you. It’s just one of my old man hang ups that I can’t get used to and I I always wonder if those groups feel the same way about being called bands. Thank you for you’re reply. I needed to be reminded that a singers voice is in fact considered an instrument. Stay well fellow senior.

I was there for every Murray the K show and everytime they performed they got a standing ovation. Imagine every major motown act; Dionne Warwick;Little Anthony; Jay and the Americans; British Invasion acts gathered in one show for $4 and a free album.

    • @drummerc1795
      @drummerc1795 2 года назад

I was at almost all of his shows as well. If I remember correctly, there were numerous shows everyday and they had to show a movie before each show to give the acts a chance to rest. It was amazing to see so many top acts in one show for that price but I guess that wasn’t as big a deal as it sounds now days. Bet most of those acts did not want to have to go on after P. Labelle and the Bluebelles.

    Y soplado
    Camina, camina
    Con esperanza, en tu corazón
    Y nunca caminarás solo
    Nunca caminarás solo
    Solo
    Camina, camina
    Con esperanza en vuestros corazones
    Nunca caminarás, solo
